Soap Heaven now has a mailing list (listserv)...
...for chat about soaps, stars, and whatever else comes to mind! Also, through the list, we will let you know when the site is updated.
You can join the mailing list and join in on the fun very easily. All you must do is fill in your email address into the form below, and it will automatically put you on the list.
Now, to keep things running smoothly, we do have a few rules, well not exactly rules but guidlines.
- Lurk before you post.
- Lurking means "reading without posting" and is something that everyone should do when entering a new electronic form. Hang out and get the feel for what people are saying and what is appropriate and inappropriate. Get the sense of
space before joining in. You will find that you are warmly welcomed when you finally join in the conversation having a clue as to what is going on.
- Check your ego and pride at the door before you post. (aka: Don't take flame bait)
- Checking your ego at the door is crucial. In a faceless medium, intent can be lost and often people will get upset and inflamatory when, in reality, the original post was far more benign. Take it easy and never assume malice where ignorance
can suffice. Be cordial, understanding and helpful. If you feel the need to flame someone, delete their message and then go take a walk. You'll feel better and you won't contribute anything to the list's purpose of destroying the list's purpose of discussing the soaps and "whatever".
And if you do get so riled up that you do have to flame someone, do it privately.
- Don't send files to the list.
- Many of us are still using slow modems, and with the size of some files these days, we don't want them coming down our cables! So, instead, you could tell us that you have this file, and if we really do want it, we will email you.
- Edit your quotations. If a long signature annoys people, imagine what forty lines of useless quotations from another person's post is going to do to them.
This means that you shouldn't quote an entire person's post to reply to a single statement.
Use appropriate quotations. Saying, "That's great! Please send that file to me!" means nothing to the person you're speaking to if they don't know what file you're referring to. It *is* possible to cut out too much from a quote.
- Do not send forwarded mail to the list unless it is relevant to the discussion. Do not send the Craig Shergold send-him-a-card letter as the whole affair ended with no brain tumour, a world record, and a lot of dead trees all for naught. Do not send the $250 recipe, someone actually tried it out, and it tasted like cardboard.
Do not send the "Good Times" virus letter as that virus warning was a hoax. Do not send send chain letters as these are illegal on many boards. This includes "good cause" chain letters (like petitions, sociology projects, warnings about new viri or other maladies, etc.) There are appropriate places for people to monitor the current
alerts and so forth and this is not one of them. If it isn't appropriate, it doesn't belong here no matter how good the cause. Really.
As I said, to subscribe, fill in the form below. But if you ever wish to unsubscribe, do the following.
