It seems that Brookside is the favourite soap of the year and why not? During 1997 it tackled surrogacy , euthanasia , protection rackets , adoption , divorce , custody , breaking bail , dodgy businessmen , fires , death of children , nervous breadowns , army training , bullying , suicide , pregnancy and it took one soap step forward by releasing an 18 certificate video! Wow! Well done Brookie - you are one hell of a soap
