U.S.S. Saratoga SCVN

The U.S.S.
Saratoga was first commissioned by the United States Government
on August 26, 2059 to be used as a defensive vessel. At that time
the AI wars had been long over and most conflicts in the had been
settled through peacefull means. The primary purpose for the
fleet at that time was for protection against future threats,
especially from the rogue AI warriors still at large in the
galaxy.

In 2063 the
Saratoga and Earth fell under a new threat, interstellar war with
the Chigs. The Saratoga and the other 12 Kennedy Class ships in
the fleet rose to the task and were instrumental in bringing and
end to the war.

The
Saratoga had a crew complement of one-thousand seventy- six
officers and four-thousand eight-hundred enlisted personel. Her
duty was to house and carry hammerhead fighters and Marine
troops, the primary forms of offense during the war. The marine
troops on board were trained to fly these fighters in to battle
and were also trained for ground engagements.

In the end
the Saratoga survived twenty-seven major conflicts with the chigs
(including the battle of Signate 138) and one of her squadrons,
the famous 58th (also known as the Wildcards), was instrumental
in bringing an end to the long and bloody war.

On June
16th, 2066 the Saratoga with Commodore Ross in charge fell in the
battle of Pluto. The Saratoga and her compliment of fighters and
crew was able to hold off the Chig fleet as they made a final
assault on the Sol system. For fifteen minutes the Saratoga stood
alone until Earth Fleet with the USS Kenedy in the lead could
arrive and assist. This was the last battle of the war. With the
Chig's resources depleted they sued for peace on June 22, 2066.
Never in
human history has so few been able to hold off so much in order
to buy the precious moments needed for survival and victory.

The ruins
of the Saratoga now lie on the planet of Pluto, a cold grave for
a valliant ship.
