---------------

Sitting in front of the big screen TV downstairs in his mansion,
Jonny Quest quietly snacked on some popcorn.

Some weird show was on the Discovery Channel; something about the
feeding habits of jackals. Jonny never knew that jackals didn't actually
kill the animals, they just scavenged off of the ones that others killed.

It really wasn't that interesting, but there was nothing else on.
Not even on the Sci-Fi channel.

He adjusted his position in his banana chair, making sure not to
fall off. That would be embarrassing. He twisted his legs around, moving
the bowl of popcorn steadily with his hands, when he felt something hard and
pointy under his thigh. As he put more weight on it, it began to hurt.

Jonny quickly stood and turned, nearly dropping the bowl (which
would be a disaster; it was glass), and saw what it was.

It was a book, embroidered with lavender and white flowers on the
cover. The background was an ugly pinkish tint, but the name on it was what
interested him most: Diary.

No one else in the house would keep a pink and purple diary besides
Jessie. He almost laughed at the thought of it being Race's.

Jonny set down his bowl on the floor, and picked up the book off of
the chair. Funny, he didn't feel guilty at all. He actually felt as if he
should know what was in it, and resented Jessie from keeping it secret!

The first page was set on December 26th, 1990.

"Dear Diary,

This is my first diary ever! I got it for Christmas from Daddy.
This is my first Christmas away from Mommy. Mommy and Daddy don't like each
other anymore. I don't know why. So now I live away from Mommy and
Kolumbeea.

Daddy says that this will help me rekord my thoughts. I don't know
what that's supposed to mean. I guess"

The rest of the page was warped by a spilt glass of juice. Jonny
couldn't make out anymore words.

He flipped through to find that at least five years was missing. It
went straight to recent; the last entry was two nights ago.

        "Dear Diary,

Jonny makes me so mad sometimes. I can't believe what he said about
my cooking! It does NOT make people sick; I was ten years old when I cooked
that one, and Dad was only in the hospital for two days!"

Jonny began laughing, and read on:

"Sometimes I wish he'd just KEEP his trap shut...but not just
sometimes. ALL THE TIME. He has a comment about this, or a remark about
that, and makes VERY bad jokes!"

Startled, he thought about closing the book. But his mind pressed on:

"I bet he's even READING this! He probably thinks its HIS business
to know about my private life! I hope I catch him; maybe I'll be right at
the stairs when he looks at this!"

Gulping, Jonny closed the book, and looked at the stairs.

There Jessie stood, with eyes glowing as brightly and deadly as a
cobra. He backed up, tripping over the banana chair and landing on his rear
with his hand landing in the bowl of popcorn.

On the TV screen, a jackal howled in triumph.

Jessie stomped over to him, grabbed the book, and whacked him over
the side of the head. His ears began ringing as his face turned ruby red in
the shape of the book.

"What was THAT for???!!!" he managed to screech.

Jessie was audibly disgusted and whacked him on the other ear.

"GET UP," Jessie said between her teeth.

Rubbing his cheeks, Jonny obeyed. His hand was wet from the
buttery popcorn, both his ears hurt, and his rear was sore as heck.

        "Go upstairs," she commanded.

She followed him strictly up the stairs, occasionally whapping him
in the back for going too slow. They reached the doorway, and Jessie
commanded, "Go outside."

"But Jess, its too cold and snowy, and I don't have shoes on!!!"

Her expression glowered, and reached a point of her famous Death
Glare. Jonny knew not to mess with her.

Obediently, he opened the door and walked outside. Jessie quickly
shut it and locked it. She laughed evilly, her voice echoing through the halls.

-------------------

Man, it looked much warmer from inside than it felt outside!

He sat on the front porch steps, shivering all over. The cement
steps were wet, muddy, and extremely cold. It hurt to put his hand on it
for too long a time. His rear was especially cold, almost to the point of
numbness. Jonny shoved his hands in his shirt, hugging himself to keep warm.

He heard a knock on the window.

Jessie grinned from inside, and held up something.

His black, fur coat. She put it on, and started waving at herself
as if to cool herself down. She stuck her tongue out and panted like a dog.
Jonny glared at her, then turned.

Jessie knocked again, and blew her breath on the window, creating a
foggy circle. She wrote on it, and Jonny had to stare a moment to read what
it said, because it was backwards.

        "Say you're sorrrrrryyyyy!"

Jonny knew better than that, his ego telling him to be a man, and
stay out in the cold until Jessie felt sorry for him.

----------

"Eight-hundred dollars, NOT five thousand!!! YOU IDIOT!!!!" Jessie
screamed at the TV. She sat, in a lovely banana chair, eating Jonny's
popcorn, watching The Price is Right. "A CHAIR AND TABLE SET IS EIGHT
HUNDRED!!!!!!!!!"

        "Jessie, what ARE you doing?"

Hadji's quizzical voice called down the stairs.

"Yelling at this idiot...!" Jessie said, more to herself than to the
boy standing at the foot of the stairs.

"Where is Jonny?" he asked, disregarding her comment.

        "Outside."

        "Doing what?"

        She grinned. "Apologizing."
