Hiya, guys, it's Michelle (formerly JQuestGirl). Well, recently my
AOL account overloaded my computer, and my dad went totally postal. So, I am
off the list =(. I just wanted to say good bye, and to end with a fic. And
though I may be off the list, you haven't heard the last from me!! I will
continue to send my fics through the list, and anyone who wants to comment on
them can send mail to my new address -- Blondyzgrl@aol.com
I would appreciate it if anyone who is writing a fic will send it to
me privately ( if it's not too much of a hassle. If it is, that's ok). I
really enjoy reading ALL of them. Well, on that note, here's part one of my
latest fic, called "Masquerades". I hope you enjoy it and that I continue to
recieve fanfiction from you. I'll miss you guys!!

and now, on with the show.........
"Masquerade" Part1, by Michelle Stanton
A pretty red head stepped off the lunch line and looked around for
her best friend. As usual, the cafeteria was jam packed with kids yelling and
joking. In one corner, she spotted her freind Cristina joking with some guy,
and in another, BJ and Ryan were trying to initiate a food fight. *Jonny had
better saved a seat for me* she thought as she scanned the large, tiled
cafeteria.
"Hey Jess! Over here!" A blond boy was waving frantically to her from
the other side of the cafeteria. Smiling, Jessie pushed her way over to him.
He shoved down to make room for her as she approached.
"You're lucky, Quest," she said. "For a second there, I thought we
weren't gonna have a seat."
"C'mon Jess, you know this is our table." He took a large bite out of
his chicked patty. Jessie grimaced at his appetite for cafeteria food and
poked at her own salad.
"Say, Jonny, have you seen Michelle?" she asked him.
"No," he answered with his mouth full, "'aven't 'een 'er." Jessie
stuck her tongue out.
"Very charming." he shrugged and took another huge bite. Jessie was
lifting her fork to her mouth when Jonny jumped up beside her, almost knocking
her plate off the table.
"'Ey, Todd! Ower 'ere!"
"Would you please not talk with your mouth full," Jessie asked before
waving to Todd. She whapped Jonny on the back of the head as he sat down.
"Ow! Ut uz at or?" Jessie rolled her eyes and scooted over so that
Todd could sit down. From a distance, the tall blond boy who sat down next to
Jessie could have been Jonny's brother. But up close, the differences were
innumerable. For starters, Todd was much taller than Jonny, with blue eyes
that were almost gray. His hair wasn't naturally blond, but bleached, and his
true brown hair was almost totally grown in. His face was very handsome, but
in a different way than Jonny's little boy cuteness. Todd had a more grown up
look. And opposed to Jonny's springy step, Todd walked with his head down and
his hands in his pockets, almost embarrassed about his height and good looks.
And whereas most of the time you couldn't shut Jonny up, Todd was very shy and
quiet, and often needed prodding to speak up. Except when he was with them.
And Michelle of course. Speaking of which.....
"Hey Todd, do you know where Michelle is?" Todd frowned
thoughtfully.
"No. I haven't seen her since this morning." Jessie smiled. Todd had
a very deep voice.
" 'Ey, aybe --" Jonny started, but thought the better of it when
Jessie flashed him a menacing look.
" Hey, guys!" Michelle came jogging up to the table just then and sat
down across from Todd. She leaned over the table and kissed him.
"Where were you?" Jessie asked. "I've been looking for you all
morning." Michelle broke away from Todd and looked at Jessie.
"Sorry. Dentist appointment." She reached over and grabbed a fry from Jonny's
tray. Jonny opened his mouth to say something, but shut it after a moments
hesitation.
"What's his problem?" Michelle asked, gesturing towards Jonny with the french
fry. Jessie shrugged innocently and smiled. "Oh, Jessie, you gotta come see
what I've got for you. You're gonna love it!"
"Where is it?" Jessie asked curiously.
"In my locker. Let's go!" She stood up and kissed Todd again. Jonny started
to protest as Jessie got up to leave.
"Aren't ou ungry?"
"What?" Michelle asked in confusion. Jessie rolled her eyes.
"Don't listen to him." She grabbed Michelle's arm and dragged her off.
"Wait!" Todd called after the girls. " We have practice today."
"Okay, we'll see you guys then." Michelle waved to Todd and Jonny and then
ran to catch up with Jessie. Jonny watched them go.
"I on't ow y ose irls on't eat eir unch." Todd laughed, then turned to look
in the direction the girls had gone.
*****
"Jonny's so gross sometimes," Michelle said absently as she twirled the
combination on her locker.
"Yeah, well, he's Jonny. What do you expect?" Michelle laughed and yanked
open her locker. Jessie could hear her muffled voice as Michelle rifled
through the mess.
"But don't try and tell me that you don't love him anyway." With a grunt,
Michelle yanked a bag out of her locker. "Here it is," she said, handing it to
Jessie.
"What is it?"
"Just look." Jessie opened the bag and gasped.
"Omigod!" She pulled out a floor length silk emerald dress. "It's beautiful!"
Michelle smiled and reached into the bag.
"Look! It has gloves and a cape, too!" Jessie smiled.
"How can I ever repay you?" Michelle waved her hand dismissively in the air.
"Don't bother. My mom hates how green looks on her anyway. She was more than
happy to let you wear it. I think she likes you more than me." Jessie laughed.
"Anyway, now you have an awesome costume, courtesy of moi, and it goes
terrific with your mask."
"This is gonna be THE greatest party. What are you wearing?" Jessie asked,
placing the dress back into the bag.
"You'll see," Michelle answered mischieviously. She slammed her locker and
smiled. "It's a masquerade, remember? You're not to supposed to know who
anyone is." Jessie smiled.
"How could I forget? It's all anyone's talked about for weeks!" Riley Quinn,
the school's self-proclaimed party animal, was throwing a huge bash at his
parents huge beach house. Since summer was over, and the house wasn't in use,
they had let him use it for his party. But it wasn't just any party. It was a
huge masquerade ball. Everyone had to come in costume, or fancy dress wear,
complete with mask and alias for the night. Riley didn't want anybody to know
who anyone else was until midnight, when everyone unmasked. And that meant NO
carpools, NO lending of costumes (a rule which Michelle had just broken,
though her philosophy was that the rules were meant to be broken), and
absolutely NO dates. The entire junior class had been anticipating it for
weeks. Now, it was finally tonight and everyone was putting the final touches
on their costumes.
"I wonder what Jonny's wearing," Jessie thought out loud as the two girls
headed down the hall. Michelle snorted. "What?!" Jessie protested.
"C'mon Jess, the guy is just plain old stupid -- no matter how you look at
it."
Jessie sighed.
"You're right, you know."
"I know I'm right! You have been dropping little hints EVERYWHERE and he
STILL hasn't gotten the message!"
"I can't believe him," Jessie complained. "I mean, I did everything you said
and he hasn't even noticed! The kid is so oblivious!" Michelle smiled at
Jessie.
"Don't worry. I'm not out of ideas yet." She laced her fingers and cracked
her knuckles. "Michelle The Match-Making Goddess is just getting started."
Jessie laughed and they continued down the hall, talking about Riley's party.
*****
"So what's up with you and Jessie?"
"I don't know,"Jonny answered, attempting unsuccessfully to swipe the ball
from Todd.
"You don't know? What kind of answer is that?"
"Well, if I remember right, it wasn't so long ago that I heards the same
thing from you about Michelle." Todd smiled his lopsided smile.
"Yeah, but look where we are now." Then he faked to the right, breezed by
Jonny, and tossed the ball effortlessly into the basket.
"Let's take a break," Jonny suggested, running his hand through his hair. The
sweat make it stick up in spikes. They walked over to join Dave and BJ on the
bench.
"Yo! What's up?" BJ and Jonny slapped five. "Nice basket, Todd." Todd just
smiled, turning a little red, and sat down.
"So you guys are going to Riley's party, right?" Dave asked.
"You bet!" Jonny exclaimed, draping a towel over his head. "It's gonna be
slammin'!" BJ smiled.
" Yeah, but there is one problem -- you can't know who anyone is and you know
what that means -- no dates." He elbowed Todd. "And no girlfriend." Todd
blushed.
Dave laughed. "You can pick up any girl you want, cause no one's gonna know
who anyone is!"
"That'll come especially in handy for you," BJ joked.
"Hahaha aren't you just the comedian today." Dave shoved BJ off the bench.
None of them noticed as Michelle and Jessie entered the gym and took a seat in
the front of the bleachers.
"C'mon!" Michelle yelled down after a few minutes. "We came to see some
basketball, not to watch you guys sit around and BS!"
"Well, excuuussse us!" BJ said, jumping up. He twirled the ball on his
finger. "How 'bout two on two?" Todd and Jonny looked at each other.
"Sure." For the next half hour, the girls watched Todd and Jonny dribble
circles around Dave and BJ. But they wouldn't give up without a fight.
"Rematch!!" Dave yelled as Todd and Jonny headed towards Michelle and Jessie.
"Sorry, guys, we gotta go get ready for the party. You know how it is," Jonny
added with a smile.
"Yeah, some excuse! You just don't wanna lose!" Todd laughed as Michelle ran
up to him.
"You guys were awesome!" She wrapped her arms around him, not caring that he
was all sweaty.
"Okay, break it up you two." Jonny grabbed Todd's arm and dragged him off.
"We gotta get changed. We'll meet you in the parking lot." Jessie smiled as
they left.
"Why didn't you say something to him?" Michelle asked Jessie after the boys
were out of earshot. "You could have told him that he played really good.
Which he did, by the way. In fact, that was the best I've ever seen Jonny
play."
"What? And boost his ego even more? Yeah, right. Besides, he wouldn't be that
good if Todd wasn't there to help him out." Michelle shrugged, then brightened
suddenly.
"Guess what -- Todd said I could drive his car!"
"No way!" Jessie cried. "He gave you the keys?!'
"Yep," Michelle said, dangling them in front of Jessie's face.
"What's this?" Jessie asked, examing the keychain. "'I love Michelle'. Awww,
how cute." Michelle blushed. "Why can't Jonny be like that?"
"Well, not everyone is perfect," Michelle joked. Jessie sighed dramatically.
"No, I guess not." Then she smiled. "C'mon, let's go. I wanna beat the boys
to the car."
