Well, here is chapter three... I hope you are enjoying this one
because I'm having so much fun writing it!
BTW, tomorrow is Mexico's Independence Day. That's why the computing
lab in my school will remain closed. In other words, I won't be able
to access the ML until wednesay morning :( I promise to have at least
one new chapter of Reality...
OK, I'll stop babbling now. Here is the next chapter.
Disclaimer: I don't own all of these characters! HB owns Jonny
and the rest of the cast from JQ:TRA. I'm not
making any money at all with this, but I'm having
fun!
Rating: E, a little passive HR
Sinopsis: A look at what might have been?
Archivers: Go ahead!
In our last chapter, we witnessed the ending of a special day for
the Bannon family:
They fell asleep on the sofa with the album still in Jessie's
lap, opened in one of the last pages. And that night, Jessie dreamed
again with the misterious blue eyed boy...
And now:

* Chapter Three *

*********************************
He was scared. Really scared. But he had to be strong. After
all, she was a survivor. She had saved his life several times. Yet,
his heart shrank when he reached the smoke column. Could it be the
plane? Then the ground broke, pieces of ice scattering anywhere...
and from the middle of the smoke, a bright balloon. "Grab the ropes!"
someone yelled. He noticed two figures, one of them with a familiar
red hair... It was her! Like the sun after the storm, a light of
hope finally had broken trough the darkness. Yes, it was her, and
she looked fine. He ran to her. He said something to her and then he
hugged her tightly. He wanted to held her close and not let her go
again...
And then he woke up.
He was in his room, still dressed in his clothes. He glanced
at the clock. Ten o'clock. As he got dressed, he tought about his
dreams. He had dreamed all night long and the red haired girl had
appeared again and again and again...
Who was she?
While he walked trough the hallway when someone greeted
him. "Good morning, my friend. Did you sleep well?"
He didn't need to turn around to know who had spoken. He
was Hadji Singh, his father's assistant and Jonny's brother. He was an
orphan who had saved Rachel Quest's life once in Calcutta, and Benton
and Rachel had decided to adopt him.
He was always cool and quiet, making him somewhat hard to
read... when he wanted to. Right now there was a small tone in his
voice that made clear to Jonny that his mother had already briefed him
about what had heppened last night.
He turned around to face his dark skinned brother, who was
standing in the doorway to his room wearing a small smile on his
face.
"Yes, I did, Hadj, thank you." he replied with a similar
smile on his own face. "Hey, I'm going to Fred's house to finish the
physics project. Do you want to come with me?"
"I would be glad to help you, Jonny, but I promised Dr. Quest
that I would finish the database we are working on for Quest Enterprises
before he came back. I am afraid I won't be able to finish on time
unless I work all day long on it."
"Oh, OK. I'll help you when I come back, OK?"
Hadji smiled before closing the door to his room. "Sure. If
you come back before two in the morning this time."
"Good morning!"
The words were followed by a yellow blur and a hug in Jonny's
right leg. 'How come she is awake?' Jonny wondered, amazing himself at
his little sister's energy. "Hiya, squid."
A couple of barks reminded Jonny that Bandit was there as well.
The small bulldog had been a gift from his father to him, but now
he seemed more attached to Jenny than to Jonny. It didn't surprise
Jonny at all since Jennifer had certain natural charm.
Jonny crouched and petted the dog in the head. "Good morning to
you too, pal. By the way, Jenny, where's mother?"
"Right here" a voice said from the kitchen. "Do you want
something for breakfast?"
"Only cereal mom, thank you." he said as he walked into
the room and grabbed some milk from the fridge. "I'm already late."
"Really? For what?" Rachel asked as she handed Jonny a bowl
and a box of Sugar Bombs.
"Fred and I are going to work on the physics project." He
emptied the box into his bowl and poured some milk. "I don't think it
will take us much time."
The bowl was almost empty when the phone ringed. Rachel
quickly answered it and for the tone in her voice Jonny alredy knew
who was the man at the other side of the line.
"Jonny, your father!" she told him, confirming Jonny's
suspicions. Jonny quickly got up and picked the phone at the living
room as Rachel stayed in the kitchen.
"Dad?" Jonny asked as he picked up the receiver.
"Hello, Jonny! How are you, son?"
"I'm fine, Dad! What can you tell me of Greece?"
"Pretty boring!" he said with a chuckle. "These conventions
get less interesting with every year. Anyway, it will end tomorrow and
you'll have me around there monday morning."
"I'm glad to hear that!"
"And what can you tell me about Jennifer?"
"Hyperactive, as always." Rachel replied from the kitchen.
"She fell asleep this morning at four and she's already awake."
"She reminds me of someone." Benton said with a little
hint of amusement in his voice. Jonny chuckled, remembering all
those stories Grandpa Doug had told him about Rachel when she
was a small girl.
Rachel giggled as well. "Next time we visit my father, I
won't let him speak at all!"
A small hand tapped Jonny's shoulder. "Is that father?"
Jenny asked him. Jonny nodded. "Jenny's here, dad. I'll give
the phone to her, right now I gotta run. See you this monday!"
"Alright, son."
Jonny hand hed her sister the receiver, grabbed the keys
of the car from the table and bolted trough the door.
He had just turned on the car when he remembered something. He
slapped himself in the forehead. "My physics notes!"
Muttering some curses to himself, he walked back to his room,
noticing that both his mother and his sister were still talking to his
father.
He walked toward his room past his sister's bedroom. He
had walked the hallway a thousand times before, but this time he stopped
in front of the door of Jenny's bedroom, which she had left open.
He had catched something with the corner of his eye.
It was his sister's collection of stuffed animals. Her most
beloved possesion, Taffy the squirrel, was on a small table beside
her bed. His bright red shirt had catched Jonny's attention, but it
was something else that kept Jonny's brain busy.
Something was wrong. He didn't knew what, but something wasn't
as it should be.
He shrugged. 'To much stress, that's all' he said to himself.
He promised himself he would relax after finishing his physics project.
"Jonny? Hello, are you there?"
Fred's question popped the small bubble in Jonny's toughts.
"Sorry, I was daydreaming." he apologized.
"Man, you really have it, don't you?"
"Uh? Have what?"
"You know... _Liz_..."
Oh. That.
Actually, Fred was far from the truth. While Jonny was working
on some numbers, he had started to think about his dreams last night.
And then his mind has gone trough the scene at Jenny's bedroom. He
had realized that both things were related, but he couldn't tell how
he had realized it or what that relationship was.
The whole thing was driving himself nuts. He had one of the
prettiest girlfriends on the world and all he could think was about
a red haired girl and... a stuffed animal?
He sighed. Perhaps Fred could make something out of it.
"Actually, pal, I wasn't thinking about Liz. I was thinking
about a girl in my dreams."
"What? What girl?"
He told him about the dreams he had been having lately,
about the red haired girl that popped in all of them. There were two
dreams he experienced almost everynight. One dream had to do with ice,
the other was related with a foggy night in what Jonny believed was an
island. While those were the most frequent, there were small flashes
of other locations and other scenes. But he couldn't remember the
details of any dream. The memories of the actions that had taken place
in those dreams vanished as soon as he opened his eyes, leaving behind
a confused Jonny Quest.
He had tried hard to remember the details, to create a coherent
story using the small fragments that he remembered. He wanted to find
out what was happening on those dreams and why she was always there.
But he hadn't been successful. The only clear thing that he could
remember was that beautiful girl with clear green eyes and hair like
solid fire.
"You are a real case, Quest." Fred commented when he finished
with a slight grin. "You should be dreaming about Liz by now."
Jonny smiled. "My thoughts exactly. Do you think my
subsconcient is trying to tell me something?"
"Yeah. It says that you have watched too many movies with
redheads on them."
He chuckled a little. "You are impossible."
"Hey, trust me, Quest-man. I assure you that if you give it
time, there won't be more dreams like that. I guarantee it. Now,
let's check those results again. I don't want your little dream to
affect my grade!"
It had taken a little longer of what he had expected, but
they had finished at last. When he returned home he went straight into
his room. Before helping Hadji, he had a call to do.
"Hi, handsome! I was getting afraid you wouldn't call me at
all."
"No such luck, Liz." he replied as he leaned back in his bed.
"I was wondering if you would like to go out tonight."
"You don't even have to ask."
"I thougth you would have to ask your parents."
"They will give me permission as long as we come back before
twelve o'clock."
"Oh? And how would yo know that?"
"Because I told them... about us."
Jonny sit up on the bed. "What!?!?!?! So soon?"
"Actually the topic came up during breakfast... They told me
they had known it all along even before we knew about it..."
Wow. Knowing the temper of Elizabeth's father, Jonny had
expected a different outcome. Now that this little problem of his
relationship with Liz was covered, he felt much better.
He leaned back into his bed again. "Man, I'm so relieved." he
confessed after Liz finished her narration about this morning's events.
"Me too. By the way, they want you to come to dinner one of
these days."
Jonny gulped.
"Like me, in your house and with your parents?"
"Yeah."
He sighed. He would have to do it sooner or later, so... "OK,
I'll go tonight."
"Really? Oh, mom is going to be so happy!"
A few more minutes passed by before Jonny hanged the phone. He
stood up, hoping he had a good shirt for tonight.
He opeed his closet and started to go trough the shirts. The
black one looked good. Should he wear a tie? Or would it be pushing it
too much?
He decided to give it a try. He took a bunch of ties and placed
himself in front of the mirror. He started to try on the ties. Too
bright. Too serious. Too informal. When had his mother bought him this
one? And this one was too psychodelic... And this one looked like it
was made from Tommy's fur!
He froze.
His eye catched the form of the small puffed tiger's reflection
on the mirror. Instantly, he knew what had been wrong in his sister's
bedroom.
He grabbed Toomy and ran to Jenny's bedroom. He grabbed Taffy
and placed him in his sister's bed, and soon Tommy had taken the
squirrel's place. Jonny took a few steps back and watched the scene.
God, it looked so familiar...
Jonny started to push the furniture in his sister bedroom
around. The bed used to be a little to the right and the books should
have been there and the desk was closer to the window...
Had Jonny been thinking on those moments, he would have thanked
god that Rachel and Jenny had gone shopping. Otherwise, he would have
had a hard time explaining to his sister what was he doing.
When he finished, he stood in the center of the room, looking
around. It still looked strange because not all the things were here
and because the walls had a different color, but he recognized the room.
He had been here before. Not in his sister's bedroom, but in _her_
bedroom.
In the bedroom of the red-haired girl that appeared in his
dreams.
'I must be insane!' he thought. Yet he didn't believe so.
It all looked right, as if this was the way the room should be.
He sat on the bed and grabbed Tommy again. 'It doesn't make
sense. This room has been Jenny's as long as I remember. Why should this
be Jessie's room?'
And then, for the second time in less than an hour, Jonny Quest
froze.
He could remember the name.
"Jessie" he whispered in a low voice. "Jessie Bannon."
To be continued!
Special thanks to Winnie for letting me use Tommy in this fic!
