Every Thorn Has It's Rose 2/?
"C'mon, Jess, you never go out. It'll be good for you."
She continued to shake her head, "Dominic would have a fit."
"Who cares what that jerk thinks; he's not your master you know. You
don't have to listen to what he says," Vachon's hate for Dominic was
quite blatant.
She let out an exasperated sigh, her friend didn't know why she felt she
had to stay with LeSabre; and she didn't intend to tell him any time
soon, either, "I really can't, Javier..."
"Why not?" he asked, looking at her expectantly.
"I..."
Having been unable to think up a plausible excuse, Jessie found herself
half an hour later coming down the huge grand staircase in the foyer
dressed and ready to go.
Vachon smiled at her, noting her black leather dress that made her look
even paler than she actually was and accentuated her fiery hair and
emerald eyes, "I'm telling you, this is just what you need."
"And I'm telling you," she said sweetly, "if that...woman says one word
to me, I'll kill her with my bare hands."
"Fangs are easier. Messier, but definitely easier," Vachon said
absently as they headed for the door. "Why don't you like her anyway?"
"She's a bitch," Jessie threw back over her shoulder. She didn't see
his smirk.
Jessie, despite all of her efforts to convince Vachon otherwise, was
enjoying herself. The club wasn't crowded, only about twenty humans
dancing and drinking and a few vampires lingering at the bar. She sat
at the bar watching Vachon and Urs dancing. She smiled at the humorous
'why me?' look he shot her as another song started and Urs still refused
to let him leave the dance floor. The music was far from the usual
Raven tunes...it actually had words, and they were even understandable.
And best of all...she hadn't even *seen* Janette.
She accepted the drink that the vampire bar tender offered her and
sipped at it while she listened to the music and her mind wandered. She
didn't notice that someone had sat down next to her until they said her
name. She turned to see who it was and was shocked to see the familiar
ink black hair, dark blue eyes and contagious grin of her husbands best
friend. "Ryan!? What are you doing here?"
"I could ask you the same thing," he didn't take his eyes off of her,
seemingly studying her features closely. He frowned, "What *are* you
doing here?"
"I live here."
"In the club?" he asked teasingly.
"No, in Toronto."
"You still with that loser LeSabre?"
Jessie nodded, averting her eyes from his gaze.
"Jonny misses you," Ryan said quietly.
"Is he really here?"
"Yeah, he and Mysti and I have been here for about a week. How did you
know?"
"One of my friends said he saw Jonny here last night. I didn't believe
him; or maybe I did and I just didn't want to, I don't know," she
exhaled heavily. "You can't tell him I'm here," she said quietly.
Ryan's unmasked look of confusion prompted her to explain, "Dominic
would kill him if he even *thought* he was looking for me. And you know
that's exactly what he'd think. I don't want anything to happen to
Jonny."
"You still love him...don't you?"
Jessie looked hurt and shocked, "I've always loved him! And I always
will. But..." she swallowed the lump in her throat, "I had to leave,
Ryan, I didn't have any choice."
He wanted to argue, to tell her that she had had a choice, but he didn't
want to make her feel any guiltier than she already did, so he just
nodded.
"Thank you," her voice was a near whisper.
"You know if there's ever anything you need..."
"I'll find you, I promise."
He stood and kissed her on the forehead, "Take care, Jessie."
"I will."
She watched him walk to the other end of the bar.
"Who was that?"
Jessica turned to see Vachon's quizical expression, "A friend."
"Fine, be cryptic, see if I care," his look of mock hurt made her smile.
"I will."
Javier smiled, "Wanna dance?"
"I thought you didn't like to dance."
"Nah, I just didn't wanna dance with Urs," he held out his hand and she
took it, following him to the dance floor. Jessie ignored the annoyed
looks she knew she was getting from Ryan.
When Jessie returned close to dawn, she found Dominic sitting in the
large leather chair that sat in her room, "Can I help you?" she asked.
"Where were you?"
"Out," she replied, deliberately goading him, though she didn't know
why. She kicked off her shoes, then turned and lifted her hair.
Dominic reached up and unzipped her dress. She slid the straps off and
let the garment fall to the floor. Dominic's eyes roamed down her slim
figure as she slid her nylons off. She grabbed her nightgown and pulled
it over her head. The dark green silk suited her perfectly, Dominic
thought silently. In the last forty years she'd grown accustomed to
him, but had never allowed him to touch her in any intimate way. His
eyes glowed gold at the sight of her, but it didn't faze her in the
least.
"Get out."
He raised a dark eyebrow and stayed seated.
"I'm going to bed, please leave," she demanded.
Dominic smiled slightly as he got up and strolled at a leisurely pace
from her room.
Jessie sighed as she shut the door on her retreating companion before
drawing the heavy draperies and getting into bed.
Ta-da! Let me know whether it's any good or not, K? I'll get the next
part out when I get the chance! :)
Always
