Torn
Part 4
By: Babe
Jessie's fingures flew across the keyboard hacking into the world's most
top secret FBI files. Jonny stood behind her with a smile on his face.
"Are you sure we aren't in the wrong profession's" Jonny asked, teasingly.
"I'm sure," Jessie said with a laugh. She typed in a few more words.
"Bingo!"
"What did you find?"
"Just the files for Dr. Well's 'helpers'. My car was sabotaged last night.
I'm trying to find out who could have done it."
"You're car was sabatoged? What happened?"
Jessie filled him in on last night's events.
"It could have been sabataged at the club. Or... here...." Jonny realized.
"Initiate security system for 10-14 8:00."
The computer opened up a second screen to the computer. A vast sheet of
numbers were displayed on the screen. After a minute the numbers stopped.
"Diagnostic tests turned out negative. No disturbances in house security."
When the voice spoke on the computer Jessie realized immediately who it was.
"Hey that's...."Jessie started to say.
"You're voice," Jonny said with a smile. "You know I had to find a way to
talk to my best friend when you're off globetrotting. You know, you never
called."
"Neither did you."
Jonny and Jessie were silent for awhile. "Look since the security check
turned out negative then your car couldn't have been damaged here." Jonny
pointed out.
"You're right. It had to have been at the club..." Jessie typed in a code
and then pointed to the screen. "Look all of the bar tenders and bouncers
have their records in order. If they left, they did it without checking out."
"Uh huh. So that means we are at ground zero. Mabey you could go to the
club and ask some questions there?"
"Jonny, I have Race's old job. I'm not a P.I. Anyways I don't need to
investigate this. I just have to carry out my mission."
"Yeah I guess." Jonny looked a his watch," I have a meeting with a few
clients but then I'm free for lunch. Wanna join me?"
"Sure. I'm just going to research on the computer a little bit more."
"O.k." Jonny tossed her a key. "Just lock up and say security on when you
leave o.k.?"
"Aye aye captain. See-you in a few."

Ted sat at the dinner table and looked at his watch for the fifteenth
time that minute. He had been waiting for two hours and she still hadn't
showed up. A brunette haired waitress came and brought him his third shrimp
cocktail and chevas.
"Excuse me," Ted said stopping the waitress. "Has any messages been left
for me?"
"I'm sorry sir. There hasn't. You could use the phone up front to call
who ever you are waiting to call."
Ted sighed and leaned back in his chair. "Thank you but that won't be
necessary."
The waitress just shrugged and left.
*Where could she be?* Ted thought to himself.

Jessie let out a laugh and sipped some champagne. She smiled at her friend
as he reminded her about the past adventures doing a pretty accurate Race
imitation.
"Remember when we went to Egypt and Race ordered grilled pigeon?" Jonny
asked.
"His face flashed green when the water told him exactly what it was."
Jonny smiled over at Jessie. *It's great to see her again after all of
these years* he thought to himself. *She has grown a lot since I've last seen
her.* She really is beautiful he subconsciously added. He tuned back to the
conversation. Jessie was laughing again . He was about to tell her about the
new computer product he was working on when his electronic watch beeped.
"Man, it's already 9:30. We've been here for 5 hours. Sheesh I didn't even
notice."
"Really? 9:30?" Something about the time clicked in her mind. *I was
supposed to do something tonight...* Suddenly the realization hit her like a
brick.
"Oh my gosh!" Jessie gasped.
"What? What happened Jess?" Jonny asked, worried.
"I was supposed to meet Ted for dinner over an hour ago."
"And who is Ted?" Jonny asked with curiosity.
"Who is... Oh, Ted's my boyfriend."
"Really you never mentioned him before."
"Oh really? I guess the subject hasn't come up."
Jonny looked thoughtful for a moment. "So how long have you been going
out?"
"Oh.. about a year." For some reason Jessie became uncomfortable with the
conversation. "I'm sorry but I have to go now. " Jessie started to get up to
leave.
"O.k. Jess. I'll see you Saturday. I'll pick you up at eight o.k.?"
"Sure. See you then Jonny."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Jessie sped along US1. She couldn't believe how late she was. She was
lucky if he was still there. She sped across the yellow light and ignored the
honks of the other cars. *I can't believe I spent so much time talking to
Jonny* Jessie pondered the thought. *Actually I can.* She made a quick turn
at a light and turned in the entrance.
When she got to the restaurant she was greeted by the host.
"Excuse me sir" she said to the tall man.
"Yes madam?" the man asked.
"Is a man named Ted still here?"
"Let me go check." The host left and after a moment returned. "He is
still here. Let me take you to him.
When Jessie finally saw Ted she first noticed how downcast he looked.
*Not that I blame him.* She nervously sat infront of him. He barely notice
her presence. She straightened her outfit and sat in the uncomfortable
silence. After awhile she became fed up and began to talk.
"I'm so sorry Ted. I lost track of time. I was already one hour late when
I realized how late it was. "
Ted still did not say a word. He just sat there and stared at Jessie
wondering if she was telling the truth or not. Jessie decided to try to
apologize even further.
"I'm really, really sorry. I didn't mean to be purposely late. I hope
you'll forgive me."
ted sighed before speaking. "Jessica I forgive you." He hesitated and then
began speaking again. "But I've been doing some thinking while I've been
sitting here."
Jessie did not like where the conversation was heading. "Thinking about
what?"
"About me... about us...." at this Ted looked down at the table.
"What about us?" Jessie asked even though she knew the answer.
"I don't think that this is going to work. I think if it would be for the
best if we didn't see each other anymore."
Jessie Sat quietly while she let everything he had just said set in. "Why?"
she asked in a whisper.
"Jessica, I can't go on like this. I need a relationship I can count on.
I can't keep coming to you and then hoping you'll come. With your job I can't
keep on doing this."
"But Ted... I can try..." Jessie desperately added but only succeeded in
being cut off by Ted.
"Jessica. I know you've tried. We never have taken a full vacation.
First Barbados, then Trinidad, and now the Bahamas. They've all been cut off
by your job. I need a relationship I can know it's there."
"I... I don't know what to say," Jessie admitted, trying to hold back the
tears which threatened to run down her cheeks.
"Don't say anything." With that he took her hand in his. "Jessica, I love
you, and I will always love you. But try to understand."
Jessie shook her head. "I won't understand, but I can let you go. Good-
bye Ted."
"But Jessic...." Ted started but Jessie wouldn't let him finish.
"I said Good-bye."
Ted looked at Jessie for a second and then nodded. "Good-bye Jessica," he
said and left Jessie alone at the table with tears streaming down her face.
