Puerile Union
by Ina-chan
Hadji Singh smiled brightly as he took the petite woman in
his arms and hugged her tightly, "Hello mother."
Neela smiled back and returned her son's affection, "My
dear boy. It would seem that you have grown another inch
since your last visit. I have missed you so much."
"I have missed you too mother," The boy replied
"Well, I think a month long vacation here is the perfect
remedy for that," A laughing voice called out from behind him
"We'll be hanging around so much that you'll eventually
become very sick of seeing us," A second voice agreed with a
solemn tone
Neela laughed heartily as she released her son to meet his
two companions, "Absolutely not! Jessie! Jonny! How good it
is to see you both again! Now come, I believe you just arrived
in time for some tea."

A pierce wailing sound resonated across the halls,
disturbing the solemnity of the occasion. The groom glanced at
the direction of the sound uneasily. What creature can possible
create such an awful noise. His silent questioned was answered
as a man dragged the crying bride into the room in huffy
frustration. Seeing the source was from a mere girl, the groom
lost interest and started to look around the room for something
more interesting to observe.
That was until the man yelped in pain as the bride bit his
hand and kicked his shin before retreating to find a defender
from her captor. Some of the guests laughed in amusement,
others sighed in exasperation at the bride's undisciplined
behaviour, while others just muttered irritably at the defilement
of a sacred ritual.
The groom, totally uninterested at what was happening,
was totally caught unaware as the bride almost knocked him
off his feet as she clutched him desperately. He looked down
and saw a large pair of bright brown eyes looking up at him
tearfully, "Please do not let Papa get me."
He looked at the elder man who was restraining the bride
earlier. Though he had a frustrated expression on his face, he
looked like a good man. Like his own father. The groom did
not understand why the bride was so afraid of her father at
that moment. He looked at his own parents and saw them give
him a smile of encouragement. Pity filled the groom's heart.
She seemed so sad and unhappy. So he did exactly what his
mother does for him when he feels sad. He hugged the bride
reassuringly and gave her a warm comforting smile, "I promise
I will not let anything happen to you."
"You promise?" The bride sniffed
The groom nodded enthusiastically.
The guests sighed with relief as it would seem that the
ceremony would take place after all. And so in witness of the
members of the couple's two families, the significant union of
two clans was accomplished. Though it would seem unfortunate
that the bride was busy sucking her thumb and the groom was
fascinated with watching a spider create its web on the ceiling
when this important event in their life was taking place.
Then again, nobody really cared that the groom was only a
bright six-year-old and his bride still in the tender age of four.
In this side of the world, and in the status of their families, this
was the way of things.

A hushed silence fell into the room upon the presence of a
pretty stranger carrying a tray of tea and some finger food
delicacies. She gave the three visitors a shy smile before
retreating to her place beside the Bangalore matriarch.
"Child, this is my son Hadji and his friends. Jonny Quest
and Jessie Bannon," Neela cleared her throat before continuing,
"This is Gheeta. Until recently, I was uncertain of her existence
after our unfortunate... family dispute. Hadji, if you remember
your beloved Uncle Hasaad, this is his lovely daughter."
"Yes," Hadji began doubtfully, "I am not sure, but I believe
I have a faint recollection of him. He was... a distant Uncle, was
he not?"
Neela nodded, "He has passed on recently while you were
in America."
"I'm sorry to hear that," Jonny said solemnly
Gheeta bowed her head.
"It was rather a blessing in disguise, actually," Neela replied
lightly, "Had I not heard the news, I would not have found Gheeta."
"Wow, that's really amazing," Jessie quipped in bafflement
Hadji stood up, smiled brightly, and took the young girl's
hand, "Well, then. Let me formally welcome you back into the
family, cousin."
Gheeta bowed her head again and gave him a shy smile.
Neela cleared her throat uncomfortably again, "Actually, my
son. She is more than just a distant cousin. Gheeta is also your
wife."
Jessie choked.
Tea spurted out of Jonny's nose.
The smile froze on Hadji's lips but eyes started to glaze over
from the shock.
"I am glad to see you again, Hadji," Gheeta's sweet voice
chimed
Hadji blinked at her absent-mindedly, "Holy Sh*t."

Author's Squawk:
I know what you guys are thinking of right now. Two major
unfinished fics. One unfinished insanity fic... now another one?
Well... I was in the middle of writing Funny chap. 4 when this idea
popped in. (Gomen nasai Saijin, I'll try to send you the draft
tomorrow). I sorta remembered that child marriages thing in India
that came out from one of the discussions and then remembered a
romantic novel that Saijin convinced me to read. Viola!
I'm kinda iffy about continuing this one because I'm already
writing an HR-scented insanity laden fic. If I do continue this one
with my personal philosophies on HRism, it'll probably become so
distorted that people might start suing me for emotional trauma...
then again, that's the main reason why you guys love me, right?
But basically, I'm leaving the continuation of this fic in
your hands. Otherwise I will just leave it as it is and let you enjoy
your peace.
And yes. Gheeta is a real name. It's actually the name of one
of my classmates who came from West India... or was it
Pakistan... Oh well... if anybody knows what this name means,
please feel free to tell me. I kinda like it. Gheeta... it rolls quite
nicely on your tongue does it not?
Ja ne!
