Nick is lusting after the new girl, Jodi, but she doesn't seem to be interested. But by the end it looks as though she does kinda like him.
Danielle and Steve are dating.
After Rose prints the lyrics to Jodi's song in the school paper, Deloraine bans the paper. After Nick convinces Rose to print another issue of the now banned paper, the kids are warned and threatened with suspension. They decide to arrange a sit-in type deal to fight for their freedom of speech. They go through with it and Yola and Christina persuade Deloraine and Southgate to listen to what the kids have to say (this was achieved after Christina found some pictures of Deloraine in his youth fighting for his beliefs in the 60s). The kids and administration compromise with eachother and everyone ends up happy (except Con who wanted a soccer team but was not granted one).
Dani and Steve's relationship is rocky and Steve asks Con for help to win Dani back. He ends up dressing up and giving Dani roses on Valentine's day. She then takes him back.
Steve is upset that Dani wants to play soccer because he doesn't want her to get hurt. She's upset with his chauvanist tendencies and their relationship seems on the brink of breaking up. But, Steve sees the error of his ways, apologises to Dani, and then they make up.
Jodi needs an amplifier for her guitarist and so Nick promises he will get her one. He makes a deal with Con that if Con gets Nick an amp, he will score lots of goals. Con gets an amp from some cousin (or uncle?). Jodi makes a recording at the school. Her and Nick are getting closer and a rumour starts that her and Nick are sleeping together. This is due mostly to Con's big mouth. Nick has Con apologise to Jodi and everything works out in the end.
After going to the beach, Nick stays at Jodi's apartment and they sleep together. Nick's parents are upset when he doesn't come home but they end up forgiving him on the condition that they get to meet Jodi. She's scheduled to come over for supper that night, except that she comes over an hour late! Nick's parents aren't upset and everyone seems to like each other.
Christina tells her parents and Marco that she's moving in with Yola.
The A&R man calls Jodi back and says that she's good but they're not sure enough to give her her own record deal. He says that the company wants to send her to Melbourne to play with a rock band. She's unsure at first, but after Irini comes over and talks to her and then convinces her to take the chance, she accepts the offer. Nick is upset at first that she doesn't want him to come with her, but they make up. Nick moves back home and everything's ok with his folks now.
Christina is annoyed that Marco keeps coming over to the flat un-announced, but after a call and some roses, they patch it up also.
To keep them away from welfare and the cops, Yola and Christina let Chaka, Diego, and their little sister, Juanita, stay at their house. At the end, Chaka receives a phone call... it's her dad.
Marco is pestering Christina to pick a wedding day, so she does: it will be in 4 months.
The debate seems pretty even except that Chaka is extrememly nervous and ruins her turn. But miracuously Con makes a brilliant speech and after that it looks like the victory could go either way. Even though they lose the debate, it is a moral victory for all.
The soccer team is unhappy with Christina as coach and Nick is the only one on her side. Nick asks his dad if he would help coach considering he used to be a soccer star in Greece. George says no, and the team gets pretty mad at Nick. Nick's mom, Irini, decides to help Christina and becomes their manager. After a lot of convincing, Irini gets George to agree to coach. Everybody ends up happy.
George and Nick get a call from the police and learn that Irini has been in an accident.
Christina goes over to the Poulos' to talk to George and to tell him that the kids really need him. Con's mom, Helen, also tells George that he can't think of himself as the only one who's lost Irini.
While this is happening, Steve tells Nick that he's heard a rumor (which is actually false) that the other car in the accident was speeding. Nick goes down to the police station and gets so angry with them for not doing their job that he hits one of the officers.
George shapes up and the family seems to be doing much better.
Steve missed an exam with Graham and so Graham schedules the makeup for an afternoon when Steve has rugby practise. He goes and complains to Southgate. Southgate can't agree on a solution so they go and see Deloraine. Deloraine wants them to compromise but Graham won't give in and Steve must sit the exam. Steve grudgingly writes the exam, but after he's proud of himself and so is Dani. Because he no longer can play rugby, he joins the soccer team and everyone welcomes him.
The soccer team needs new jerseys badly after they see their rich opponent practising and also see their nice shiny jerseys. At Ruby's Con sees a guy that can get jerseys for the team. He wants to get them for free so he makes a bet for them over a game of pool. Somehow though, Ruby ends up playing the game and winning! They now have shiny red jersys and win their match with a great shot made by Steve.
Marco gets his promotion except that it means that he will be moving to Perth. He has it all arranged for him and Christina to move right away. Christina seems to accept at first, but she doesn't want to leave Hartley especially after all the work she's done with the kids. Marco doesn't seem to respect her career or choices, and this makes it clear to Christina that she doesn't want to go. She tells Marco this and also tells him that the wedding is off. He does not take it too well.
Every girl is ga-ga over the new drama and english teacher, Mr. North, including Yola. She is continually asking him to go out with her, but his eye seems to be on Christina.
George and Stella argue over the sanctity of marriage; she tells him she left her husband. As George finds it unforgiveable that a woman could leave her husband, he refused to listen to her, to hear her reasons, and just urges Stella to find another job.
Rose gets flirty with her teacher, Mr North, giving him a short story to read. She tries to give him a shoulder rub down too but he declines.
Nick and Effie are disappointed that Stella is gone, and refuse to eat George's breakfast.
The kids in North's class are doing animals. Rivers, appropriately enough, is an ape. Con is a dog who 'pees' on Bolton. Rose is a very friendly cat, who rubs herself against North's leg, to his embarrassment. He brings it up later to Christine and Yola, who don't take Rose's efforts seriously.
The theme in North's class is Witchcraft, and they are to act out The Crucible by Arthur Miller. Parts are handed out and Rose asks to play Abigail (who falls in love with an older man, Proctor). She suggests North should play John Proctor. "If you were there, I wouldn't even have to act" she tells him. The next scene, Rose watches North surfing, then talks to him on the beach. She gets him to admit she's attractive. North later tells Christine, Yola, and Graham at dinner that night, and they notify him that he's gotten himself in a bit of a mess. So the next day, after class, North and Rose meet at the beach. He tells Rose about how he once taught at a small school (in the outback I think) and got involved with a student. It ruined his marriage and nearly cost him his job. So, no more of that, thank you very much. She appreciates his honesty and plants a fat kiss on his cheek with a cheerful "see ya".
Stella shows up at the Poulos door, to give something to Effie. George invites her in, after apologizing for not listening to her. He eventually asks her to return, and she agrees.
Rivers and Steve have devised a clever way to clean up the school yard: they put pictures of Deloraine up above a couple of basketball hoops and the school kids basically clean up the yard by throwing the rubbish through the hoops.
Last scene: Stella is playing in the street with Steve and Effie, watched over by a smiling George Poulos.

He reveals to Southgate that when he's under pressure he gets really nervous and so he didn't want to be on the blading team. Southgate changes his mind and lets Bolton wear the mask and enters the team into the competition. With everyone's encouragement, by his last try, Bolton has the confidence to blade without the mask.
