#1 A hero awakens

A young scarlet-haired girl sat siliently in a small corner of her room. True, there was a tall chair, crafted of oak, resting by her desk, but it did not matter. She had a Sailor Moon comic book resting carefully on her crossed legs. A comic based on the true story of Sailor Moon, and her partner, Sailor Mercury. Sailor Moon was Rhea's idea of the perfect person. How she wished she could be just like her.

"Ree! Your going to be late!"

Quickly she closed the comic book and carefully placed it on the smoothest section of her purple bed covers. This would be the second time she'd be late in one week! But Sailor Moon was just too wonderful.

"If I were a Sailor Senshi I would not have to worry about school." Longingly, she sighed.

She grabbed her over stuffed back pack, and then dubbled back realizing it would take more effort to lift the pack. She finally managed to get the pack in the air and lift the straps aroung her shoulders. They dug into her skin from the weight. 8:03. Already she was late. She ran for the door, blocked by her mother.

"Your lunch." The small brown bag hung limply from her mothers delicately strong hands.

"Thanks Mom!" She tore the bag from her hands and ran out the front door. At school she was scolded by her teacher for being late, again. Basicly, school was boring that day. The excitment began when the final school bell rang. Ree had to walk home from school. She usually did almost every day. The walk wasn't too bad, but it was long.

"Hey REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" A short, bolnd boy came running up to her, holding out a small, kitten so dark that it almost looked green.

"Tommy! What are you doing!" She noticed the kitten held so carelessly in his hands. "Be careful with that!"

"Here, I know you've wanted a cat, and I found this one two minutes ago." He smiled, pleased he had done someting nice for Ree.

Ree frowned. "Tommy, I can't just take any cat off the street! What if she belongs to someone?"

Tommy paused. "I hadn't thought of that." Scilence. He then abruptly lifted his head. "Well if she dose belong to someone, then she's probably lost because I found her in the park."

"Here, let me take her, you could hurt the poor cat if you hold her like that." Ree took the kitten from Tommy's cruel grip. Gently she began to stoke the kitten's soft fur. She purred gently.

"See, I think she likes you." Now Ree will surly like me!

Ree looked into the kitten's big, turquoise eyes. "I'll take her to my place and try to find her real home."

Tommy beamed. "Can I walk you home, then? Sine I found her...."

"No, that'll be quite alright."

Tommy frowned.

Ree walked away.

The kitten sat calmly in her arms, purring the whole way home.

It was getting late. Ree was just about tired enough to sleep. The kitten lay on her bed, starring at her. She had been doing just that for hours now. Ree narrowed her brow, and starred back into the kitten's eyes with her green gaze. Finally, the kitten stood, as though it was going to say something. And that is when, for the first time, Ree noticed the tiny, gold cresant moon upon the kitten's forehead. Now how had she missed that, before?

And then the kitten spoke. "My name is Iris. I would not have spoken if I did not sense great power coming from you."

Ree was ready to faint. She could not speak.

"Everybody from the Moon thinks I'm dead. I think my sister, Luna, has found most of the other senshi. She's the guardian of the Moon Princess. I'm not a guardian, but I have some equipment that she lost."

Ree sat, stunned. "I must be losing my mind...."

"No, no." The kitten turned her head to look through the small window above her bed. "I think you are Sailor Earth."

"What? Sailor Earth? Why are you speaking?!!"

Iris looked back at her. "Here, take this." Iris did a somersault into the air, high above her bed. When she landed, a small wand apeared beside her. "You don't believe me? Take this and shout, Earth Power!" Ree reached up from her spot upon the chestnut colored floor and sensitively placed her fingers around the wand. She couldn't believe she was doing this.

"Earth Power, Makeup!!"

In a brilant show of light and magic, Ree was dresed in a sailor suit, much like the one Sailor Moon and the other Senshi wore!

"So you are Sailor Earth!"

"Lord Jade, why, may I ask, have you chosen this city?" A youthful appearing woman stood tall in a darken room, her slender features twitched slightly at the man who appeared no more than a shadow.

"Because, Krystillia, there are no Sailor Senshi in Kyoto who would thwart our plans." The shadowy figure settled back into an unseen chair that stood upon a platform crafted of unearthly crystal glass.

"Of course, Lord Jade." She bent her neck ever so slightly in order lower her head, expressing her humble nature in the presance of her Lord and Master.

Jade rested his resolute chin mindfully upon his fist. I can now reveal my plans to you, Krystillia."

She shifted her lank eyebrows above her cerulean eyes. Finally, to be trusted enough by Lord Jade to fullfill a mission for hime. Faintly she smiled.

It then appeared that Lord Jade was reaching behind his darkened figure, grasping for something that lay behind his chair. When his arm returned, a luminous orb became visible, floating only inches from the palm of his hand. The verdant light ceaselessly emerged from the transcendent orb.

Krystillia looked up at him, half his mouth now visible due to the soft rays of green luminance. Would she be trusted in the safekeeping of this invaluable treasure? "My Lord, what is it that you wish for me to do?"

Jade's eyes traveled towards her.

Scilence.

Krystillia took an insignificant step back.

"This. It is a seed. Not the orb itself, though inside it is where the actual seed lays. The surrounding light is merely a shield of protection, so to speak." His eyes turned back to the seed as he rose from his seat. "When it grows it will expand, becomeing too big for the shield to hold it in. However, when that occurs, its powers will grow beyond words." He paused. "It is then that the Negaverse will easily take control of this wretched land!"

"It needs energy. And it needs a great deal. Krystillia, you will gather energy for this seed. Earth will soon be at our mercy." He stood, lost in his somber vision.

Krystillia's azure eyes lit up in a dark fashion. "A pet." The sound was so low she almost mouthed the words. "I'll chose a pet of mine for the task."

"Perfect. Never before have they failed me."

Krystillia took a long look at the black seed which rested in the center of the orb. She was in charge of this mission. Wonderful choice she made when she did not accept the offer from Queen Beryl. Word was that Sailor Moon was foiling Jedite's every plan. There would be no Sailor Senshi for her to deal with, however. Lord Jade was a much wiser choice.

"Catch!" Lord Jade through out a rotund ruby crystal for her to catch.

Lost in thought, she nearly missed the rather large crystal, yet she managed to grab it in due time.

"Use this to gather energy and then transfer the energy to the seed." He turned away from her as she studied her new weapon. "Now be off with you! We must get working quickly enough, least some Sailor Senshi pop up. They have been doing that lately, you know. There are now three. You never know if another would suddenly appear." He lifting his head back, deeper into the shadows. "Begin tonight."

So soon? "Yes, my Lord." She knelt down one one knee, pallid locks of hair falling over her left shoulder, trickling down onto the cold stone floor. After a moment had passed, she arose. And she left. I'll send Pharaoh. An inert smile passed through her lips.

*             *                 *                          *              *                   *

A crackleing of white light passed through the window, followed shortly by an ear-splitting scream.

Iris's eyes filled with the light as it cut through the darkness, leaving a white trail across the brown carpeted floor.

"What was that?" Sailor Earth jumped, startled. She did not like this.

"I have a bad feeling about this...." Iris leaped onto the thin window cill. She was frightened. Think, what would Luna do? "Come on! This could be the Negaverse. We...."

"Negaverse?"

"No, not enough time to explain. We have got to go."

It was then that it hit her. She was Sailor Earth. A true Senshi. She would have to fight, just as her idols have always done. She loved to dream of this, picture it in her head, imagine the sudden rush of adrenaline that comes with the knowledge that you might die. And then the power flowing strongly through her as she rose to save the day. Lastly the victory, the feeling of meeting the enemy head on, and then living to tell.

Is this what she truely wanted?

Her heart felt as though it might burst straight out of her chest.

Yet somehow, it just felt right.

She followed Iris out the window.

A man with a sullen walk headed down a darkened alley.

"A test..."

He looked back. He had thought he heard a woman's whisper. No. It had to be the wind. He once again began walking with a quickened step.

A low purring sounded behind him.

He turned his dark eyes, but this time not his head. He continued to walk.

At once he felt a sharp pain slice down his back.

He fell to the ground with a giant roar. A soft trickling coming from the place in which he felt the most pain.

The whisper came again. "Be gentle."

He could barely turn his head to look. A panther? No, now a woman. Something red. His body buckled as pain filled his body. He felt his soul was being torn from his very being.

And then, blackness.

*             *                 *                          *              *                   *
"I feel a strong energy, this way." Iris ran ahead of Ree. She could barely keep up with the energetic little kitten.

Iris turned a corner, and Sailor Earth thought she had lost the kitten. It was then she heard her shreik.

Ree ran toward the sound and found Iris next to an unconscious man, blood, flowing from a giant wound upon his back. His brown leather jacket was cut straight down the middle with rigges along the two sides it appeared as though he had been malled.

Ree gasped, taking two steps back. "Iris.."
