WHERE TO GET RIMS LIKE THE GENERAL'S
The famed and elusive rims of the General Lee. Most of the e-mail I get is about these rims and where to get them. The first sets were made by American Racing. They have been called turbine rims, hurricanes, and 10 fin shelbys. I can't say for sure what they are actually called, but I do know American Racing hasn't made them for years. Basically, its a 10 spoke aluminum mag. Fortunately, in about 85, buick started using rims exactly like the general's on their cars. Mine were off an 85 Buick Regal, but I have also seen them on Grand Nationals. Rumor has it that Warner Bros. had even used these rims and had them drilled to fit the dodge bolt pattern. That would probably make them available a little earlier than 85, but you can bank on 85 as a definite. However, instead of drilling mine out, which is probably expensive and dangerous, I just ordered a set of wheel adapters from JCWhitney. The rims, being from a Buick, ran me $60 for all four and another $60 for the adapters. Throw on some chrome lug nuts and some black wall radials and they look perfect. So start hitting those junkyards and checking your local auto ads. I even made up a sheet for you to take along with all the important info and a picture - just click on the link below and print it out. The only thing you have to do is buy them.
