The story of Akira takes place when Neo-Tokyo (in the year 2019) is gettting ready for the Olympics,
soon to be held there. We are then treated to explosions in the beginning of the film,
focusing on a bunch of students trying to rebel against the government (or should
I say running from tear-gas) that is coming their way from the oncoming law enforecment to
keep the peace.
Not soon after that we are introduced to a motorcycle gang led by a kid named
Kaneda who riding through Neo-Tokyo, trying not to get into any major trouble.
This is where we meet the main characters of Akira, Tetsuo and Kaneda.
Their motorcycle gang is constantly trying to kill a rival motorcycle gang called The Clowns.
Once the two rival gangs meet, they go after Tetsuo, who sets his sights on a certain
clown member. Chasing the clown member, he skids out and collides with the "little blue boy" (kinda troll looking),
who possesses strange abilities that mirror his strange appearance. His powers go berserk, and
start to kill people. Eventually the entire crew gets caught and get taken away by the law.
This is the beginning of the story of Akira. The plot in Akira is very complex, and a lot of people have trouble
keeping up with it the whole time. You must watch to follow along, and take notes as you go.
The films plot is just enough alone to keep you watching, but there is enough of everything else
to keep you intrested the whole way through. Visually it is very impressive, with very
good animation and an overall "techno" look to it which rivals
any other anime movies to date.
Akira has a huge following and is one of the most popular anime movies ever!! If you do not
mind being a little dunbfounded about the plot(At least the first time you see it), I would
recommend it.
P.S. The ending could have been a lot better.
