Females come up at night and in the cover of the dark they lay their eggs. No people are allowed on the protected beaches at night as movement and light may scare the female away before laying her eggs. The Fisheries Department personnel sometimes need to approach the female in order to tag them for monitoring. This is done after she had laid her eggs and it's only done by marine turtle experts. This picture was taken after the female laid her eggs and she was covering her nest.
