Let's Do Brunch: Deidre Hall's Plantation Break 1998
Days of Our Lives fans, take note: There's still time to make reservations for Deidre Hall's (Marlena) "Plantation Break 1998," her brunch in Charleston, South Carolina on July 5th. The event begins at 10am and costs $50. There will be videos, gag reels, door prizes and more. To reserve a spot, write or send your check to: Tinselvania, PO Box 6026-109, Sherman Oaks, CA, 91413. (Or phone: 562-945-4949). If you write, make sure to include your phone number, since the event is a week away! "After the event, I often hear people say they didn't know about it," says Hall, "I want to be able to talk to every person, sign every autograph, hug every baby. We want people who want to be there to hear about it. One of the things we do is give you a list of hotels in the area that are inexpensive and are within walking distance of the event. We also get a discount on airfare and room rates in the area."
Here's more of Hall on her event, Days, John and Marlena and more:
Digest: Describe the event for us.
Hall: The event is a luncheon for fans in Charleston, South Carolina. They win scripts and other prizes. Our wardrobe master, Richard Bloore, gave me clothes from Marlena's closet to give away. We show videos, we show outtakes, we have a lot of Q&A. It's just a big hoot. What's interesting about the East Coast is I always find the audiences are a
little more fun, a little more game, a little more festive than the West Coast. I'm not putting down the West Coasters, but I love that out-of-town feel.
Digest: What made you choose South Carolina?
Hall: A friend of mine was born and raised there and talks about it so much that I said, "Maybe we'll try it for the luncheon this year." So we did. I've never been there, never seen it; I hear Charleston is extraordinary.
Digest: Where has Marlena been?
Hall: After the Emmys, I was off for three weeks. I didn't have a vacation planned. My vacation is actually in July, so I am back on camera now and I will be on until I go. I will be pre-taping for when I'm on vacation, so I will be around.
Digest: Fans think you have been off-screen because it's a clause in your new contract.
Hall: There has been a lot of speculation about my new contract. I figure if I shut my own mouth, I will be up to $5 million a year... Let the rumor mill run wild! (Laughs) Besides, my contract doesn't even start until August. Thanks for the speculation and the interest, but no, there's nothing like that going on.
Digest: What would you like to see happen with John and Marlena?
Hall: I would like to see them fall in love again and have those old-fashioned boy/girl first love scenes. We've done some of that, but that would be my wish.
Digest: What do you think of the John/Hope rumored pairing? Fans seem resistant to the idea.
Hall: I saw an article that talked about that and I had thought it was just speculation until I saw it, so I'm not sure what's going on there. I understand that the fans will be upset. After waiting for so long for John and Marlena to get together, I wouldn't be happy if I was a fan either.
Digest: What would you like to see happen with Marlena?
Hall: I like her women friendships, that intensity and sense of sharing and caring. I also like her therapy. I don't dictate story, but I do enjoy that. If there's some romantic or dishy stuff included in the therapy sessions, that's kind of fun to see, too. Didn't you love the Susan therapy sessions? They were so sweet and you were waiting for Marlena to figure out who she was. It was tenterhooks time and it was also fun because Susan was just so magical.
Digest: Do people still ask you about the devil storyline?
Hall: Yes, the fans loved it. They're curious about if she is coming back. We have people coming from Australia to the East Coast luncheon who are seeing the devil storyline there, so it should be fun.
Digest: What are your summer plans?
Hall: Spending time with my children [David Atticus and Tully Chapin], staying close to home. We've done some short trips, but no big away-from-home plans.
Digest: Do you like raising two boys?
Hall: It's the best. Boys are just hilarious. They love you and flirt with you and protect you and they're yummy. They make funny body sounds, but besides that, they're great.
Digest: Do you have any other appearances scheduled?
Hall: This weekend, I am doing a collectors' show in Beverly Hills. Kristian Alfonso [Hope] and Christie Clark [Carrie] will be there too. I've heard that Jed Allan [ex-Don] and Robert Clary [ex-Robert] will be there, I'm not sure. On July 26, I'll be doing Christmas in July on QVC. I'll be talking about six special Christmas ornaments. They are 3-dimensional replications of a television set, a jukebox, things like that and they have a digital recording of something on the ornament. I have recorded "Twas The Night Before Christmas" and the sound quality is wonderful. There's also one with Bing Crosby singing "White Christmas." They are fun and beautiful ornaments.
