SYNOPSIS
Lorne Greene headed a family of
firefighters in this instructional series. Joe
Rorchek was a 30-year veteran of the Los Angeles City Fire Department who
specialized in arson investigations. His sons were also firemen - Ted on the
ground and Chris from the air, as a helicopter pilot. Haley was a young woman trying to prove herself as the
city's first female "smoke eater," and Danny was a homeless 13-year-old
adopted by the Rorcheks. Naturally he joined the Fire Department's Explorer
Program so he could learn all about firefighting, too.
Along
with lessons in fire safety, viewers saw examples of the work of paramedics, rescue
operations, and even "scuba diving for underwater fire prevention" - a
danger most people would find unlikely!
