SYNOPSIS
Each city had its own version of PM Magazine with local hosts who introduced short, entertaining stories featuring tips for better living, interesting people and unusual places.
A typical week's show might include: a profile of Alan Alda; a man's reunion with girlfriends from years past; a recipe for gooseberry compote and ways to reduce stress. Some of the shows were introduced outdoors and taped on location using small, portable "minicam" TV cameras. The viewer never saw the inside of a TV studio.
By the mid-1980's the number of stations carrying PM Magazine had started to dwindle. Stations were now looking for programming that came completely packaged and did not require local involvement. The trend accelerated with the emergence of the more sensational "tabloid news" programs like A Current Affair, which attracted larger audiences. By 1990, with fewer than 24 stations still carrying the show, Westinghouse Broadcasting (the shows owners) decided to cancel it. It went out of production in December of that year.
