SYNOPSIS
Simon Templar was dashing, urbane, sophisticated and independently wealthy. He was also a crook - but a gentlemanly, modern-day Robin Hood-type of crook who took on the causes of those less fortunate who had been robbed, swindled or somehow taken advantage of by their fellow man. His calling card, a stick figure with a halo (representing a saint), was very well known in society circles and among the police of six continents. The police regarded him, however, as a mixed blessing because he was dedicated to justice but often used illegal means to achieve his goals.
The Saint had long been a popular character in fiction, first in the best-selling novels of mystery writer Leslie Charteris and later in a series of movies and radio shows in the 1930's and 40's. This television version was produced in England and was first seen in syndication in the U.S. in the early 1960's. It made its network debut, with all new episodes, in 1967. A decade after the Roger Moore version left the airways, CBS added Return of the Saint to its Late Movie lineup. Ian Ogilvy replaced Moore in the title role.
Another version of The Saint surfaced during the 1989-1990 season, with Simon Dutton playing the role in a series of made-for-TV movies.
