SYNOPSIS
John Shaft was a flamboyant, streetwise private detective working in New York City, although his cases often took him far from the "Big Apple."
Smooth, steady and deadly efficient with a gun, he was sought out by all sorts of people when they needed help. His source of information, when needed, was police Lt. Al Rossi, with whom he had a friendly working relationship.
Richard Roundtree brought John Shaft to television after a series of highly successful theatrical features in which he played the part. The theme for the TV series was written for the first Shaft movie, and won composer Isaac Hayes an Academy Award.
Shaft was one of three elements that rotated in the Tuesday 9:30-11:00p.m. time slot on CBS during 1973-1974. The other two were: Hawkins and The New CBS Tuesday Night Movies.
