The 1960's opened with Miss Argentina, Norma Gladys Cappagli, winning the title. Her path to victory was not an easy one. Threatened with disqualification because she liked to hoist a scotch or two at the end of a long day of rehearsal, Norma fought back. She demanded to know, "Where does it say in the rules
that I can be disqualified for having a late night drink if I want one?" Apparently, nothing in the rules did address this issue and she went on to victory.
Later in the 1960's a new kind of scandal would rock the Miss World Pageant - nude photos of two Miss Worlds surfaced. The two ladies in question, Miss World 1965 and Miss World 1969, would find themselves
embarrassed by photos they had posed for before becoming Miss World. It was the word "before" that saved them both from having to be dethroned.

With the crowning of Miss UK, Lesley Langley, as Miss World 1965, came the criticism that the pageant might be fixed. Miss Langley was the third Miss United Kingdom to win the title in five years.
Could things get any worse? You bet.
