"The Strange Case of Cappagli's Car"

Here is Miss World 1960, Argentina's Norma Cappagli, in a happy moment, before she lost the car that was part of her prize package.

In the 1976 book Miss World: The Naked Truth, author Don Short reveals that Norma never actually got to keep the car that was part of her winnings. After her crowning, she left for Paris and Rome. The car was parked in a garage...where it sat for two years and was eventually sold to pay for the garage bills.

Eric Morley, founder of Miss World, is quoted as saying that upon her return to London "Norma was very upset and expected a cash settlement, but there was nothing we could do. The firm who presented the car didn't feel inclined to replace it."

A special thanks to Jose Medel Bello for sharing this great photo with us.
