A Showcase of Beauty

This year marks the 20th anniversary of The Beauty Book by Doris G. Nuyda. The book chronicles the history of Philippine beauty from 1908 to 1980.

The Beauty Book includes color and black and white pictures, as well as profiles of past Filipino winners and runners-up in all Filipino and international pageants. Unfortunately, this book is out of print now and is thus considered one of the rare treasures showcasing Filipino beauty queens.

If the book were revised today, it would no doubt showcase the latest Filipino beauty to grace the universal stage, Miriam Quiambao, pictured here. Miriam was Miss Philippines Universe 1999 and first runner-up to Miss Universe 1999.

Here's a bit of trivia from the book - The first titleholders of Miss Universe (Armi Kuusela of Finland), Miss International (Stella Marquez of Colombia) and Miss Asia Quest/Asia Pacific (Angela Filmer of Malaysia) all married Filipinos.
