Miss Universe 1962

"The Lady Vanishes"

The Lady Vanishes is the title of an early Alfred Hitchcock film. It could also be the title of a movie about Miss Universe 1962, Argentina's Norma Nolan, seen here on the cover of the program book for the 1963 Miss Universe Pageant.

Norma has proven to be a rather enigmatic titleholder. The only Argentine to win the title, she has kept a very low, almost invisible profile. Her last appearance in the pageantry arena was as a guest at the Miss Universe Pageant in the late 60's or early 70's.

Since that time, she has refused all requests for interviews. She is reported to be living in the Miami Beach, Florida area, where it was rumored she once owned a bookstore.

For reasons known only to Norma, she even turned down an invitation to join all the South American Miss Universe titleholders at a reunion in her native Argentina.

Her vanishing act extends to the 1962 pageant itself. To date, no complete film or video recording of the pageant has surfaced, and rumor has it that the original was destroyed.

Norma, wherever you are, we wish you the best and hope you will grace us with a public appearance in the near future. If you did...it would be...well...as they say in Argentina...Macanudo!
