PICTURE OF THE WEEK

For this week's Picture of the Week, honoring Miss Universe 1984, Yvonne Ryding of Sweden, we borrow a headline from the papers.

In 1984, the Miss Universe pageant returned to the Miami area after a 12-year absence, and the Miami Herald give the pageant front page headlines.

Here we see Yvonne reading the Miami Herald's headline - "Swede Dream: A beauty bewitches the universe" - the morning after her victory. (We here at Beauty School can tell you she sure bewitched us, too!)

Also in 1984, the pageant began to borrow hit pop songs from the music charts for their opening production numbers. "All Night Long," Lionel Ritchie's big hit, was the pop song they went with in 1984. The pageant would continue this "hit parade" for their opening numbers through 1989.
