Miss Universe 1987

PICTURE OF THE WEEK

December 27, 1998

"All The Rage"

Throughout the Miss Universe pageants of the 1950's and 1960's, gloves were considered de rigueur - no evening gown was complete without them.

In 1987, Chile's Cecilia Bolocco single-handedly (or should we say double-handedly?) made gloves all the rage again. Her elegant white gown and gloves made her a vision from the glamorous past and most assuredly helped her to bag the title of Miss Universe.

Miss Universe hopefuls across the globe took note of Cecilia's lesson in retro, but modern haute couture. The next year, in Taipei, five of the ten semifinalists (Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, Colombia, and Norway) sported gloves - in colors ranging from white to black to pink - with their evening gowns.

Beauty School thanks Cecilia for ushering in a new era of evening gown elegance and sophistication. And she makes the perfect picture of the week to usher in the New Year.

Best wishes from Beauty School for a fabulous new year full of haute couture and good hair days!
