"Another Crown in the Cosmos"

Long Beach, CA mayor Edwin W. Wade gives a congratulatory kiss to the first Miss International, Stella Marquez of Colombia. In this photo, Stella is wearing the new crown and robe commissioned for the occasion by the city of Long Beach.

Long Beach hosted the Miss International Pageant from 1960 to 1965, and again in 1967 and 1971. To learn more about the "golden years" of Miss International, 1960-1965, be sure to attend our Miss International Seminar Series.

Our first seminar is on the 1960 Miss International Pageant, the inaugural event that firmly placed another crown in the cosmos for all pageant fans to admire.

Beauty School thanks William Prendiz de Jurado, for sharing his Miss International archives, including the photo you see here, with us. Not only is William a great Miss International fan, but he is also the ultimate Miss Universe fan. If you haven't done so already, read our interview with him.
