PICTURE OF THE WEEK
Miss USA 1966, California's Maria Remenyi, is the very smiling picture of success, seen here just minutes after winning the title.
During her year as Miss USA, Maria visited many U.S. states and foreign countries. But it was one place that charmed her enough to make her want to live there.
While making a public appearance at the St. Albans Fair in Vermont on behalf of one of the Miss USA sponsors, Royal Crown Cola, she fell in love with the Green Mountain State. She continued to visit on skiing trips and eventually made Vermont her home, where she now owns an accounting and financial services company for small businesses.
Last year, the Vermont newspaper The Sunday Rutland Herald-The Sunday Times Argus, profiled Maria. In the article, Maria talked about her childhood in Hungary, escaping the Soviet-occupied country in 1956, and moving with her family to California, where in 1965, she took her first step to becoming Miss USA. Without telling her parents, she borrowed a swimsuit from a friend, and entered and won a modelling contest.
Who will success smile on this year at the Miss USA Pageant? We here at Beauty School can only hope it is someone whose smile is as enchanting and warm as Maria's.
