PICTURE OF THE WEEK

For those students who are home for the summer, you may not be aware that the air conditioning on campus has been out for over a week. The staff and the handful of students doing summer studies have been sweltering in this heatwave, and as such we think it has gone to our brains.

Last week we shared a silly photo from Miss USA 1952, and we think we are on a kick here. We have been going throught the archives stored in the basement of Marina Papaelia Hall (the only cool spot on campus), and found ourselves responding to pictures we thought were just plain silly. So...here is to a summer of silliness!

On July 2nd, Miss Universe 1988, Thailand's Porntip Nakhirunkanok, celebrated her 30th birthday. We thought we would mark this occasion with this Picture of the Week.

Here we find lovely Porntip peering out at us from behind a curtain of blue plastic beads which imply a night in the tropics. Trouble is, Porntip appears to be a tad overdressed for this setting. All those rhinestones and that...that "thing" on her head.. and what about those feathers? In the tropics...? Oh my.

Nonetheless, while this studio shot may seem hokey, Porntip looks absolutely ravishing.

Happy Belated Birthday greetings to Miss Universe 1988, and despite what we think about what she is wearing, we must not loose sight of the fact that with a name like Porntip she can wear whatever she wants!
