PICTURE OF THE WEEK
This Friday, September 10, the Miss Venezuela Pageant celebrates its golden anniversary. For 50 years, Venezuela has demonstrated to us all that it is home to the most beautiful women in the World...and the Universe!
To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Miss Venezuela Pageant, we present the first Venezuelan woman to capture one of the two big titles, Susana Djuim, in 1955. In the photo, we see her coronation as the new Miss World. On Susana's right is Eunice Grayson, popular British film actress in the 1950's.
And because we love our trivia, we would like to share with you the Associated Press article that ran in the world's newspapers the day after Susana won the Miss World title:
"LONDON, Oct. 20 (AP) - Susana Djuim of Venezuela tonight won the title of Miss World in competition with 20 other girls. Margaret Anne Haywood of Jonesboro, Ark., was runner-up. Julia Coumoundourou of Greece placed third.
"Miss Djuim, 19, is a photographer's model from Caracas. She has long black hair and was one of the tallest girls in the contest, standing 5 feet 8." A heartfelt thanks to our Esteemed Benefactor for sharing this rare photo with us.
