There once a poor, but happy family who lived in China. The good husband, Yeung Chow-Kan (played by Chan Chun-Wah), worked in a clothing department and his honest wife, Chow Lai-Han (played by Lee Si-Kei), worked in the pig barn. And their cute little boy, Yeung Kwa-Hoi, went to elementary school. The whole family was very happy living together even though they could not afford material things for their son's needs. One day, Han decided to migrate to Hong Kong to have a better life. Since her father and her little brother had already left to Hong Kong, she decided to apply for the migration. Kan at first did not agree, but because of his little son's future, Kan has to say "yes." But before they left to Hong Kong, an incident occurred. Han and little Kwa-Hoi could not ride with Kan to Hong Kong. In fact, Han was put in jail while little Kwa-Hoi stayed at the neighbor's house. Kan left China to Hong Kong in a state of worry and concern. When he finally got to Hong Kong, he was still very sad and missed his family very much. He almost killed himself when a rich family saved him. A few months later, Kan got a job at a restaurant. The owner of this restaurant was the same family who saved Kan from killing himself. It was through this correspondence that Kan met his brother-in-law and found out that his father-in-law had died. Although Kan was living in Hong Kong, his heart was with his family in China. He wrote letters to his wife, but there was no reply. One thing Kan didn't know about his brother-in-law was that he was a bastard. His brother-in-law tried every shallow scheme to get Kan's money. One time, he told Kan to give him money so he could go to China and bring his sister, Han, to Hong Kong. Kan believed him. But his brother-in-law did not go to China, instead he went gambling. After losing all the money, Kan's brother-in-law told Kan a lie. He said that the communist Chinese government had granted permission for Han and little Kwa-Hoi to come to Hong Kong, but while traveling to Hong Kong, the train had exploded killing Han and little Kwa-Hoi. Poor Kan, he believed every single words his brother-in-law had said. Kan was so sad. Luckily at that time, Kan had someone to talk to, Kan Wai-Chung (played by Wong Koi-Yan). The lady who saved Kan from killing himself when he first arrived in Hong Kong. After a period of time spending with Wai-Chung, Kan decided to marry her since Han and little Kwa-Hoi were dead. Besides, Wai-Chung's father had passed away and gave the "Chut-Hao" restaurant to Kan. |

By the time Kan got married and became a rich man in Hong Kong, Han and little Kwa-Hoi were released out of jail. Han and her son decided to go to Hong Kong and find Kan... Han and little Kwa-Hoi arrived in Hong Kong on the Moon Festival. By the time she found out where Kan lived, it was too late. Han was mad, sad and disappointed when she saw Kan sitting next to his new wife, Wai-Chung, and holding their new born baby. Han left Hong Kong immediately. She went to Guang Zhou (Kwang Chow) and decided to spend the rest of her life there. Twenty years later, all the kids had grown up, all the elders were getting old. Little Kwa-Hoi (now played by Francis Ng Chun-Yu) has grown up to be a great young adult. Kwa-Hoi now has a lovely girlfriend name Yuen Lai (played by Lily Chung Suk-Wai), a best friend name Chun, and a carrying mother who had suffered along with him in the past. Meanwhile in Hong Kong, Kan and Wai-Chung's son has also grown up. The son's name was Yeung Man-Hoi (played by Frankie Lam Man-Lung). Man-Hoi was an energetic young man who won everyone's loves for him. Even Wai-Chung's naughty little sister, Sandy Ma Po-San (played by Ko Mei-Wah), love Man-Hoi even though she dislike Kan. She loves Man-Hoi like her own son. Back in 1965 when Wai-Chung gave birth to Yeung Man-Hoi, another baby girl was born on the same day as Man-Hoi, her name was Kei Lo. Kei Lo's mother, Mei-Nga (played by Lui Yuen Yan), was friends with Wai-Chung. Mei-Nga was married to Kei Chun-Chung (played by Lau Kong) and also had a baby boy name Lam. Kei Lo was their second kid. Even though Mei-Nga and Wai-Chung were friends, but then they lost contact with each other due to the fall of Kei's family. |

Twenty-one years later, Mei-Nga was married to a taxi driver, they had a girl name Chok Nga-Yan (played by Gigi Lai Chi). Lam, Mei-Nga's oldest son, still lived with Mei-Nga and his new dad, the taxi driver. However, years ago Kei Chun-Chung has taken Kei Lo away from Mei-Nga and went to Taiwan. Lam met Yeung Man-Hoi in university while Lam was still in school. Man-Hoi was a few years younger than Lam. So when Lam graduated, Man-Hoi was still in the university. Luckily Lam's little sister, Chok Nga-Yan, entered university and she met Man-Hoi. She had never noticed much about him because she had heard that he was a richie; therefore, she expected a richie to be arrogant. Nga-Yan was a shrewdish young girl. Man-Hoi was a hot-tempered man. No one thought that these two could get along together. At first both were like fire and water, fighting all the time. But as time went by, love began to develop between them and Nga-Yan fell for Man-Hoi just because of a hot kiss. At that time, Yeung Kwa-Hoi came to Hong Kong with a training program for waiters. Kwa-Hoi met and became friends with Yeung Man-Hoi without knowing that Man-Hoi was his half-brother. But soon enough Kwa-Hoi found out that Man-Hoi was his half-brother. Everything else from then on came pouring out like a set of dominoes falling into patterns, more secrets were being exposed. At this time, Kei Lo (played by Maggie Siu Mei-Kei) has grown up. She came back to Hong Kong because of her useless father, Kei Chun-Chung. Kei Lo met Man-Hoi and secretly began to admire him. She knew that Man-Hoi was her half-sister (Nga-Yan)'s boyfriend, so she made herself stop thinking about him. Yeung Kwa-Hoi, on the other hand, was in love with Chok Nga-Yan after hanging out with her several times. Unlike Kei Lo who was reserved with her admiration for Man-Hoi, Kwa-Hoi used every single chance he got to wreck the love between Man-Hoi and Nga-Yan. Although he didn't want to, his love for Nga-Yan increased as time went by. When Man-Hoi and Nga-Yan were about to get marry, a major incident occurred. Man-Hoi was put in jail in Guang Zhou for 9 months for a crime that he didn't commit. While in jail, Man-Hoi was very sad, hurt, and homesick. Man-Hoi was also really mad that he was being accused and convicted of a crime he didn't commit. In truth, it was Kwa-Hoi who framed the whole incident to get Man-Hoi in prison, but of course no one knew about that. As for Nga-Yan, she was also very sad and cried for Man-Hoi days and nights. Everyone was so worried about Man-Hoi that they became careless to Kwa-Hoi. Kwa-Hoi became more jealous each day. When Man-Hoi was in jail, Kwa-Hoi stole everything that belonged to Man-Hoi... Kwa-Hoi even wanted everyone's love. His scheme worked, everyone did love him, however, one person who always hated him was Sandy, Man-Hoi's aunt (Wai-Chung's sister). Once Man-Hoi got out of jail, everything changed. Nga-Yan fell in love with Kwa-Hoi, and everything that once belonged to Man-Hoi now was in Kwa-Hoi's hands. Kwa-Hoi had changed from a good Chinese man to an ambitious Hong Kong businessman. I will not spoil the ending; therefore, I will not tell you what happens in the end, rent the series and watch it yourself, it is worth it. |
Overall comment: I thought everyone did a terrific job. Gigi of course once again did a magnificent job. She handles her role of being a shrewdish and selfish younger sister very well. She speaks loudly and carries a lot of energy in her when arguing with Maggie Siu. Maggie Siu on the other hand was a very quiet, cold, and serious woman. Frankie Lam disappointed me a little, his acting was not as great as Francis Ng's acting. By the way I have to comment on his clothes, not very good looking. However, he was pretty funny in there. Frankie handles his rich boy role very well. Francis is the spot light. He can change his personality without having us notice right away...he changes gradually. I applause Lee Si-Kei for doing a wonderful job after years of retiring. She gives us a great side of how a mother is supposed to be when her son is in trouble. The ending is very good, that will be what you expected. |
