Chapter Six
Gillian braced herself for what she would see as she entered her cousin's
room. When she reached the bed she winced as she took in the swollen face
with marks everywhere.
"Hey Lizzie." Gillian said taking her hand and placing it in hers.
"Lizzie I never wanted this fight to go this far you know. I wanted use to be
like we used to be......... close like sisters. I never dreamt a guy would
split us apart like this." Gillian broke off as tears streamed down her face.
"I am so sorry Lizzie."Gillian told her cousin.
"Gilly..." a small voice choked out.
"Gilly, I'm sorry...." Elizabeth stopped her eyes closing.
Those where Elizabeth's last words as her eyes closed shut forever.
**********************************
When Gillian left Elizabeth's hospital room she went straight to Ryan and
began to cry.
"I'm going to find Eugenia." Dimitri told them.
"Ryan, please take her back to Wildwind, I don't want her alone."Dimitri said.
"Come on Gillian, let's go." Ryan said as they left the hospital.
When they got to Wildwind, Gillian just sat on the couch not moving.
"You know, though we were always fighting I loved her like a sister. She
used to be my best friend, I told her everything." Gillian said as she broke
out of her trance.
"Here you are." Ryan handed Gillian a cup of tea.
"Uncle Roberto and Aunt... oh my, I better call them." Gillian jumped up
from her place on the couch.
Ryan just sat there as she listened to his wife speak rapid Hungarian into
the phone. He looked over to her, taking in the tears streaming down her
face and the messed up hair. All though she was a mess she still looked
beautiful. He watched her hang up the phone and hesitate before picking it
up again and punching in another number.
***************
It still amazed Gillian that she knew the number as well as she did even
after all the years. She listened as the phone rang.... once.... twice and
then it was picked up. A Hungarian greeting was uttered on the otherend and
Gillian began to speak.
"Papa, there was a horrible accident." She translated into Hungarian. After
relaying the details she came to sit beside Ryan.
"Who was the second call?" he asked her wiping a tear from her cheek.
"My father, Elizabeth was his favorite niece." Gillian told him.
"All of them are coming here as soon as they can. A part of me wants to run
as far away from them a I can."
"Gillian, I'm going to stay here with you tonight. I really don't think you
should be alone." Ryan said wiping another tear from her face.
"Thank You." was all she said.
The next morning Gillian was surprised to see she was in Ryan's arms. The
events of last night came back to her. She looked over at Ryan. He was
laying on top of the covers with his clothes from last night on. His arm
rested on her hair.
"Good Morning Princess." he said to her. "You stayed up all night?" she
asked him.
"Until you fell asleep, which was about 2:00 AM." he told her smiling.
"It's almost 10:00, we should get downstairs." she said to him.
"Your right, come one." he replied helping her out of the bed.
When they got dressed and headed toward the stairs, Gillian pausedlistening
to the sounds below.
As they entered the living room, Gillian took Ryan's hand and smiled at him.
"Gillian." A woman in her late 40's called with tears in her voice.
Ryan
looked over at her. The woman's hair was pulled back in a tight bun and
there were tears pouring down her face. She was wearing a black dressan was
leaning on a well dressed man.
"Aunt Alex." Gillian said rushing over to hug her Aunt and then her uncle.
"Aunt Alex, Uncle Robert this is Ryan." Gillian told them pulling Ryan to them.
"I'm sorry about you loss."
"Thank you." The man replied his voice deep with an accent.
Gillian and him spoke for a moment before a male voice boomed through the house.
"Gillian." The man in the expensive suit said.
"Papa." she cried as she ran into her fathers arms.
