Answers questions/problems for you before you email me
Answer: There's one found at The Sandiego Manor.
Problem: I can't download anything.
Answer: Sometimes the site screws up and won't let you download anything. Try again after a few minutes. Or get downloading programs like GetRight (available at CNet.com.)
Wallpaper--Right click and choose "Set As Wallpaper." Or "Save Target As" if you wanna save it but don't want it as wallpaper.
Zipped files--You will need an unzipping utility, such as Winzip.
WAV files--Right click and choose "Save Target As."
Keep in mind that the old versions of Carmen games can be found in abandonware sites, like The Gaming Depot.
Question: How do I play the games?
Answer:
Where in the World/USA--use the mouse. Press the Esc key to decline options.
Where in Europe--up/down arrow keys, space bar to accept. Esc key to decline options.
Question: I need Carmen tapes, will you help me? (State reason why or just don't)
Answer: Sure, here's an extremely basic rundown schedule of how things work.
All year: Will be accepting requests unless my cash reserves dip below $30 US. Best done during late spring to early fall, though.
Summer: Record episodes.
Early Fall: Mail tapes.
Mid-Fall to late Spring/early summer: Slack off and concentrate on school.
Note that if you live outside the US or Canada, I can't help you due to VHS (US and Canda) and PAL (European) differences. (Unless you have a VHS compatible VCR). All episodes except Cupid Sandiego will be taped unless specified.
UPDATE: As of November 2001, I will not accept requests for videos. Unless you are dying of some rare disease, going to be shipped off to Afghanistan to fight Al-Quaeda within a few weeks, planning to stand in line for Star Wars Episode II, going to be dead in a few weeks, fighting the Taliban, going to be sent to prison soon, going to be stuck in line for Spider-Man, hold off your requests. Or go ask someone else. Or plead, kick, whine, whimper, and bang your head on the wall to catch my attention. Or just simply get on your knees and beg for a video. I might relent.
UPDATE #2: As of November 2002, I STILL will not accept requests for videos. If you plan on emailing me for a tape, you'll need to give me a valid reason why you need a Carmen tape. My life is as hectic as it gets and there are times when I am simply too busy worrying about my homework, school work, family life, or personal life. In addition, my VCRs and TV are starting to show their age on video playback--it's been nearly ten years since we last bought a VCR and almost an eternity since my parents last bought a TV. There may come a time when I will start opening requests for videos, but now's not the time.
Question: I can't get "Where in Space" to work with my computer!
Answer: How many times have I gotten this question? Sigh...
If you're running Windows XP, you might need to tweak some settings to get the game running.
1. Right-click ''CARMEN'' and choose ''Properties''.
2. Click on the ''Compatility'' tab. You should see settings for Compatility Mode, Display Settings, and Input Settings.
3. Pick and choose among the Compatility Mode and Display Settings. These two are the ones that may be causing the biggest trouble.
4. Once you've made your choices, try and run the program again. Repeat if necessary.
If you have a previous version of Windows (like Windows 95, 98, NT, 2000, or ME) you might want to surf around other sites that might teach you how to run older DOS-based games on newer DOS-based systems (if you could call Windows 98 all the ay to Windows ME new). I run Windows XP and because I didn't have Where in Space back in the days of Windows 95 and 98, I wouldn't know for sure.
Got a question? Get it answered. Yippie.
