The empress head chef, "King of Chefs" (Chai Kai) and his cooks are fired and accused of something they didn't do. King of Chefs family is all wiped out by a killer (Chang Shan)...without reason? And the only one alive is his months-old nephew (Chan Siu Lung). The nephew grows up and is thought Cooking Kung Fu from his grandpa.

The killer appears again killing the empress old cooks and the King of Chefs knows he's on his list so he prepares his nephew for the worst. But why is the killer demolishing all the cooks...Maybe he doesn't like their food or something? I don't think so pal.

 

This reminds me very much of the Jackie Chan movies "Snake in the Eagle's Shadow", "Drunken Master" and most of all "Fearless Hyena". It has lots of comedy and cool old masters. It has cool music that I've heard on other kung fu movies and in one scene they even use the classic "Jaws" theme.

It has lots of exotic and cool styles and lots of training scenes with bamboo sticks and stuff. What it doesn't have is training while cooking (except for one short scene where Chan somersaults over some woks). From what I had heard I though it would have lots of that, like in "Mystery on Chess Boxing".

Anyway, I saw this movie online at Movie Flix but there it's named "Duel of the Dragon" and is claimed to be a high flying kung fu film. It's all wrong so I was very surprised (and glad) when I noticed it was "Of Cooks and Kung Fu".

 

Chan Siu Lung is obviously inspired (or what you want to call it) by Jackie Chan, he acts just like him with the same faces and everything. Chan Siu Lung is actually known as Jackie Chen too so it isn't a surprise actually. He's very acrobatic and good doing forms.

Chai Kai is cool and plays the role well. He fights mostly with one of those cool Chinese pipes.

Chang Shan is cool too, he's one of those mysterious masters that doesn't show his face until the end. Nice kicks too.
