A Shaolin disciple called little Mute (Jackie) does some rigorous training to pass the Shaolin temple final task before he can become a monk, this being the famous Shaolin hall of wooden men. Learning from different masters he soon becomes very skilled and passes the task. Later he’s sent by a prisoner in Shaolin (Kam Kan), who’s been secretly training him in the art of kung fu, to go to the town and deliver a letter. But it shows that his teacher is a ruthless killer, and was a prisoner in the temple for having killed, amongst others, his father.

 

Awesome movie!!!

This is one of the best kung fu movies I’ve seen, it has leaven me speechless.

It was so intense that the dubbing didn’t bother me, well, except for the shaolin nun’s voice.

This was also Jackie's second film for director Lo Wei and everybody in the kung fu movie bussiness started talking about this little star whom they didn't know.

The plot contains revenge but it’s very original in its own way, and the movie has a special old kung fu feeling that makes this a unique movie.

This masterpiece was almost lost, but luckily they made a copy, so the picture isn't great but it isn't to bad either as the version I have was digitally remastered.

 

Jackie Chan is amazing here and it's probably the best one of his many movies with Lo Wei. He really makes an excellent hero here, one of those heroes that inspires you and makes you cheer. It has lots of training to satisfy those who like that and some awesome forms from Jackie, performed on mountains, cascades etc. Just great!

Kam Kan is not the best fighter you’ll see but he’s an impressive villain and does a great job here.

Yuen Biao cameos (watch for him among the thugs) but doesn't do anything remarkable.

The action director was Tommy Lee.

If you’re a seventies kung fu fan, get your ass to the nearest movie store and buy this excellent Shaolin tale, dubbed or not.
