Yadda yadda, to start off, we're right where we left off before.  They replay the last 8 seconds of the previous episode, minus the music and dialogue.  Hitomi stands there, the Leopard sisters turn and look.  So, to continue...
Eriya: "What's this?  She's just a little girl."
Naria: "Eriya, let's get going."
Eriya: "I know."
Eriya reaches out and shoots her claws at Hitomi.  They wrap around her and grab her away while everyone else looks on.  Well, they're not gonna let her go so easily
Van: "Hitomiii!"
He comes running.  Shrimpy prince vs. kitty mecha
Van: "Let Hitomi go!"
Hitomi: "Stay away!"
Naria: "What an annoying kid."
She lunges forward to mush him... and misses
Naria: "What the?"
Van: "Hitomi!"
Hitomi: "Van!"
They reach out for each other, and everything goes slow-motion and pastel (awww).  However, remember what happened the last time they got close?

Dornkirk's big glowy globe thingy flashes.  All the machines in his lab shut down
Guard: "What happened?"
Sorcerer: "There's a problem with the Fortune Enhancer."
Folken: "What?"
There goes their chance at winning the lottery

Back in Asturia, Eriya swats Van away
Hitomi: "Van!"
Naria: "Eriya, grab him."
Eriya: "Good idea.  Lord Folken will be happy."
Queen Beryl will be very pleased!  Er, sorry, random overused line in Sailor Moon reference ^_^*  Anyway, suddenly, the sun becomes unblocked.  The veins in the sisters' necks glow and they lose power.  Eriya's guymelef collapses and drops Hitomi.  Van runs to her, but Allen gets there first and catches her :P
Hitomi: "Allen."
Eriya: "Sis, I feel terrible."
Naria: "Why is this...?"
The two stand there and tremble in pain for a moment
Folken: "Naria, Eriya, that's enough.  Withdraw."
Naria: "Lord Folken... I'm sorry."
The two take off and leave the kingdom in peace (pieces).  However... that's not the end of that.  Naria's energist glows sporadically
Naria: "What?"
Her guymelef loses power again and starts falling from the sky
Eriya: "Sis!"
Naria: "You must return to Lord Folken!"
Her guymelef catches fire and plummets into the river
Eriya: "Sis!"
She chokes, then continues on without her sister

A little later, soldiers have come upon the wreck of Naria's guymelef.  The Crusade crew is attempting to put out fires it caused
Gaddess: "Guys, don't let up!"

However, it appears that Naria has survived.  She's breathing heavily on the riverbank under a bridge in town
Naria: "Is this part of my luck?"

In the palace courtyard, citizens of Asturia who were injured or rendered homeless during the battle have congregated to set up a shelter of sorts.  Hitomi stands among them
Hitomi: "It's my fault..."
Dryden: "It wasn't your fault."
Looks like he's recovered and is going to be okay
Dryden: "Even if we had stopped the ceremony based on your reading, they still would've attacked.  Besides, I don't trust fortune-telling."
Hitomi: "Dryden..."
Millerna: "Hitomi, it was because I asked you to do that, wasn't it?  I'm sorry.  I'm very sorry for making you suffer.  Will you forgive me?"
Tears well up in Hitomi's eyes, and Millerna comforts her

At Folken's fortress, things aren't looking so good for Eriya.  She's back in the hospital gown on a bed, twitching and breathing irregularly.  Folken is standing over her, concerned, and thinking back on what Dornkirk said
~Dornkirk~: "Why did you have them withdraw, Folken?  Why did you disobey me?"
~Folken~: "I was afraid that at that rate, it would have endangered them."
~Dornkirk~: "It can't be helped.  This is our ideal future."
Eriya: "Lord Folken."
Folken: "I'm sorry, Eriya.  I..."
Eriya: "Lord Folken, it's alright with us."
Folken: "I'm worried about Naria."
Eriya: "Don't worry.  She's all right.  I can tell."
 

Yeah, but this random guard isn't.  Naria leaps up the palace wall and bears her claws at an unsuspecting guard.  She slashes the back of his neck open before he even knows she's there.  She leaps another wall, then collapses against it, clutching her throat.  In the courtyard, Hitomi and Merle are tending to the injured.  Meanwhile, Allen and Van are inside, talking
Allen: "It appears they've discovered Hitomi's ability.  They'll attack again, and they're protected by good fortune.  In fact, I couldn't even get close to them."
Van: "I have a plan.  I'll kill the puppet master of the enhanced fortune soldiers.  The guy who betrayed Fanelia and serves Dornkirk..."
Allen: "The guy...?"
Van: "The Chief of Staff of the Military, Folken Lacour de Fanel."
Ah, sibling rivalry
Allen: "Fanel...?"
Van: "He's... my brother."

Hitomi walks through the castle, attempting to carry some blankets and some dishes all at once, and not being terribly successful.  She climbs a stair, but loses her shoe and trips, and the dishes go clattering to the floor
Hitomi: "Now I've done it."
She goes hopping on one foot down the stair to retrieve her shoe
Hitomi: "Huh?  The shoestring's cut."
She turns around, gasps, and drops her shoe (duhn duhn duuhhhhnnnn...)
A little while later, Merle comes wandering down the stairs and comes upon the mess of blanket and broken dishes left by Hitomi
Merle: "What?"
She find Hitomi's shoe
Merle: "This is Hitomi's.  Was she...?"
She looks out the window as guards set off emergency whistles
Red-Feathered Hat Guy: "Hurry, they're outside the castle!"
Van: "Merle, you stay here.  I'll look for Hitomi with Escaflowne."
Merle: "Lord Van!"

Outside, Naria leaps tall somethings with a single bound, Hitomi slung under her arm
Naria: "Do not resist."

During all this, Allen's being helpful by standing on a bridge and looking mournfully into space
Allen: "Hitomi..."
He flashes back to his sister running of again, then to his mother dying
~Allen~: "Mother, please wake up.  Don't leave me alone!  Mother!"
Back in reality, Allen's breaking down
Allen: "Why... why do people precious to me have to...?"

Naria and Hitomi have hidden themselves on a boat to attempt to escape
Naria: "If you call for help, I'll kill you."
However, Naria goes into spasms again.  During this, Hitomi is able to somehow see into Naria's past.  Her father stabbed to death (eew), and her mother shot with dozens of arrows (eew again).  Hunters are standing over them
~Hunter 1~: "Serves them right."
~Hunter 2~: "Yeah, they interrupted our hunt."
~Beastman~: "You shouldn't have been destroying the forest."
~Hunter 1~: "You're only beastmen..."
Off in the forest, little Naria and Eriya watch their house burn
~Eriya~: "Father..."
~Naria~: "Mother..."
Later, the twins walk together in the rain
~Eriya~: "Don't cry, Berbel.  I'm with you."
~Hunter 1~: "I finally found you."
~Hunter 2~: "Gold and silver twins...  How rare.  They can be sold for a high price."
The two are thrown from a cliff, and are saved by Folken, who flies to their rescue.  It then jumps forward to the near-present when Naria and Eriya get the blood transfusion
Hitomi: "That was...  So that's what happened."

Naria has managed to escape the city with Hitomi in tow.  She has also swiped a horse and cart from somewhere, and is making a desperate dash away from Asturia
Hitomi: "Why are you doing this?  For Van's brother, Folken?"
Naria is surprised she knows Folken, and glares at her
Hitomi: "To repay him for the favor he did?"
Naria: "Shut up!"
Hitomi: "This doesn't make sense!  It's wrong!"
However, at that moment, the cart hits a pothole and goes flying.  Hitomi comes out okay, but Naria appears to have suffered slightly greater injury
Naria: "It's useless to think about escaping."
She gets up, clutching her wrist in pain, struggling to still look intimidating
Naria: "I must... take you to Lord Folken."
Hitomi starts backing away, and Naria reaches for her, revealing that her wrist has been cut open and is bleeding badly.  Hitomi stops and looks at her a moment.  Then, she walks up to Naria, kneels down, and ties a handkerchief around her wrist to stop the bleeding
Hitomi: "What's your name?  Why don't you come back with me?  You won't be able to move around very long in that condition.  I'll explain everything to Allen and the others.  I'm sure... I'm sure they'll understand.  I can tell that you're not a bad person."
Naria starts laughing and turns around
Naria: "Are you telling me to surrender?  Telling me to trust you?"
Hitomi: "Because..."
Naria: "Lord Folken is the only one I can trust."
Naria grabs Hitomi to continue her escape, and Hitomi has another sudden eavesdropping vision
Hitomi: "She thinks of Folken..."

Folken sneezes.  Okay, so I lied. :P (Anime joke.  It often makes for an amusing scene transition, though.  In Japan, it's believed that you sneeze if someone's talking about you behind your back.  If Escaflowne was a more humorous series, it would be a fitting scene.  But, alas.  Er, I digress)
Folken: "The port?"
Dornkirk: "The image of the girl is about to appear.  Dispatch the enhanced fortune soldier at once."
Folken: "But she hasn't fully recovered yet."
Dornkirk: "Don't worry.  The device is functioning normally."
Folken: "But..."
Eriya: "Lord Folken..."
My sister's gotten more screen time than me!  I have to go!
Eriya: "...you don't have to worry about me."
Sure doesn't look like it.  She can't even stand up straight
Eriya: "Please, let me go."
Folken: "Eriya..."

Van is up on Escaflowne, searching for Hitomi from the air (yeah, like you're gonna spot her from that high up.  "Look, that speck looks like Hitomi!")
Van: "Hitomi, where are you?"
He then spots another incoming guymelef.  Darn air traffic!  The tower didn't warn him about this
Van: "An enhanced fortune soldier!"

And Allen has finally started pitching in on the search
Gaddess: "I thought this port would be the only one to use if they tried to escape."
Allen: "Gaddess, get the Crusade ready."
Gaddess: "Aye, sir."
Soldier: "Look!"
What are they looking at?  Good gods, it's a UFO!  Actually, it's Eriya
Eriya: "Dragon, I don't have time to deal with you!"
She buzzes right by Van
Van: "Wait!"
However, Escaflowne's being a bad dragon again, and retracts its wings
Van: "What?!"
Van falls like a rock
Van: "Is this because of their good fortune?"
Van is able to reign Escaflowne enough to get its wings to pop back out.  He skids across the ocean, but makes it back up into the air
Van: "It's no use!  I can't get close to it right now!  In that case... Where are you, Folken?"
He uses the pendant method, and easily spots the cloaked floating fortress
Van: "There you are!"

Back at the port, Naria is attempting to commandeer a boat
Hitomi: "You shouldn't go back to Folken.  Please, go somewhere else with this ship.  Being modified by a strange machine and hurting yourself...  Even if this is for someone you love, it's wrong!"
Naria: "Shut up."
Hitomi: "Definitely... definitely wrong!"
Thank you, Rain Man...  Naria gives Hitomi the smack :P
Hitomi: "Why... why doesn't she understand?"
And... she's having a little flashback to what Varie told her in the Mystic Valley
~Varie~: "Your anxiety, amplified by your fortune telling has chosen a sad result out of many possible futures."
Hitomi: "Anxiety...?"
~Grandma~: "Believe in your wish.  People's wishes will come true."
Hitomi: "Believe in my wish..."
Naria: "Aren't you afraid?  Afraid of what might happen to you?"
Hitomi: "I am, but..."
Naria: "Why?  Why didn't you try to escape?  You could have escaped earlier, or even now."
Hitomi: "Because I trust you.  Because I trust my feelings, that you're not a bad person."
The little conversation is interrupted by Eriya flying down to the boat
Eriya: "Sis!"
Naria: "Eriya!"
Naria grabs Hitomi
Naria: "I'm happy just serving Lord Folken."
Hitomi: "Why...?"

Van is on his way to crash Folken's party
Soldier: "The Dragon's approaching!"
General: "How did he know we were here?"
Van: "Folken!"
Escaflowne crashes through the window, reverts to its mecha form, and draws its sword
Van: "Folken, where are you?!  Show yourself!"
In the meantime, Van starts to randomly destroy things.  This causes the fortress to de-cloak

Back on the ground, Naria, Eriya, and Hitomi see an explosion come from the fortress
Naria: "Lord Folken!"
Hitomi: "Van!"
Eriya: "Sis, hurry!"
Hitomi: "I thought you'd understand!"
Naria suddenly doubles over in pain.  Her face wrinkles and fades in color.  The same happens to Eriya
Hitomi: "Are you alright?"
Naria: "Shut up...  Strange girl..."
She looks at the bandage on her wrist
Naria: "Hitomi... that sounds beautiful."
She gets up to leave with her sister.  Without Hitomi
Naria: "Naria.  It's the name Lord Folken gave me."
Hitomi: "Naria..."
Naria pushes her away
Eriya: "Sis!"
Naria: "If I took you, you'd just be burden."
She jumps into Eriya's guymelef's hand
Naria: "Hurry, Eriya!  Let's go to Lord Folken!"
The guymelef blasts of and heads back to the fortress.  But as it does so, Naria turns back to Hitomi and flashes a little smile
Hitomi: "Naria..."
Allen: "Hitomiiiiii!"
Oh yeah, him.  He's on Crusade, flying overhead
Allen: "Hitomi, are you alright?"

And Van is still causing random damage to the fortress
Van: "Folken, show yourself!"
Folken comes walking out of the smoke, amid the dead soldiers
Folken: "Van..."
Van: "Brother..."
Folken: "Why don't you understand, Van?  The beginning of our new world is approaching.  This is the final battle.  Why don't you understand, Van?"
Van looks quite peeved.  He raises his (Escaflowne's) sword to slice Folken in half.  However, Eriya comes flying in at the last second and knocks Escaflowne over.  Naria jumps off her sisters guymelef to come to Folken's aid
Naria: "Lord Folken, leave him to us."
Folken: "Naria..."
Van: "Enhanced fortune soldiers!"
Eriya: "What is wrong with you?  Lord Folken is so concerned about you!  He's so concerned about you, so why don't you understand?"
Van: "What're you talking about?"
Naria: "Eriya..."
Eriya: "I'll never forgive anyone who makes Lord Folken grieve!  I'll never ever forgive them!"
Escaflowne's energist glows at random again, causing the entire core of the fortress to explode.  Escaflowne falls through the floor, and Naria grabs Folken to shield him from the explosion
Naria: "Lord Folken!"
Escaflowne dragonizes to escape from falling, while the Crusade heads toward the falling fortress
Allen: "The floating fortress is..."
Hitomi: "Van... Naria..."
Escaflowne crashes to the beach below, and Van goes flying off it, but isn't hurt too badly.  He looks up and sees the fortress about to crash into the sea.
Back on the fortress, Naria and Eriya have spent all their energy, and lay dying with Folken
Naria: "Lord Folken, please escape quickly."
Eriya: "Don't worry about us.  We're glad to have met you."
Naria: "And we're dying while you're by our side.  Goodbye, Lord Folken."
Dornkirk's image fades onto the screen behind them, which miraculously still works
Dornkirk: "A reaction... a reaction took place in the artificially enhanced fortune.  However, this experiment was tremendously beneficial.  The answer... I've solved the once unanswered question.  Now, our fate equations are..."
Folken doesn't really care anymore, and angrily throws off his Sorcerer cloak
Folken: "You're wrong!"
Dornkirk: "What...?!"
The display fizzles and explodes, and the floating fortress falls into the ocean.  Van watches this from the beach
Van: "Brother....?!"
However, Folken has escaped the fortress using Eriya's guymelef.  And I do believe that's a real tear we see fall from his cheek rather than his trademark tattoo...
