Setting Things Right-- Chapters 9 & 10

The woman looked at Luke defiantly, and struggled against Methos’ hold on her arms.
“Who are you?” She hissed.
“Anna Devane Scorpio?” Luke asked coming closer to her. It had to be her.
“How do you know my name? Who are you?” She asked frightened and looking around frantically.
“I’m Luke Spencer. How did you survive? Where’s Robert?” Luke asked all at once.
“Luke?” Anna broke free of Methos’ grasp and launched herself into Luke’s arms. “You have to help me.”
Methos shot a confused glance at V, who looked just as puzzled.
Luke detangled himself from Anna’s arms and held her away from him. “What happened, why do you need my help?”
Anna looked around like someone was going to jump out of the bushes. “We can’t talk here.”
“She’s right, we need to get out of here.” Pete said.
“Come on, we’ll go to the cub.” Methos said and ushered the rest towards the car.

There were a few stragglers at the club, but most of the people had left. Laura and Joe were sitting at a table in the back waiting for the group to come back.
Anna had been silent most of the way back, and Luke kept staring at her like he expected her to disappear.  They all walked up to the table and sat down with Laura and Joe.
“Anna?” Laura asked in disbelief.
“You’re Laura?” Anna asked hopefully.
Laura just nodded her head, completely shocked at seeing a ghost.
“Robert told me so much about the both of you.” Anna said as she hugged Laura.
“Speaking of Robert, where is he and how did you survive that explosion? For that matter how did Faison survive?”
“You know he’s alive?” Anna asked.
“Yeah, he kidnapped my son…”
“Hold it!” Methos interrupted; very frustrated at not knowing what was going on. He could tell that Joe and V were about to ask the same question so he just beat them to it. “Would you lot mind explaining this to those of us who do not have the benefit of this history you all seem to share.”
Luke quickly explained about how Robert and Anna were supposed to have died in an explosion along with Faison.
“How did you survive?” Laura asked
“Robert and I weren’t on the boat, but Faison was. I can’t understand how he survived!” Anna said shaking her head.
Methos, Joe, and Pete shared a look.
“I escaped while they were transporting us, but Robert couldn’t get out. For the past seven years I’ve been searching for that maniac.” Anna finished angrily.
“Why didn’t you come back to Port Charles? I would have helped you.” Luke said.
“While I was chasing Faison, he was chasing me. If I had gone back to Port Charles he would have found me and he probably would have killed Robin.” She let out a long sigh and then smiled.
“I know where he’s keeping Robert now, that’s what I found out tonight. By the way what are you doing here? You said something about your son.”
“Faison faked his death and kidnapped him. We just found out yesterday.” Luke explained.
“Oh I’m so sorry. Faison is a monster! He deserves to die!” Anna said passionately
“Well I think we all agree on that subject, but I do suppose I should introduce everyone.”
Luke said gesturing to all the rest of the group.
“Anna Devane Lavery Scorpio, meet V. Ardanowski, Adam Pierson, Joe Dawson, Pete Walker…” Luke looked up to see Amanda approaching the group. “and our resident thief…”
“Amanda?” Anna said with disbelief in her voice.
Amanda looked at Anna and rage covered her face.
“You!”

Lucky sat on his bed in his room. It was late, sometime in the early morning hours, he suspected.
If only he could see her again. Not in a picture, but to hold her and smell her hair. He hated that he was stuck. That there wasn’t something he could do to get out of this situation. If only he had gotten to say good-bye to her, just to see her one last time, and hold her and kiss her. He could see it so clearly.

“I need you, please come back to me.” Elizabeth said grabbing on to his hands.
“I’ve tried and tried and tried.” He said almost disbelieving the hopelessness of the situation. Looking at her almost made him want to risk it all to be with her.
“Come home.” She pleaded.
“Elizabeth I can’t. They’ll kill you.  I won’t put your life on the line.” He said with determination.
“Come back.” She pleaded. It didn’t matter what he said; all she wanted was for him to be with her.
“I thought my Dad would have figured it out. But the fire… they staged it too well. Nobody gets that it was a setup, Elizabeth. That body wasn’t mine.” He assured
“You’ll get out. You have to. You have to get out for me.” She pleaded
“One answer, one question, per chess match, and that’s just if I win. How many matches from here to there? It’s gonna stretch on forever.” Hopelessness seeped into his voice.
“Forever, that’s us. I’ll wait.” She wouldn’t listen to what he was saying.
“I can’t let you.”
“We belong together.”
“Not like this. Not when we’re both stuck. I don’t even have a choice, but listen to me, you do. Do you understand that I would rather die than let you stop your life?”
“You are my life.” She insisted
“We had what we had for a reason.”
“Have!” She corrected.
“We had it so you could move on.”
“Not without you.”
“How many times did you say it? This incredible thing set you free.
“You. It was you.”
“No, it was us.” His face took on an eerily calm smile, like he’d made some kind of decision. “It was amazing. It showed us who we could be.”
“Yes.” She agreed reluctantly.
“Elizabeth… you have to be you.” His eyes pooled up with tears. “This wonderful person who laughs and paints. This magical girl who lights up everything around her, who lights up the entire world.”
“Only when I’m with you.”
“When you’re in love. That’s the secret.”
“I am in love.”
“You will be again.”
“With you.”
“Elizabeth, I’m a memory. You need to be with somebody who can give you a life.” Both had tears streaming down their faces.
“I love you.”
“I know. I love you too. That’s why I’m letting you go.”
Lucky pulled her to him in an amazing kiss. A kiss that said goodbye.

“No!!” Liz shot up in bed covered in a cold sweat and breathing heavily. That all seemed so real. She could almost still feel his lips on hers. None of her dreams about Lucky had effected her this way. The others always felt real, but not like this. She could always tell that the others were dreams, but with this one she wasn’t quite sure. As the words of the conversation started to come back to her she realized what exactly Lucky had said.
“…That body wasn’t mine.”
“They’ll kill you.”
“They staged it too well”

‘Who’s they?’ Elizabeth wondered. Her heart never let her believe that Lucky was dead, and now her head wasn’t letting her believe it either. Her head was swimming with all that the dream might have meant. She never really believed that dreams meant much, but this one had to be a sign of something. She quickly got out of bed, got dressed, grabbed her purse, and climbed out the window. Normally she would go to Luke or Laura with this dream, but since they were gone there was only one person left who could help her.

Amanda stalked quickly towards Anna looking like she was going to take a piece out of the woman. Methos quickly jumped out of his chair and caught Amanda by the waist. Amanda struggled to escape his grasp, but Methos held his grip.
“Let me go!” she hissed.
“Amanda, they told me you died in prison.” Anna said obviously surprised at seeing Amanda.
“Yeah well… Surprise!!… I escaped.” Amanda hissed angrily. She was still struggling against Methos’ grasp.
“Prison? Amanda, what are you talking about?” Methos asked now barely holding on to her. “Calm down and tell us why you want to tear this woman to shreds.”
Amanda slowly stopped struggling but her breaths were still coming out controlled like she was consciencely trying not to explode.
Anna looked stricken and almost guilty as Amanda started her story.

~~~~~~Flashback~~~~~~
London 1984
Amanda landed lightly on her feet and expertly caught a bag when it was dropped from above. A few moments later Anna dropped from above to land beside Amanda. Both women are dressed in black tight fitting clothes and their hair is pulled into tight ponytails.
Anna handed Amanda a spray can, which she sprayed into an entryway. A red laser beam appeared and the women stepped over it and into a large room.
The room was filled with priceless items of art and gems, but at the far end was a glass case. Inside was a very large emerald.
Amanda and Anna stood near a glass case.
“Go on take it.” Amanda said almost unable to contain her excitement.
“I’ll let you do the big one” Anna said smiling at Amanda.
“Oh thank you! You know how I love emeralds!” Amanda gushed and then went about cutting a hole in the glass. She carefully removed the large emerald.
“See, I told you we could do this partner.” Amanda said triumphantly.
“How much is the buyer offering?” Anna asked.
“One and half million American dollars.” Amanda said smiling greedily.
“Amanda I just want you to know that I appreciate all that you’ve done for me. I’ve learned so much from you and you’ve treated me like your family.” Anna whispered quickly.
“Anna what are you talking about? You sound like you’re saying goodbye.” Amanda said completely baffled.
Anna’s eyes drifted to the floor. “I am.”
Just then all the lights in the room came on and the room was quickly filled with men carrying guns.
They grabbed Amanda and put her hands in handcuffs behind her. “You have the right to remain silent…”
Amanda was staring straight at Anna. A man had come up to her and was congratulating her on a job well done.
“What’s going on?” Amanda demanded.
The man turned to her and smiled. “We finally caught you, with the help of one of our best operatives.”
“Operatives?” Amanda said with a sinking feeling in her stomach.
“Anna is with us, you have just been outsmarted by the WSB.” The man said smugly.
“No! Anna how could you do this? How could you?!” Amanda shouted as she was dragged from the room.
~~~~~End Flashback~~~~~~

“I took her in. I taught her everything I knew about jewels. Cut, purity, how to “obtain” them legally and illegally. And that little traitor was working for the WSB the whole time!” with that sentence Amanda’s anger rose again and she lunged at Anna.
This time she got her fingers around the woman’s throat before Methos and Luke pried her off.
“Let me go! Just give me five minutes with her!”
“Amanda I’m sorry” Anna said quietly.
“Sorry? That’s supposed to make it better? I took you in and I trained you and I treated you like a sister! And that was the thanks I got!” Now Amanda looked more hurt than angry. “I’m on the jewelry heist of the year and I get busted by a bunch of spooks cause my partner worked for them! I trusted you!”
“I didn’t have a choice.” Anna pleaded.
“I don’t want to hear your excuses!” Amanda turned and walked away from the group.
Methos caught up with her and stopped her.
“Amanda wait,” He turned her towards him and lowered his voice so the others couldn’t hear. A small smile crossed his lips “You’re just angry because she fooled you, am I right?”
“Methos I was in prison; you know how I hate prisons!” She whispered fiercely.
Methos rolled his eyes. “It was what, a maximum security women’s detention center? You’ve been in worse. You’ve seen the inside of a dozen dungeons worse then anything these people have ever imagined. So don’t give me the “oh poor Amanda” story cause I’m not buying it. This is about your wounded pride.”
Amanda was about to protest when she thought better of it.
“So what if it is? I’m not allowed to be mad that that little sneak tricked me? I should have seen that coming!” She said angrily.
“Just because you’re 1200 years old doesn’t mean you know everything.” Methos said smiling devilishly.
“Oh so when I’m 5000 years old I will be privy to the secrets of the universe?” Amanda said sarcastically.
“No, I don’t know everything. I only know most things.” He said succeeding in getting a rise out of Amanda.
“You’re impossible.”
Methos gave a devilish grin, “Thank you.”

(*note: I don’t know if you can use *69 on international calls but let’s pretend you can :)

Nikolas was stirred by a loud banging noise. At first he thought it was part of his dream, in which Katherine was chasing him and he was hiding in Lucky’s boxcar and he had shut the door. Later it would occur to him that he didn’t even know you could shut the door or even if it had one. The banging grew louder and drew him into consciousness. He awoke with a start and then realized that he could still hear the banging. He groaned when he realized it was the door and walked downstairs to answer it, desperately hoping it wasn’t Katherine.
As soon as he opened the door he was almost knocked down by the figure.
“Elizabeth what are you doing here?” He asked sleepily.
“I know this is crazy, and I know you won’t believe me. But please just hear me out.” She rambled
“Elizabeth calm down and just tell me what happened.” He said slowly. His senses were still a little dulled from sleep.
“It’s hard to explain, but Lucky’s alive.” She proclaimed with the most wonderful smile on her face.
“What?” Nikolas said weakly.
“He’s alive Nikolas. I know it!”
“Elizabeth that’s impossible. I think you should sit down.” He said thinking that obviously she wasn’t in her right mind.
“Don’t treat me like I’m crazy Nikolas, I know what I’m talking about.” She protested as he pushed her gently onto the couch.
“Now why don’t you tell me what happened to make you think this.” He thought that maybe if he knew what brought this on he could help her understand that Lucky was gone. He thought she had been doing fine, but maybe she was doing too well.
“I had a dream. We were in “Kelly’s”, Lucky and I, and he was saying that the fire was a set-up. And he kept saying that “they” took him and that “they” were going to hurt me. And then he said goodbye Nikolas. He told me to get on with my life, cause he would never be able to escape, or something like that.” She ran her hand through her hair and leaned back on the couch.
“Elizabeth it was a dream, it wasn’t real…” He tried to convince her but she interrupted him angrily.
“I know it was a dream Nikolas!” She shouted. “But I also know that Lucky is alive somewhere.”
“Elizabeth…”
“And I have a hunch that Luke and Laura know too.” She said quickly.
“Elizabeth that’s ridiculous!”
“Is it? I mean, they both leave at the same time, without warning and without telling anyone where they’re going. OK, so it’s not so strange for Luke to disappear like that, but Laura? She wouldn’t just leave without telling anyone if it wasn’t important.”
Nikolas thought about it and he had thought it was strange that the both of them had left so suddenly at the same time.
“Can you find out where she is?” her voice broke Nikolas out of his thoughts.
“I don’t see how I could”
“Don’t you Cassadines have traces on all your phones?” Elizabeth asked in exasperation.
Nikolas chuckled slightly. “No, just my father.”
Elizabeth frowned then her face brightened as a thought occurred to her, “Has anyone called you since Laura did?”
“No, I don’t think so.”
Elizabeth jumped up and picked up the phone.
“What are you doing?” Nikolas asked confused.
“Dialing “*69” It will connect you to the last number that called you”
Nikolas just looked at her puzzled.
“The number that called you last is an international number, if you wish to continue press 1” The computer generated voice chimed
“It international, is it OK?” she asked Nikolas even thought she knew he’d say yes.
Nikolas just waved for her to continue.
A few moments passed and then the phone began to ring.
“L’hotel la Rue Amercain.” A polite voice rang over the phone.
“Um… Do you speak English?” Elizabeth asked nervously.
“Anglais? Oui. How may I help you?”
“Oh thank you. Um… could you tell me where you’re located?”
“Oh, yes we’re on La Rue Americain in the Latin Quarter of Paris.”
“Thank you.” Elizabeth said and quickly hung up the phone.
“So how quickly can we get to Paris?”
