Lucky walked into the tiny and cramped apartment and dropped his bag unceremoniously on a chair. "This is the best place they could find?" "Oh come on it's better than that potato hut we were in in Lodz and it smells a little nicer too." Frisco said grinning. "And besides this is only temporary, once you talk to Sonny we can maybe move into better diggs. Then you can have your little ‘coming out’ party." Frisco saw the look of fear and nervousness that shot across Lucky's face. "You're not still nervous about this are you?" "Nah, I just wish we could have this over and done with before I came home, and everyone would be safe." "Well sometimes things just don't work out the way you want them to." Frisco said grimly. “Frisco, what if we don’t catch Faison. We’ve been trying to get him for five years and yeah we’ve been close a few times but he’s still out there!” “Well Robert and I have been after him for longer than that, but yeah I know what you mean. If we don’t get him soon The Powers That Be will send somebody else to take care of him, probably Section One.” Lucky shuddered. “Uh, those guys give me the creeps. I sure am glad I turned down that ‘employment opportunity’ they offered me.” “Me too buddy, me too.” “Well boss, what now?” Lucky said humorously. “Well I will go to Sorel’s and plant a bug. Hopefully we can get some information that way. And you…” “I will go and surprise Sonny.”

“Elizabeth I…” “I’m really not in the mood to talk to you ‘Mom’.” Liz said as she tried to brush past her. “Liz wait!” “Look, Alexis Davidovich Davis Cassadine Jacks Corinthos… whatever your name is this week, I really don’t need a mother/daughter chat right now.” Liz said showing her frustration. “Hey, I haven’t changed my name in over a year, and I don’t think I’ve had as many names as some of the women in this town.” Alexis said cracking a small smile. “Liz sighed and rolled her eyes. She knew Alexis was making an effort, but today she really didn’t care. “I have to go.” Liz said shortly and started to walk away. “Elizabeth wait…” Alexis said quickly, not wanting her to leave. “What?” Liz said through gritted teeth and spun around. As she faced Alexis a slow drizzle started to fall from the gray clouded sky. “Um… why don’t I take you out to lunch?” Alexis said in a rush. She was grasping at anything to get her daughter to stay. Liz sighed and made a conscious effort not to say some snide remark or rude comment. “I’m really in kind of a hurry.” “Oh come on… I’ll take to you the ‘Grill’ and we can wait until this rain stops.” Alexis said glancing quickly at the sky above, which was quickly darker signaling that the rain was only going to get worse. “I really have to get back to ‘Kelly’s’.” Liz said trying to yell at Alexis. Of course that didn’t last long. “But…” Alexis tried again but Liz cut her off. “Look, I really don’t have the time or the energy today to deal with my sometimes mother and her conscience.” Liz said caustically and stalked away from Alexis and headed for her bike. Alexis stood there watching as her daughter walked away… again. She had known from the start it was going to be an uphill battle winning Liz’s trust. Alexis know what had happened to her and how much she’d suffered, and Alexis knew she was still suffering somewhere deep in her soul. But Alexis had spent half of her life searching for her daughter, and she wasn’t about to give up on her now.
Liz had broken into a run as soon as she’d been out of Alexis’ sight. She skidded to a halt next to her bike and by now the drizzle was now steadily falling rain. Her breath seemed to burn in her lungs and she leaned on her bike to steady herself. She closed her eyes and pushed away the fear and the anguish she always felt. She felt her chest loosen and her breathing return to normal. She opened her eyes and all her demons were gone. She looked up at the sky and groaned when the lightning streaked across the sky. Great, this is just what I need. She thought sarcastically.

“Johnny, go on home. Alexis and Francis should be back soon.” Sonny said unlocking the door to his penthouse. “You sure boss?” Johnny said apprehensively. There had been three attempted hits on Sonny in the last two months so all the guards were on edge. Sonny had been sure that Sorrel didn’t have the nerve to attempt that many hits, but the only thing that kept him thinking that it could be Sorrel was that nobody had touched Alexis. Sonny knew he didn’t have the guts to harm Alexis. “Go on Johnny, I’ll be fine.” “OK Boss.” Sonny opened the door as he heard the elevator doors shut behind Johnny. He walked in and tossed his coat over the back of the chair at the desk, not bothering to turn on the lights. He could hear the rain driving into the window behind him. Lightning illuminated the room for a few moments as Sonny poured himself a drink. Along with the attempts on his life someone had succeeded in delaying or stealing five big shipments in the last two months. The fact that this had all started at about the same time had Sonny thinking that there might be a new player in town. Well whoever it was, someone new or Sorrel, they were out to hurt both the coffee business and his illegal activities. As Sonny turned around and walked towards the window a flash of lightning cast light on a shadowy figure near the window. In the space of two seconds Sonny’s drink was in a pool of glass, ice, and liquor on the floor and his gun was in his hand. The figure just stayed still. “Who are you!?” Sonny shouted his gun trained on the intruder. “What do you want?!” The figure slowly walked towards Sonny, with the smoothness of a jungle cat. “Stop right there! Hands up!” Sonny shouted, his adrenaline flowing like a river. The intruder raised his in a helpless gesture, but kept walking. “Oh come on Sonny, you don’t recognize an old friend?” The man said, his grin coming through in his voice. Sonny’s mouth dropped opened as the voice registered, but his gun stayed steady. “Lucky?” “In the flesh.” Lucky said grinning grimly. For a split second Sonny thought that he was finally going insane. He’d been taking medication for his manic depression for the past two years, but now he was thinking that maybe he was just plain crazy. He shook his head, as much to clear those thoughts out of his head as to make the ghost in front of him disappear. Almost as if reading his thoughts Lucky said in a soothing voice. “It’s okay Sonny, I’m real.” “How...” Sonny whispered as all of the air left his lungs. Lucky smiled sadly. “It’s a long story… but I’m here now cause I need your help.” “Anything.” Sonny said automatically and lowered his gun. There was a very short list of people that always got that response. Luke, Laura, Jason, Liz, Carly, Michael, Virginia, and Alexis. Up until more than five years ago Lucky had been on that list, but even if Sonny didn’t understand it he would help Lucky anyway he could. He owed him that much. “Thank you Sonny.” Lucky said grinning genuinely and then the grin was gone and Lucky’s expression was all seriousness. “I need to know if you’ve gotten an offer to ‘transport’ some diamonds from Europe.” Confusion and skepticism crossed Sonny’s face. “But why would you…” “I will tell you why, but first you have to answer my question.” Lucky said looking straight into Sonny’s eyes. “Trust me Sonny.” Every instinct Sonny had was screaming at him to not give a straight answer, not to confirm or deny anything. But despite all that Sonny answered honestly. “No.” “Damn!” Lucky swore under his breath. Sonny could almost see the wheels in Lucky’s mind turning at a blinding speed. “Have you had any unusual activities with your organization?” “No Lucky. No more questions till I get some answers.” Sonny looked Lucky over for a second and decided on what had been nagging on his instincts. “You’re obviously some kind of cop, but I’m wondering why you would come to me openly. Why?” Lucky laughed and for a moment his serious and sad features melted into a grin that almost lit up his face the way it used to. “I was figuring you would pick up on that. I always wondered how that Agent Scott woman had gotten past you.” Sonny smiled grimly. “Well she didn’t walk into my penthouse in clothes that screamed ‘cop’.” Lucky looked down at his charcoal gray suit and black overcoat and he had to admit he did look a bit obvious. “I guess it doesn’t seem as obvious to me when everyone around me dresses the same way.” “You’re not FBI are you?” Sonny asked scrunching up his nose disdainfully; already knowing that Lucky wasn’t a Fed. “Eww, I’m offended.” Lucky said acting hurt. Sonny laughed. “So if you’re not FBI then what are you?” At that moment Alexis opened the door and walked in. The two men stood still and she didn’t even notice Lucky. Her hair was very wet and she looked frustrated. “Oh I’ve had the longest day. I saw Liz again today, and I’m really worried about her. I know, I know when am I not worried about her. Why wasn’t Johnny at the door?” Alexis rambled, putting her briefcase down on the desk and taking off her coat. “And why in the world are the lights off?” She said reaching over and flipping the switch. She gasped at the young man that was standing in her living room. Lucky grinned. “Hello Mrs. Corinthos.” “Lucky?” Alexis stammered and looked to her husband for help. “Yeah that’s pretty much the same place I am Honey.” Sonny said shrugging his shoulders. Alexis had her hand over her mouth and her eyes were glistening with tears. She walked quickly over to Lucky and hugged him tight. She knew she hadn’t really known Lucky before the fire but this young man was so important to most of the people to Alexis’ life. All she could think about was how happy Liz would be, and how maybe now everything would be better. Sonny was smiling at his wife. He knew exactly what she was thinking. Lucky chuckled slightly. “Howdy Natasha.” Alexis pulled back from him quickly. “You sounded too much like your father. Don’t do that to me again!” She said swatting him on the shoulder. She reached up and gently touched his face, almost to make sure he was real. “Oh Lucky, Luke is going to be so happy, and Elizabeth… she’s needed you so much.” Alexis felt tears pooling in her eyes again. She shook her head and walked towards the phone. “I need to call her, she’ll be so…” “No!” Lucky interrupted frantically. “You can’t tell anyone I’m here, not yet.” “Lucky I can’t keep this from her. She’s my daughter!” “I know.” Lucky looked at their startled faces. “I’ve been keeping tabs on everyone here.” “How?” “I have my ways.” Lucky said grinning cryptically. Alexis frowned at Lucky. “Then you must know that it’s taken me a long time to even gain a little of her trust. If I don’t tell her she’ll never trust me again.” Lucky reached into his pocket and pulled out a five-dollar bill and handed it to Alexis. “I hear-by hire you as my lawyer and under attorney/client privilege you can’t tell anyone.” Alexis smirked. “I don’t have to take your case if I don’t want to. And why would you need a lawyer anyway?” “Hey, coming back from the dead can be tricky. I’m gonna need a lawyer to handle all the paperwork.” Lucky looked directly into her eyes and his voice was suddenly filled with emotion. “Please Alexis, I will tell her soon, but I can’t now for her safety. Believe me it’s eating me up inside knowing how much she’s hurting, it’s been eating me up for over five years.” Alexis saw the pain in his eyes and knew that Lucky should be the one to tell her, he had to show himself to her. “Okay, but you better tell her soon.” Alexis said sternly and she snatched the five-dollar bill out of his hand. Lucky smiled. “Thank you.” Alexis looked from Sonny and back to Lucky suspiciously. “Now I want to know what you two are up to.” She said sternly. Sonny shrugged innocently. “Don’t look at me, I’m not up to anything, he’s the one that walked into my penthouse and started asking questions.” “What questions?” Alexis said crossing her arms across her chest and going directly into lawyer mode. “Lucky was just about to explain exactly what kind of cop he is.” Sonny said looking at Lucky. “So if you’re not FBI then what are you?” “WSB.” Lucky said quietly. “You’re a WSB agent?” Alexis said astounded. Lucky nodded. “What the heck does the WSB want with my legitimate coffee business? I thought they had bigger fish to fry.” Sonny said reverting to his usually anti-cop routine. “Sonny I’ve known you for too long so don’t give me that song and dance about being legit.” Lucky said seriously. “We do have bigger fish to fry though and we’re not here to you. I’m after a man named Ceasar Faison.” “Faison?” Sonny said thinking, and then finally registered. “Yeah that Faison.” Lucky said. “A couple other agents and myself have very personal reasons for going after him. I’ve been working to catch him for five years now.” “But the fire…” Sonny started, but Lucky cut him off. “The fire was a setup. Faison faked my death and kidnapped me. He had me for about five months before the WSB rescued me. And the rest, as they say, is history. Sonny knew there had to be more to this story, but he also knew Lucky probably wouldn’t tell him. “OK so what do I have to do with Faison?” Sonny asked. “I can’t tell you that. I just need to know if he ever contacts you or if anything strange is going on with your organization.” “Now wait a minute,” Alexis said stepping between Sonny and Lucky, and going into full lawyer mode. Lucky might have be a friend of Sonny’s, but he’s been gone for five years and he was still a cop. “Sonny doesn’t have to answer any questions. He hasn’t been brought up for any charges and in fact hasn’t even been under suspicion for over a year now.” “Alexis we’re not after Sonny. The WSB is not the FBI, we know somebody has to be in control and right now Sonny’s the best man for the job. We’re only out to get Faison. I just need to know if something strange has been going. Threats, any move on your territory that might not be Sorel. Anything.” Sonny looked questioningly at Alexis and she just shrugged, signaling that it was up to him. “There’s been a few attempts on my life lately, but that’s probably just Sorel. It was never anything that my guards didn’t pick up on right away, and Alexis or anyone else was never threatened.” “It might not be Sorel.” Lucky said talking almost to himself. He walked to the fireplace and leaned against the mantel. “I’ll have to check with my partner, but I’ll let you know if I have any news.” Lucky quickly strode towards the door. “What if Faison contacts me?” Sonny asked as Lucky opened the door. “I’ll contact you in a couple of days.” “Lucky!” Alexis called out before he disappeared. “Please tell Elizabeth soon.” “Don’t worry.” Lucky said and he was gone. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Frisco walked up to the door and hesitated. All of those years of training and experience of being calm and collected in high-pressure situations flew right out the door at the prospect of seeing his ex-wife. His palms were sweating and he had the inexplicable desire to turn and run the other way. Almost on it's own his hand reached out and knocked on the door.
His heart pounded while he waited. He didn't even know what kind of reception he was going to get. He figured Georgie wouldn't remember him much, but he wondered about Maxie. He sent cards and birthday presents, but he knew it wasn't enough. But that was all Faison would let him do. The last time Frisco had screwed up Faison had kidnapped Felicia. It was a warning; it showed that Faison could get to Felicia anytime he wanted. Frisco knew it was stupid to go see them in Texas, but he couldn't help it. He missed his girls so much.
The door finally opened and Frisco smiled down at the small golden-haired angel that looked so much like her mother. She's not so small his mind reminded him. Georgie eyed him suspiciously with just a hint of recognition in those clear blue eyes. "Georgie! Honey, who's at the door?" Felicia's voice called from somewhere inside the house. "I think it's Daddy." Georgie said, her eyes widening as she recognized the man in all the pictures her mother had shown her. "What on earth is Mac doing..." Felicia stopped cold as she rounded the corner and caught sight of the man at the door. "Frisco." She gasped as all the air left her lungs. She gripped the doorjam for support when he smiled. "Hi Princess." Frisco said softly. He couldn't take his eyes off her. That old crumpled picture in his wallet didn't do her justice that’s for sure. "Georgie, go get your sister. Tell her your father is here to see you two." Felicia said as the young girl disappeared. "Um... uh... come in, sit down... would you uh.... Like something to drink?" Felicia stammered. "No I'm fine." Frisco said as he sat down on the couch. "Does Mac see the girls much?" He had heard her say his name earlier. "Yeah he sees them a lot. He's been a great father to them." Felicia saw Frisco wince a little at that. "Even after the divorce." She said the last part quietly. "That's good that you're still friends." "I never said that. We didn't exactly part on the greatest of terms." Frisco chuckled softly. "Yeah I know." "What's so funny?" Felicia said angrily. "Oh nothing much, just the image of you traipsing off on adventures with Luke Spencer is amusing to me." Frisco said grinning. "It's not funny Frisco. That's what broke up my marriage." "No, what broke up your marriage was that you wanted adventure and he didn't." "Frisco I cheated on my husband!" He made a dismissive guesture. "You didn't cheat on him. You and Luke kissed and worked up a whole lot of sexual tension but it wasn't anything that couldn't have been worked out. You shouldn't have hidden it from him and lied to him, but that wasn't the main problem either. It never had anything to do with Luke. You were looking for the adventure Mac couldn't give you long before Luke ever came into the picture." “Mac and had plenty of adventures.” Felicia protested. “Before you got married. And look at how you got married. It was one big adventure to you and you know it. Pretending to be in love, all that excitement of catching Jimmy and Tess. You just didn’t want to stop the adventure.” Frisco said seriously. “That is not true! I married Mac because I loved him. We just couldn’t admit our feelings because we were afraid that it was going to end the friendship.” Felicia said, her eyes flashing with anger. Partly cause she knew he was at least somewhat right. “Yeah you two were best friends.” Frisco chuckled softly. “We never did the friendship thing did we? You were either annoying me to death or driving me up the wall making me want to kiss you.” Frisco was staring intently into her eyes and Felicia found herself unable to turn away. Before she could say anything thundering footsteps were heard coming down the stairs. Maxie came to a halt as she saw her father. “Oh my G-d.” Maxie gasped. Of course she hadn’t actually expected to see her father in her living room. She had just thought Georgie was joking. “See I told you I was telling the truth.” Georgie said irritably, obviously having just had an argument with her sister. Frisco stood up quickly and was actually left breathless at the sight of both of his baby girls standing there, not at all babies anymore. “Wow, you girls are so beautiful. You look exactly like your mother.” Frisco said smiling. Felicia couldn’t help but smile a little. Georgie grinned winningly, but Maxie narrowed her eyes suspiciously. “Why are you here?” Maxie asked in a quiet and caustic voice. “Maxie!” Felicia said in a warning tone. “I’m here on a case.” Frisco said, slightly hurt by the tome of his daughter’s voice, but he knew he deserved it. “After this case is closed I’m moving back here.” He looked back and saw how surprised Felicia was. Georgie looked happy but Maxie continued to look skeptical. “Really?” Georgie said timidly. “Yeah.” Frisco said, he was sad that his daughters were so doubtful of him. “Nobody’s gonna keep me away from my girls anymore.”

Lucky walked out of Harborview Towers and frowned at the lightning filled sky. He pulled his trench coat tighter around him and turned up the collar. He put on his old leather hat that Robert had given him a few years ago. Robert would always laugh and call him “Bogie” when he wore it and his trench coat. Lucky supposed he did look kind of silly, but right now he really didn’t care. He wanted to try and keep somewhat dry, but mostly he didn’t want to be recognized. He knew he’d eventually have to come out of the “death closet” but just not yet. He needed to find Frisco and find out if Sorel had had any contact with Faison. He figured Frisco had gone to find Felicia and his girls. Not that Lucky blamed him; he knew first hand how much Frisco missed them. Lucky meant to go back to the apartment to wait for Frisco, but somehow he found himself standing on the edge of the courtyard in front of ‘Kelly’s’. He walked forward a couple of steps so he could see in the window. Inside he saw his father, Jason, and who he figured was Roy Dilucca all sitting at the counter. Bobbie and Tammy were standing behind the counter laughing a chatting with them. Lucky could tell that his father was being his usual self and flirting with Tammy. Someone came down the stairs, walked over to the counter, and kissed Bobbie on the cheek. Sly? When had he come back to town? Lucky thought to himself. Lucky returned his attention to his father, and his heart restricted at the dead look in his eyes. Almost haunted. That was one of the two things he regretted most about staying away from Port Charles. Lucky started at the sound of approaching footsteps. He quickly backed away from the window and concealed himself behind the corner of the brick building. He pulled his hat low over his face and watched the courtyard. All of his instincts were screaming at him to run. This is too dangerous! You could get recognized! Just as he was about to listen to the voices in his head, he saw who the footsteps belonged to. She came running around the corner at the opposite end of the courtyard. In her haste to get out of the rain her purse snagged on a chair and dropped to the ground. Lucky was frozen to the ground. He couldn’t move; he could barely breathe. She was the other big regret he had. His ‘death’ had caused so much pain in his life, well maybe not the cause but that’s what was the start of it all. And he always felt that if he had just been there things would have turned out differently. He knew how angry and bitter she’d become and how closed off she was. His father and Jason were the only ones she let even get close to her. Lucky was thankful for that, but his heart ached because he knew first hand what a kind, giving, and loving person she was. And it was his fault she was like this, or at least that’s how it was in his mind. Even through all the guilt that clouded his mind still one thought rang true in his mind. She’s still so beautiful.
As she bent down to pick up her purse and it’s scattered contents. Lucky could see that he was completely and totally drenched. A hazard of owning a motorcycle instead of a car he guessed. Suddenly Elizabeth tensed and looked up slowly. Lucky took an involuntary step back and his boot made a scrapping sound on the concrete. She stood up quickly and her eyes flashed with more fury than fear. But Lucky could still see the fear buried deep in her eyes. He quickly turned and walked away from Kelly’s.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Who’s there?” Elizabeth yelled into the night. She could see a dark figure move and walk away from ‘Kelly’s’. She waited a few moments to make sure he was gone and then picked up her things and stuffed them back in her purse. She still couldn’t ignore the nagging chill going down her spine. It wasn’t the familiar grip of fear; it was something she hadn’t felt in a long time. She shrugged off the feeling and made her way into the diner. All the anger that she had felt earlier in the day came back to her in a rush, and pushed the remnants of the weird feeling she had gotten outside out of her mind. She stalked purposely over to the counter and tapped Jason on the shoulder. “Liz you’re soaked!” Jason said as her hair dripped water on her arm. Liz pushed a wad of slightly damp money into his hand and stomped angrily up the stairs Jason looked down at the money and frowned. Bobbie smiled sadly and followed Tammy into the back. Luke sighed heavily. “It breaks my heart every time I see that girl. She used to be so happy she’d light up a room.” Jason’s face contorted into a pained expression. Luke looked at him and recognized that look. “Jason, it’s not your fault, lots of things had happened to her.” “You know that she wouldn’t be like this if…” Luke nodded and finished for him. “If Lucky was alive.” Jason nodded. “Yeah if Lucky was alive she wouldn’t have needed me after the fire. And if Lucky was alive she wouldn’t have found me in the snow half-dead. And if Lucky was alive she wouldn’t have slept with me and she wouldn’t have lost the baby. And if Lucky was alive he would have been able to protect her.” Jason stood and walked out of the diner quickly. Luke turned to Roy and shrugged. “I think he’ll always blame himself.”
Desperado Why don't you come to you senses? You been out there riding fences for so long now Oh you're a hard one And I know you've got your reasons These things that are pleasing you Will hurt you somehow
Don't you draw the queen of diamonds boy She'll hurt you if she's able The queen of hearts is always your best bet Now it seems to me some fine things have been laid upon your table But you only want the ones you can't get
Lucky stood on the docks staring out over the water. The raindrops were making ripples in the water and it almost looked like the water was churning. A few raindrops made their way into his coat and dribbled down his back. Seeing Elizabeth tonight had been more painful than he thought it would be. He knew he had caused her a lot of pain, if indirectly, but to see it in her eyes made it so real. To read the reports and see pictures was one thing, but to see how all that pain had changed her was a pain he didn't know he could feel Fear struck into his bones at the possibility that she had changed so much that she wouldn't love him anymore. That fear made him want to get on a plane and go away. Anywhere, Moscow, Warsaw, maybe Paris, it wouldn't matter. Section One might give him a job; they would hide him from the WSB. He could just disappear and nobody would ever look for him. He would almost rather live without her, thinking there was a possibility that she still loved him, than walking around in this world knowing she felt nothing for him. Who was he kidding? He would give anything just to be near her, even if she would never love him again.
Desperado Oh you ain't getting' no younger You pain and your hunger, they're driving you home And freedom, oh freedom, well that's just some people talking You prison is walking through this world all alone
Don't your feet get cold in the wintertime? The sky won't snow and the sun won't shine It's hard to tell the nighttime from the day You're losing all your highs and lows Ain't it funny how the feeling goes away?
Frisco drove through the streets of Port Charles wondering why he came back. Because there's a job to do, a case to solve, a 'bag guy' to send to jail. One voice would say. But then another voice, a wiser voice would say. Because you love her. You will always love her, and you will gasp your dying breath wishing she was still yours. Frisco closed his mind to those thoughts as his eyes strained to see through the rain hitting the windshield. He turned up the windshield wipers and concentrated on his daughters. He couldn't believe how much they'd grown. Georgie was 12 now and he hadn't even seen her take her first step. At least he'd gotten to have that small joy with Maxie. Georgie had at least seemed happy to see him. She hadn't seen how much pain Felicia was in when he left. No Maxie got to see that. That's probably why Maxie only had narrowed suspicious eyes when it came to him. She was 17 and didn't need him anymore. At least that's what he thought she was trying to convince herself. They would both probably always think of Mac as a father and Frisco was thankful for that, but now all he wanted was his family back. Faison had taken too much away from him already, and Frisco wasn't going to give up this time without a fight.
Desperado Why don't you come to your senses? Come down from your fences, open the gate It may be raining, but there's a rainbow above you You better let somebody love you, let somebody love you You better let somebody love you, before it's too late
