Santa baby, slip a sable under the tree, for me
I've been an awful good girl
Santa baby, and hurry down the chimney tonight

Santa baby, an out-of-space convertible too, light blue
I'll wait up for you dear
Santa baby, and hurry down the chimney tonight

Think of all the fun I've missed
Think of all the fellas that I haven't kissed
Next year I could be oh so good
If you'd check off my Christmas list
Boo doo bee doo

The sound of Madonna singing filled Emily’s room. She hummed along as she
finished up wrapping Christmas presents. The last one she was working on
was for Juan. A smile came to her face as she thought about him. She always
smiled when she thought of Juan. Everything was going great between them.

For the first time in a long time Emily felt special. Juan always looked at
her like she was the only person on the earth. The feeling was something
she never felt before and she loved it. They were about to spend their
first Christmas together. Juan’s father had been nice enough to let him
stay in Port Charles for Christmas. She couldn’t wait to see him tomorrow.
She hoped he would like his present.

She shook her head. What was she thinking? Of course he would like it. It
was perfect. He was going to love it. She smoothed down the last piece of
tape then placed the finished box under her desk where she was hiding the
rest of her gifts.

Then she stood up and stretched. She was due downstairs in an hour for
Christmas Eve dinner but she wasn’t up to sitting around the table looking
at the Quartermaine faces when the only face she wanted to see was Juan’s.
But she already made plans to meet up with him tomorrow bright and early to
exchange gifts.

Santa honey, I wanna yacht and really that's
Not a lot
I've been an angel all year
Santa baby, and hurry down the chimney tonight

Santa cutie, there's one thing I really do need, the deed
To a platinum mine
Santa cutie, and hurry down the chimney tonight

Emily looked around her room before grabbing her hairbrush. A smile slowly
curved on her face and she turned up her radio. She struck a pose and began
to sing along with the song. She was in a great mood. It was Christmas
time!

Santa baby, I'm filling my stocking with a duplex, and checks
Sign your 'X' on the line
Santa baby, and hurry down the chimney tonight

Come and trim my Christmas tree
With some decorations bought at Tiffany's
I really do believe in you
Let's see if you believe in me
Boo doo bee doo

Outside her window Juan shook his head and grinned at the sight of his
girlfriend dancing around her room. She would kill him if she knew he was
out there watching her. He chuckled to himself and tapped her window.

He laughed harder as the sound of him knocking caused her to jump up
startled. She rushed over to the window and threw it open. “Juan! You
scared me. What are you doing out there?”

Juan climbed in and said. “I came to see you, of course.”

“You couldn’t have come through the front door?” Emily started to brush
away the snow that had accumulated on his coat.

“And risk not being let in?” He shook his head. He pulled off his gloves.
“I’d much rather come this way.”

“But it’s snowing!”

“It’s not snowing anymore.” He interjected.

“You could have slipped and fell. And being out in the snow could get you
sick.” Emily fussed.

Juan slowly smiled at her and cupped her face. “I like it when you worry
about me. It makes me feel special.”

“You are special.” Emily told him. “But your hands are *cold*.” She took
his hands in hers and rubbed them warm. “Do you want to stay for dinner?”

He shook his head. “No, I want you all to myself. Grab your warmest coat.”

She narrowed her eyes. “Where are you taking me?”

“It’s a surprise.” He said secretively.

“What kind of surprise?” Emily drilled him.

“I worked very hard on this surprise. You’re not going to let it all go to
waste, are you? What use is a surprise if you already know what it is?”

“Alright.” She rolled her eyes. “You got me intrigued. Let me get my coat.”

“And don’t forget my gift.”

Emily threw him a look over her shoulder. “What gift?”

“My gift.” He stressed. “You did get a gift for me didn’t you?”

“I thought you were sure of yourself. Maybe I did you a gift and maybe I
didn’t.” She said slyly.

“Just get your coat *and* my gift.”

Santa baby, forgot to mention one little thing, a ring
I don't mean a phone
Santa baby, and hurry down the chimney tonight

Hurry down the chimney tonight
Hurry down the chimney tonight

“Juan? Where are you taking me?” Emily asked for the umpteenth time. Juan
had his hand over her eyes as he slowly led her through the snow.

“Juan? Where are you taking me?” Emily asked for the umpteenth time. Juan
had his hand over her eyes as he slowly led her through the snow. Her hand
clutched his arm.

“Just a little farther.” He told her. “We’re going down some steps, okay.
Slowly, slowly.”

“I think I know where we are.” Emily said.

“Shh.” He warned her. “Don’t spoil this for me.”

“Okay, okay.”

Once they had arrived at the spot, he uncovered her eyes. He said proudly.
“Viola!”

Emily looked around her. They were standing on the docks by what she
thought as “their” bench. The surrounding area was draped with Christmas
lights. The bench was covered with an electric blanket. Next to it on the
ground was a picnic basket and a radio playing Christmas carols.

Hang all the mistletoe
I'm gonna get to know you better
This Christmas
And as we trim the tree
How much fun it's gonna be together
This Christmas

The fireside is blazing bright
We're caroling through the night
And this Christmas will be
A very special Christmas for me, yeah

“D-do you like it?” He said anxiously.

“Yes!” She threw her arms around his neck. “It’s great.”

“I wanted things to be perfect because it’s our first Christmas together
and…” He slipped his arms around her waist and pulled her close.

“It is.” She gave him a quick kiss. “But why the docks?”

“I thought of someplace that meant something to use and I naturally came up
with the docks. When I think of the docks, I think of you.”

“So do I.” She beamed at him. “How did you do it? I mean all this?”

“I had a little help. Okay, a lot of help.” He admitted. “Taggert helped me
string the lights and he watched over while I went to get you. So we don’t
have to worry about him busting in on us, we just have to make sure we
clean up after ourselves.”

“We can do that.” Emily’s eyes glowed with happiness. “You are like the
best boyfriend ever!”

Presents and cards are here
My world is filled with cheer and you
This Christmas
Lights twinkle all around
But your eyes outshine the town
They do, this Christmas

The fireside is blazing bright
We're caroling through the night
And this Christmas will be
A very special Christmas for me, yeah
This Christmas will be
A very special Christmas for me, yeah

Juan laughed. He took her by the arm and led her over to the bench. They
both sat. “Okay, we have the electric blanket to keep us toasty, music to
keep us in the seasonal mood, and in the basket there’s hot chocolate and
cookies.”

“Looks, like you thought of everything.” She said sliding close to him. He
threw his arm around her.

He smiled. “I tried.”

She gave him soft lingering kiss. “You did a very good job.”

“I guess I didn’t need to bring the mistletoe after all.” He joked.

“Not with the way I feel about you.” She said softly.

He gently brushed the back of his hand down the side of her face. Emily
sighed and closed her eyes. He murmured. “I feel the same way.”

The fireside is blazing bright
We're caroling through the night
Yeah, this Christmas

Juan cleared his throat. “Do you want a cookie or some cocoa?”

Emily shook her head. “Not right now.”

“Do you want to exchange gifts?”

“Yeah.” She nodded. She was eager to see what he got for her. “You want to
open them tonight or tomorrow.”

“Tonight.” He immediately answered.

“Good idea.” She agreed.

Juan reached into his pocket and pulled out a small gift wrapped box. Emily
went into her purse and took out two brightly wrapped boxes.

Juan gaped at them. “You got me two? But I thought—”

“Oh, no, no.” She hurried to explain. “It’s…well, you’ll see when you open
them. Open this one first.”

She thrust the larger box at him and waited impatiently for him to open it.
He carefully peeled back the tape. She groaned. “You take your time open
gifts don’t you?”

“I take my time because I appreciate the effort you put into this.” He
explained.

“Oh, just rip it open, already!” She urged.

“Okay, okay.” He laughed and tore off the wrapping and opened the box.
Inside was a silver frame and in the frame was a picture of Emily and Juan.

“I knew that you didn’t have any pictures of us and I thought it was a good
idea. Do you like it?”

“I love it.” He answered honestly.

“I wanted to get it perfect. I wasn’t sure if you would like it but I
thought it was a good idea.” She babbled.

“Emily.” He cupped the side of her face. “I really do love it. Really.
Thank you.”

“Okay, I just wanted—” She caught herself. “You’re welcome.”

“Alright open mine now.” He gave her his gift. He laughed as he watched
Emily tear into the gift.

“I can’t stand the suspense.” She smiled. She gasped when she opened the
box. It was an id bracelet with their names on it. “Juan!”

“I guess I don’t have to ask you if you like it.” He managed to squeeze
out after Emily threw herself against him, her arms wrapped around him.

She rained small kisses over his face. “Does that tell you anything?”

“That I have a very grateful girlfriend.”

“Here, help me put it on.” She held out her wrist and pushed back the
sleeve of her coat.

Juan clasped the bracelet on her wrist. She glanced down at it and admired
the way the lights twinkled off of it. “I think it looks it great. You have
wonderful taste. How did you afford it?”

“Let’s just say that I’ll be working for Ned for free for a couple of
weeks.” His face softened. “But it was worth it.”

“Alright, now open my other one.” She gave him the smaller box.

“You know I’ll have to get you another gift now.” He informed her as she
opened it.

“You can get me something extra special for my birthday.” She told him.

He grinned. “I was planning on doing that away…”

He stopped talking as he saw the gift. Emily said quietly. “I went to
Sonny’s and asked for it. He was going to give it back to you as a gift so
you can consider this from both of us. And Lily.”

Juan took the gold chain from out of the box and stared at the crucifix
that dangled from it. “I wish that I could have had at least one Christmas
with her.”

“In a way, you are.” She pointed out. “I’m sure that she’s looking down on
you right now. Her and your other mother…”

He took her into his arms and hugged her tightly to him. His voice broke as
he said. “Thank you.”

“You’re welcome.”

He pressed his forehead against hers. “You don’t know how much this means
to me…”

She stroked the side of his face. “I have a feeling.”

He softly brushed his lips across hers then sighed heavily. He pulled back
and looked off at the water.

“I have to say that this Christmas is going in my top ten list of great
Christmases.” She said to lighten the mood.

“Only the top ten?” He glanced at her.

She pretended to think it over. “Okay, maybe top five.”

“Five?” He arched an eyebrow in disbelief.

“This doesn’t beat the year I got a tricycle.” She grinned.

“Alright, I’ll settle for top five then.” He rubbed his lips across her
forehead then threw his arm around her shoulders. “I’m glad that we’re
together here.”

“So am I.” She agreed. “Merry Christmas.”

“Merry Christmas.”

Bells will be ringing the sad sad news
Oh what a Christmas to have the blues
My baby's gone (my baby's gone)
I have no friends
To wish me greetings
once again

Choirs will be singing Silent Night
Christmas carols by candlelight
Please come home for
Christmas (please come home)
Please come home for
Christmas (please come home)
If not for Christmas by New Years night

Alexis bustled into the penthouse, her arms laden with shopping bags. She
stopped short at the sound of the sad Christmas song and the sight of the
miserable man sitting alone on the couch. She sighed. She had a long battle
ahead of her but she wasn’t about to stop.

“Merry Christmas, Jax.” She tried calling out cheerfully. “Hi, I’m back.
There were only a few places open but I cleaned them out.”

He barely looked up at her, just stared at the fire roaring in the
fireplace.

Alexis put down her bags and went over to the couch. “Don’t you want to
know what I got?”

She curled up next to him and gently touched his shoulder. “Jax?”

Friends and relations send salutations
Just as sure as the stars shine above (yes they do)

This is Christmas
Christmas my dear
The time of year to be with the
one you love

Finally he spoke, his eyes on the fire. “How can you be so cheerful at a
time like this?”

Alexis knew that he was referring to their current situation. Chloe and Ned
had shocked them last month with the admission that somehow, when they
weren’t aware of it, they’d fallen in love. Instead of staying in Port
Charles to celebrate Christmas, they went down to Lois and her family who
were always ready to welcome them into the celebration.

The Jacks had been stunned and had turned to each other for comfort.
Neither spoke of getting a divorce. Frankly it was the last thing on their
minds. So they sulked around the penthouse not even decorating for or
celebrating the season. Until that morning when Alexis got out of bed with
a new outlook on the situation. It was time to make the best of things she
reasoned and she would start by spreading some holiday cheer through the
penthouse.

“Because it’s Christmas and I *refuse* to be upset on Christmas.” She
pounded on the back of the couch for emphasis.

“I don’t know Alexis.” He frowned. All he could do was think of Chloe and
try to figure out what went wrong.

Then won't you tell me you'll
never more roam
Christmas and New Year
(Christmas and New Year's)
will find you back home
There'll be no more sorrow no
grief or pain
I'll be happy (happy) that it's
Christmas once again

Alexis gritted her teeth. “Jax, I promise you that I will make this the
best Christmas ever. We will not be miserable this Christmas, do you hear
me?”

He shrugged. “Do what you want…”

“I will and first off, I’m turning off this depressing song.” Alexis walked
over to the radio and selected new music. She started snapping her fingers
and wiggling around. “This is more like it.”

Jax had to laugh at her. He couldn’t help it.

Rocking around the Christmas tree
at the Christmas party hop
Mistletoe hung where you can see
every couple tries to stop
Rocking around the Christmas tree,
let the Christmas spirit ring
Later we'll have some pumpkin pie
and we'll do some caroling.

There was a knock at the door and Alexis danced her way over to open it. A
young man struggling with a large live tree was waiting. “Mrs. Jacks?”

Alexis clapped with pleasure. “The tree is here!”

“Where on earth did you find a Christmas tree on December 24?” Jax got up
to help the young man bring the tree in.

“I’m a Jacks.” She said proudly. “I can’t reveal my sources. Now say thank
you and tip the young man.”

A smiled tugged at the corners of Jax’s mouth. “Thank you, Alexis.” He
reached into his pocket and pulled a couple bills out and gave it the boy.

His eyes widened when he saw how much Jax had given him. “Sir, this is too
much.”

Jax held up his hand to halt the boy’s speech. “Don’t worry about it, keep
it.”

“Thank you!” He beamed. “And Merry Christmas.”

“Merry Christmas to you too.” Alex said as she closed the door after him.
“See you’re getting into the Christmas spirit already.”

Jax put his hands in his pockets and shrugged. He nodded at the tree. “What
are we going to do with that?”

“We are going to decorate it and the penthouse.” She announced. “Now help
me move this.”

“Let me do it.” Alexis directed Jax to place the tree in the corner where
it could be seen perfectly from the couches and she quickly got it set up,
complete with a cheerful tree skirt. She stood and dusted her hands.
“Alright let’s get to work.”

You will get a sentimental
feeling when you hear
Voices singing let's be jolly,
deck the halls with boughs of holly
Rocking around the Christmas tree,
have a happy holiday
Everyone dancing merrily
in the new old-fashioned way.

Alexis passed him one of the bags. “Okay, you start working with this bag.”

Jax reluctantly took it from her. “Alexis, we can decorate but it’s not
going to put me in the holiday mood.”

Alexis regarded him with a sly smile and an arched eyebrow. “Is that
right?”

He nodded. “Exactly.”

“Right. Just get to work, okay.”

Alexis and Jax worked as a team. First they tackled the tree. Jax helped
her string the lights around the tree. They passed each other ornaments to
put on the tree. Jax helped steady the chair that Alexis stood on so that
she could place the angel on the top. She beamed down at him.

“What do you think?”

He had to smile back. “Looks pretty good.”

“Looks damn good.” She reached for him. “Help me down.”

He placed his hand on her waist. She put hers on his shoulder and jumped
down, making sure not to land on him. “That’s not all.” She grabbed another
shopping bag. “We still have a lot to do.”

Jingle bell, jingle bell, jingle bell rock
Jingle bells swing and jingle bells ring
Snowing and blowing up bushels of fun
Now the jingle hop has begun

They quickly busied themselves filling the penthouse with cheerful and
somewhat garish decorations. Jax frowned as he put a particularly gaudy
Santa Claus picture in the window. “Alexis? Where did you get this stuff?”

“You don’t like it?” She laughed. She switched on a dancing Santa doll.
“There weren’t that many places open so I had to make do with what was
left.”

“I can see that.” He reached into the bag and pulled out two mismatched
stockings. He raised his eyebrows.

Alexis tossed a handful of garlands at him. “Shut up. I did my best.”

Jax just shook his head and pinned the stockings to the mantle.
Unconsciously he began to hum along to the music. Taking it a step further
he started to sing with it also.

Jingle bell, jingle bell, jingle bell rock
Jingle bells chime in jingle bell time
Dancing and prancing in Jingle Bell Square
In the frosty air.

What a bright time, it's the right time
To rock the night away
Jingle bell time is a swell time
To go gliding in a one-horse sleigh
Giddy-up jingle horse, pick up your feet
Jingle around the clock
Mix and a-mingle in the jingling feet
That's the jingle bell,
That's the jingle bell,
That's the jingle bell rock.

A soft giggle interrupted Jax’s singing. He turned his head and narrowed
his eyes in the direction of Alexis. She was standing on a chair in front
the door taping something up.

“Was that a laugh I heard?”

“No.” But Alexis’ voice was strained because she was trying to hold back
the laughter.

He slowly made his way over to her. “Really? Because I swear I heard
laughter. Should I try again?”

“Please no!” Alexis snickered. “A word of advice. Stick to the corporate
raiding.”

“I guess I should cancel that contract with L&B…” Jax joked but when he
realized what he said the two of them fell quiet. He pushed his hand
through his hair. “So what are you doing over here?”

Alexis cleared her throat. As much as she tried to pretend that she was
handling the news of Ned and Chloe well it still hurt. “I was hanging up
this.”

She moved her hand away to reveal a sprig of mistletoe. Jax slowly said.
“Alexis…”

“What? It is the season. You gotta have mistletoe.”

“I wasn’t disapproving it. I was just about to tell you that you’re
standing underneath it...” He said with an expecting smile.

She looked at it and slowly started to smile. “It *is* a time-honored
tradition…”

“Let me help you down.” Once again Alexis placed her hands on his shoulders
and Jax put his on her waist, giving her support. This time instead of
letting her jump down he lifted her off the chair and slowly let her down.

“It’s tradition.” He said softly and brushed the hair away from her face.

Alexis held his gaze and her breath as he slowly bent his head. Jax barely
touched her. His fingertips rested lightly on her cheek. The kiss
surprised them with its sweetness. It was nothing like their past friendly
pecks, little kisses that they didn’t even think about but just freely
gave. Alexis closed her eyes. It had been so long since she was last
kissed. She let out a soft sigh.

Chestnuts roasting on an open fire
Jack Frost nipping at your nose
Yuletide carols being sung by a choir
And folks dressed up like Eskimos

Everybody knows a turkey and some
Mistletoe help to make the season bright
Tiny tots with their eyes all aglow
Will find it hard to sleep tonight

At the sound of it, Jax pulled away and stared at her slightly. Alexis
opened her eye when she realized that he had stopped. Suddenly she felt
awkward and stupid for reacting the way she did. She ran her hands through
her hair. “Well.”

She repeated the words and grabbed the chair she’d been standing on.
“Well.”

Jax went to touch her. “Alexis, I…” He wasn’t sure if he was going to
apologize or what.

But she moved away carrying the chair in front of her like a guard. “So I
think we’re done here. All we have to do is plug up the tree and—”

Jax grabbed her arm. “Alexis, look at me.”

She looked at the floor instead. “What, Jax? It was just a stupid little
tradition. Now I’m going to go into the kitchen and whip us up a little
snack. No, I will not attempt to use the stove.”

“Alexis…” He pushed again.

But Alexis continued to avoid him. “There’s some of those little lights
that look like candles in that bag over there. Plug them up and put them in
the windows, okay? I’ll be right back.”

She practically ran for the kitchen leaving Jax to run his hands through
his hair in frustration. Then he went about following her directions and
also gathering up the garbage left over from the decorations.

They know that Santa's on his way
He's loaded lots of toys and goodies
On his sleigh
And ev'ry mother's
Child is gonna spy to see if
Reindeer really know how to fly

Alexis returned from the kitchen with a cheery smile a tray filled with
goodies. It was obvious that she had managed to compose herself in the
kitchen. She placed the tray on the coffee table and began to point out
what she brought. “There’s apple cider, all I did was zap it in the
microwave. Sugar cookies that I got from Kelly’s earlier. And of course our
old standard, microwave popcorn. No need to fear food poisoning from me.”

“Are we going to string popcorn for the tree?” Jax asked. If she was going
to avoid what had happened then so would he. For now.

She looked at the tree that was already crowed with ornaments, lights, and
tinsel. “No, it’s already full and besides do you know how much work that
is?”

Jax laughed. “Maybe you’re right. Okay, let’s light up the tree and see how
it looks.”

“I’ll get the lights.” Alexis snatched up a cookie and nibbled on it as she
went around the room turning off the lights.

Jax knelt by the outlet with the plug in hand. “Ready?”

Alexis got in place in front of the tree and waited. “Yup.”

Jax plugged it in and came to stand by Alexis’ side. He threw his arm
around her shoulders. “What do you think?”

Her mouth twitched as she stared at the tree. “Umm…”

“It’s horrible.” He answered for her. He was right. They had overloaded the
tree with as many ostentatious ornaments and candy canes as they could and
then liberally added icicles to cover the whole thing.

“No, no, no.” She rushed to correct him. She waved the remainder of her
cookie at the tree as she struggled to find the right words to describe it.
“It’s…unique.”

Jax bit into the cookie in her hand. “It’s horrible.” He repeated, chewing
loudly.

“Don’t talk with your mouth full.” She admonished. Then she laughed. “But
you’re right. It’s horrible.”

Jax took her by the arm and led her over to the couch. He sank down on the
plush cushions, stretched his legs out and pulled her into the crook of his
arm. “Decorators, we are not.”

Alexis leaned against him without a second thought. “The lights are
pretty.”

Jax reached for a cup of cider and sipped it slowly. “What few lights we
can see.”

“I think we over did it with the icicles.” Alexis took the cup from Jax and
drank from it also.

“You think?” Jax tilted his head sideways to look at the tree better. “Yeah
but I kind of like it. Gives it a more homey feel.”

He gazed down at her and said softly. “I think you actually did it. I’m
feeling very christmasy.”

Alexis placed the cup back on the table and looked at him with triumph in
her eyes. “Really? Then mission accomplished.”

“But there’s one more thing.” Jax reached behind the couch and pulled out
the sprig of mistletoe and held it over his head.

Alexis looked away. “Jax…”

“I’m under it and it’s tradition.” He coaxed her gently. “Just a little
one.”

She sighed then reluctantly reached up to give him a quick kiss on the
cheek but Jax, seeing what she was up to, swiftly moved so that her lips
connected with his instead. Her eyes widened in shock. Jax took advantage
of her surprise and deepened the kiss.

Alexis allowed herself to melt into the kiss. Jax’s tongue leisurely
explored her mouth, the taste of cookies and apple cider mingled. Once
again Alexis sighed but this time Jax didn’t break the kiss, he continued
to kiss her passionately.

Gradually Alexis stopped the kiss, going back for quick little kisses until
finally they stopped to catch their breath. She looked at him with wonder.
“Jax?”

“You know,” Jax began softly. “This tree reminds me of us. Thrown together
at the last minute. A little quirky and unconventional but if you look at
it in the right light, with the right eyes, and with the right person it’s
absolutely perfect.”

Alexis slowly smiled. “You’re turning into a real poet.”

“You bring out the best in me.” He caressed the side of her face and
murmured. “Merry Christmas, Mrs. Jacks.”

She said softly. “Merry Christmas, Mr. Jacks.”

Jax wrapped his arms around her. She snuggled up to him and leaned her head
on his chest. He sighed happily and the two of them gazed at the tree.

And so, I'm offering this
Simple phrase to kids from
One to ninety-two
Altho' it's been said many times
Many ways; “Merry Christmas to you”
