"Grand Delusions"
January 15, 1998
Wow, that was a great episode. Finest kind of episode, deluxe, top-of-the-line, red letter episode :) I think it's my favorite now. I've already watched it 4 times, 3 of which were today.
There were plenty of funny moments, most of the Don Q./Trevor scenes left me laughing. The first time I saw the part where Champ is "knighting" Don Q. it made me fall off the couch laughing, especially at the end of the scene where Trevor is trying to play the horn/trumpet. Poor Trevor, it must have hurt getting hit so many times, but atleast it made me laugh :)
Someone on the list asked why Don. Q choose a stripper as his Dulcinea. well, okay, here's my opinion. the first time we see "Dulcinea" she almost gets hit by a car. Now, Claire said that Robert's wife got his by a drunk driver, so maybe he connected "Dulcinea" with his wife.
Okay, here's a question: In that scene where Claire is walking in the rain and Trevor comes up to her, and tells her that he found Don. Q's Dulcinea Claire's hair is straight. She tells Trevor that she is going to an appointment with the man who believes he's Don Quixote, but then at that appointment her hair is curly. Her hair went from straight to curly in the time it took her to drive to work? Anyways, I loved her hair curly. It was very different, and made her look younger.
Jaclyn from "A Great Personality" was in this episode too, which pleased me. I love her character! She is so like me. We both have the same hair (color & cut), we're both kind of ditzy, and we both have a crush on Trevor/Cupid :) Did Trevor even know that she was flirting with him? He seemed kind of oblivious to that, or maybe he was just trying to ignore it. But that character scared me when Jaclyn told Claire "Your dad's a hottie" I mean he was like 50/60 years old. Then again, who am I to talk, I'm only 16 and I think lots of 30 year olds are hotties (Trevor included!), oh wow another thing I have in common with Jaclyn. Oh, and both our first names start with J (my real name's Janet).
As is usual with many episodes of Cupid, the music of this episode was important. The Spanish music set the tone very well. The song that was playing when the dancer kicked Trevor made that scene even more funny. The song that Don Q. sings to his Dulcinea in the restaurant was so sweet, he has a lovely voice. Then the jazz song that Claire's father plays at the end of the episode, I think the title was, um, "Breakfast with Claire", what a great gift to his daughter. It almost made me cry. And this is sort of about music but um I thought it was so sweet and thoughtful of Trevor to get the $50 album for Claire, proves he loves her!
I remember about a week ago there was a big discussion over Roman/Greek names of the gods and why the show was using some Greek names. Well, I think in this episode Cupid answered that for us when he said "My name's Cupid, but I'll answer to Eros when traveling in Europe." Well, why can't Jupiter be called Zeus in different parts of the world? Makes sense to my screwed up mind :)
There were so many great Claire/Trevor scenes, which makes a great episode. Most of them were so funny and kept me laughing, those two have such a great chemistry. Still, the best Claire/Trevor moment was the dramatic one at the end, where they go visit Robert at the psychiatric's ward. I love that scene and have re-watched like at least 10 times already. The only problem with that part is the fact that it kind of makes me doubt that Trevor is Cupid.
Well, that's all of my review.
