Courteney Cox was born on June 15, 1964 in Birminham, Alabama. She is the youngest of four children. When Courteney was 10, her parents got divorced, after 19 years of maariage. Courteney stayed with her mother, brother, and two sisters.
Courteney went to Mountain Brook High, a public school in Birmingham. In 1982, Courteney graduated from high school and began to study architecture at Mt. Vernon college in Washington.
In college, Courteney decided that she wanted to be a model, so Ian Copeland (her step father's nephew) suggested she pursue it. He also suggested that she try acting. Courteney did ads for Noxema and Maybelline. She also had a small role on "As The World Turns."
It wasn't until 1984 that Courteney became known. Whe was the girl Bruce Springsteen pulled on stage to dance with at the end of this Dancing In The Dark video. The job paid $350, but the exposure was enough to springboard Courteney to other work in the acting business.
In 1985, Courteney was in the NBC series called Misfits of Science, which was dropped in four months. That same year, Courteney was cast as Lauren (Michale J. Fox's girlfriend) on Family Ties. The end of Family Ties brought Courteney to a standstill in her career. She did several motion pictures, but it wasn't until 1994 when she got her next big break. She was cast in Ace Ventura: Pet Detective.
Soon after that, Courteney won the role of Monica Geller on Friends. She then went on to star in the major motion picture "Scream" and then its sequel "Scream 2." It was on the set of "Scream" where she met David Arquette. They got married on June 10, 1999, and Courteney officially changed her name to Courteney Cox Arquette soon after.
