1980?

A movie of the week starring Jeff Goldblum as Ichabod and Meg Foster as Katrina. I remember watching this in American Lit in 7th grade, and it was not bad. It was done pretty straightforward, with good atmosphere. It also had the legend turn out to be true, as Brom in disguise is not the only Headless Horseman riding about. Hard to find, I once saw it at a Blockbuster Video. I haven't seen it run on TV for some time.

Mid 80's

"Shelley Duvall's Tall Tales and Legends" did an episode based on the legend, but it monkeys with the story quite a bit, introducing characters who did not exist before. It also suffers from that "Made for TV" look, meaning that the climactic chase scene comes off a little flat. But like most Shelley Duvall productions, it is well done and the final result is enjoyable. In this one, Ed Begley Junior is Ichabod, and Beverly DeAngelo aka Ellen Griswold is the fair Katrina. The cool part in this one is the end: the day after scaring Ichabod, Brom rides through the forest and meets the real Headless Horseman.

BOOKS

Legend (okay, my brother) has it that there was a sequel to "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow", entitled just plain "Sleepy Hollow", written sometime in the 60's or 70's. All he remembers about the plot is that Katrina fell prey to the White Woman of Raven Rock, a spirit mentioned in the original. He claims it was one of those Scholastic books that clutter the nation's classrooms. Has anyone else read this or heard of it?
