Fight the future - a shipper's analysis

Nice heading ,huh? Well I could have also called it

The question that has baffled Shippers around the globe for years. Well, I don't have the answer, but I do like writing about the`bee scene' in the movie. Obviously the best part of the movie! Closely followed by the scene, where Mulder gives Scully mouth to mouth rescucitation in the spaceship...

Careful, this includes spoilers!!!

Mulder is in his apartment, when Scully walks in and tells him, that she has been transfered to Salt Lake City, but will quit the FBI . She is close to tears... Mulder doesn't want her to leave, he says, that he needs her to help him with this case, `We're close to something here, we're on the verge!' But Scully dismisses him and tells him, that he has never needed her and that she has only kept him back...

Scully: `Why did they assign me to you in the first place, Mulder? To debunk your work, to rein you in, to shut you down.'

Mulder: `But you saved me! As difficult and frustrating as it's been sometimes, you goddamn strict rationalism and science have saved me a hundred, a thousand times over! You've kept me honest..you've made me a whole person. I owe you everything, Scully...and you owe me nothing...I don't know if I want to do this alone...I don't know if I can...and if I quit now, they win.'

Scully looks at Mulder, overcome with emotion, and in shock as his honesty flows out. Silently tears roll down her face. She walks towards him and they fall into each other's arms. Scully then looks into Mulder's eyes and gently, while holding his head (see picture above) she stands on her toes to kiss him on the forehead. He looks into her eyes, and very slowly, he moves towards her for THE KISS...

But then... Scully pulls back and says`Ow' (!!!). It seems, she has been stung by a bee. But not any bee, no! This bee is carrying the before mentioned alien virus. Scully feels weak and collapses into Mulder's arms. Mulder very gently lowers her to the floor, then he runs back to his appartment and dials 911: `This is special agent Fox Mulder. This is an emergency. I have an agent down!'

By the way there is a website, that is dedicated entirely to that bee. It might be worth checking out!

Another nice Scully/Mulder moment happened at the end of the movie. Mulder sits on a bench in a park outside of J. Edgar Hoover's FBI headquarters. He looks exhausted and holds a newspaper in his hand, he's staring at a small headline: `Local Hanta Virus Outbreak in Northern Texas Contained'. Scully arrives and he hands her the newspaper.

Mulder: There's an interesting work of fiction on page 24, interestingly our names have been omitted. They're burying this thing, Scully. They're just going to dig a new hole and cover it up.

Scully: I told OPR everything I know. What I experienced, the virus, how it's spread by the bees from pollen in transgenic crops.

Mulder: You're wasting your time, Scully. They'll never believe you, not unless your story can be programmed, categorized or easily referenced.

Scully: Well, then we'll go over their heads.

Mulder: No. No. How many times have we been here before, Scully? Right here. So close to the truth and now with what we've seen and what we know to be right back at the beginning with nothing.

Scully: This is different, Mulder.

Mulder: No it isn't! You were right to want to quit. You were right to want to leave me! You should get as far away from me as you can. I'm not going to watch you die, Scully, because of some hollow personal cause of mine. Go be a doctor. Go be a doctor while you still can.

Scully: I can't. I won't. Mulder; I'll be a doctor, but my work is here with you now. That virus that I was exposed to, whatever it is, it has a cure. You held it in your hand. How many other lives can we save? Look...if I quit now, they win...

And then they hold hands and walk away into the sunset..sort of! It's just so cute!!!
