Hanging On Written by Rocket Gal This story is rated: Um, PG13 I did accidentally use some swear words! I'm sorry! :) Before reading this story you must have read: If Only (another Team Rocket story) It pretty much picks up from the last sentence of that story so I would read it first before this one.
James continued to hold Jessie in his arms as he tried to revive her. "Jessie. Jessica! Wake up, Jess! Please! Don't let it end like this! I never knew- I never thought-," he kissed her hand. "Why did I have to - Please come back to me!" James, overwhelmed by his emotions, pulled the lifeless Jessie close to his still beating heart. As he began to weep, Jessie's chest began to constrict and she started to cough and sputter. James, amazed by this turn of events, quickly proped her up right. She coughed a few times more and settled back in his arms. "Jessie?" he softly asked. "James?" she wearily smiled at him, "You- you came back? Why?" "I'll give you one guess" he smiled. "Don't make me-" she raised her hand as though to strike him but instead caressed his cheek. James put his hand on her extended one, "Why did you do this to yourself, Jess?"
She sighed hopelessly and stared off into space, "I love you so much, James. I didn't know how or when to ever tell you and when I finally do, you leave me. I've never loved anyone like I love you and when you walked out of my life, I knew I'd just be going through the motions. And living the rest of my life wondering what I could have done, where you were, how you were, if you were happy as long as you never saw me, well, that was something I wasn't going to bear." James still holding her hand, "I'm so sorry, Jess." Still staring off and sounding hopeless, "I should have expected as much. I mean, if I constantly harass someone everyday and then tell them I love them, I guess they should blow up. Besides who would ever love me? Who could? I'd probably just whack them with a fan! All I do is hit and insult. That's all there is to me." James shacking his head, "No, Jessie. Your wrong!" he smiled at her realizing what he had just said, "That doesn't happen often does it?" Jessie smiled back at him warmly. "Your beautiful," he continued, "Talented, funny, witty-" "Stop," Jessie said quietly as she tried to cover his mouth with her hand, "and save some for later! You'll run out of things too quick." James took her hand down and kissed it. He continued, "Lovely, and even though you might not know it and I'm too dense to notice......loving."
Jessie just gazed into James' eyes for a few moments, the turned her eyes to the sky, "James? Do you know why I joined Team Rocket?" "To be close to Meowth?" James kiddingly commented. Smiling, Jessie closed her eyes, going to sleep, "Yeah...." James noticing that she was going down, "Jessie?" "Hmmmmm?" halfway asleep. "Should I let you sleep?" "I don't know, James," she managed to mumble out, "First Aid isn't one of my credentials." James beginning to get worried, "Well, don't sleep yet! Stay awake!" "I'll try but I'm having trouble...." she started drifting off more and more. Looking around frantically, James screamed, "Meowth!" Meowth immediately leaped to their side. "Meowth! Fire up the balloon! And quick!" "I- I can't, James. It's popped!" "What?" James screamed, "Damn those stupid kids!" "The car..." Jessie murmured. "What?" James asked her. "The car...it's in the other clearing. the keys are in Arbok's pokeball." Without hesitation, James ran his hands around Jessie's waist and took the pokeball from her belt. Arbok popped out of the pokeball and so did the keys. James grabed hold of them, "Got them! Let's move!" James scooped the limp Jessie up in his arms, "Hold on, Jess!"
The trio dashed to the rocket jeep that was awaiting in the clearing where Jessie had said it was. Meowth jumped in the back as James quickly strapped Jessie into the passenger seat. "You know how to drive?" Meowth inquired. "Of course! I am of driving age!" "Oh, I just thought since Jessie always drove-" "No time for that! Let's go!" James started the car and they speed off out of the forest
