Ian's Girl

The gang are sitting around Ian's place after the gig. They are in high spirits, although it's doubtful that the school of the arts gang shared their enthusiasm, especially since the heavy metal gig ended up with Ian leaping out of crowd and head butting a concert-goer who was hitting on Reggie.

Will:
I'm going show the Brits how to make a hamburger - I know what they've been doing wrong. You use real meat.

Joanna:
I think your schools chums were quite flabbergasted.

Ian:
C'mon.

Joanna:
Oh they were I bet they never saw you like before.

Ian:
I've done a bit of my thing here. I want you to listen to something. I wrote it one day - I was thinking of you.

Joanna:
Ooh, romantic is it?

Ian:
See for yourself.

Joanna:
You've written it - on paper?

Ian:
Yeah, Shorofsky made me learn.

Joanna:
That's terrific.

Ian reaches over to the synth beside him and programs it to play something. He then takes his guitar and begins to sing.

After Dark

After Dark
I haven't had much practice.
Not like you.
I never looked at love through a broken heart.
What am I gonna do?

After dark
With a world of secrets hidden deep
I never looked at love til we missed the mark
Now I cannot sleep

After dark there's no replacing us
It's after dark.
No way to shake it off
It's after dark
No one to make this love with

After dark
I can see your face in the shadows that another full moon makes
Oh, but where's the part you come running back?

After dark
There's no replacing us
It's after dark.
No way to shake it off
It's after dark
No one to make this love with.
After dark
There's no replacing us
After dark
No way to shake it, shake it off
No one to make this love with
After dark...

As Ian has been singing, Joanna's eyes soften with tears, and she lays her head on his shoulder. We also see shots of the band enjoying the music and smiling. When Ian finishes, they burst into spontaneous applause which he acknowledges with a sheepish wave.

Joanna:
It's beautiful

Ian:
It was inspired.

Joanna:
It's different for you.

Ian:
What do you mean?

Joanna:
Musically - it's more sophisticated - richer. You're growing Ian.

Ian:
I'm just a wee lad, I ought to be growing.

Joanna:
I'm serious.

Ian:
So am I. He kisses her. Maybe I'll come with you to Boston.

Joanna:
No

Ian:
Why not?

Joanna:
Because I've finally come to accept that tomorrow is the last I'll see you. And I'm going to miss you all over again just like six months ago.

Ian:
Think about it?

Joanna:
If I think about it. I start dreaming. And the next thing you know - I've got you back with me on Kings Road.

Ian:
Boston is only for four days..

Joanna:
That's the problem.
