Ed's Arrival
It seemed like forever. Ed, the seventh son of the king Ottoborg was left spinning. When Ottoborg, the fun-loving, jolly son of Quater forgot to apply gravity to his created world, a pond which Ottoborg's with three robots and seven sons lived, the small world split apart, separating the sons. Each son floated off into space on their own chunk of land. Going forth on their own journeys. Some ended in tragedy, some with luck and a happy new life. Ed's Chunk went no where. I t just spun in it's place. After years of living on his small rotating piece of earth, all alone, Ed became quite bored. Looking at the bright lights, glowing from the very distant worlds, Ed grew curious.
"Perhaps there is a better place, a fun place where people will like me," Ed thought to himself, "Somewhere. . ."
Help! Ed needed help. To getting his chunk of land to start moving so that he could have his share of adventures. At first, Ed was shy. For he had never really met his grandfather before, let alone asked a favor of him. Ed took a deep sigh and yell out into space. . . .
"Quater! Me need yo' help! Pweas?!"
By pure luck, Quater was drifting nearby. He was on his way to visit his son Arven. Quater heard the weak cry of his grandson. He turned and look down. Below he saw a small hoop-headed figure standing on a slowly whirling pieces of land. Obviously a son of Ottoborg. But what could he do? Pausing for a moment of thought, Quater signaled to Ed to hang on to something.
Ed ran into his house and hid under his bed. . . .
With a clap of his hands a large asteroid came hurling towards Ed's little chunk. At the moment of contact, the mass of land went flying into space. The asteroid stopped, and began spinning in place, just as Ed's home once did. Quater smiled in satisfaction and continued on his way.
Ed drifted through the cold blackness of space for a long time. But during that time faced many dangers. Colliding with other mobile objects or coming in contact with dangerous beings was very much a threat. It seemed like possibly years had passed before Ed's chunk moved near any type of habitable worlds.
But what's this?!
Ed's piece of land began moving at an incredible pace. Ed went in his house, hoping it would slow down. . . but it only got faster. Ed felt the sickening sensation of falling helplessly, and grew worried that this happenstance could very well lead to a certain doom. Baffled about what to he should do, Ed just sat down and waited. . . .waited for whatever was coming to him.
Meanwhile, on a small klay-made world, a being known as Klaymen and a few of his friends were playing games and lazing about there humble, yet exciting lives. Momentarily, Klaymen caught notice of the sky while munching on a green
apple.
"Hm, what's that?"
Klaymen saw an object getting closer and closer to their klay world. One of Klaymen's friends predicted that the object would make impact right in the area they were standing. . . . so they better move quick!
The klay beings scrambled into the dynamite shack. With in a short while a loud crash was heard outside. Klaymen slowly opened the door to peak out. A mass of earth had landed right on top of the wall, just opposite of the red klaywall car tracks. Slowly the klay beings crept out. They weren't sure what to do. Klaymen took a deep breath and walked boldly over t the wall and looked up at the foreign chunk of land. For some time he looked at a house-like figure, up there. Klaymen then shrugged, not certain of what to anticipate, and gestured to his companions to come over to him. Gradually they came, all with questions in their minds. As Klaymen started to walk away, a squeaky-like cry came from the dwelling above. Klaymen quickly cocked his head and turned around.
"Lets go up there and see what it is," he said. "It may need our help."
At first, no one reacted.
"What if it's something dangerous?" asked one.
"That house is pretty high up. . .how would ya' get up there?" asked another.
Klaymen just shrugged, he didn't know. Promptly, though, a klay being got an idea and zipped back into the dynamite shack. Seconds later, he raced out and handed a bundle of klay-rope to Klaymen. Klaymen nodded to his friend and smiled.
"Th-thanks!"
Klaymen tied a loop at one end of the klay-rope, and tossed in upwards. After many trys, the loop finally snared around a part of the house on top of the wall. Tediously, Klaymen pulled himself up the rope. Once Klaymen reached near the top, he grabbed onto the edge and hoisted himself up on to the chunk of alien soil. Klaymen tip-toed cautiously around the house. . . .
"Um. . .hello?" Klaymen called out. "Is anybody there. . . “
Suddenly a small window opened at the front end of the house. Klaymen turned to the opened window and saw a familiar figure peaking out. They both just looked at each other for a while, unsure of what the other whole do or say. Klaymen slowly waved to the strange being and spoke. . .
"Greetings. My. . . .my name in Klaymen"
"Klaymen?!" screamed a klay being from below, uncertain of what was going on.
The stranger looked down at the yelling klay being, and then back to Klaymen.
"Me name Ed," he finally said.
"Hello, Ed," Klaymen replied, smiling.
Suddenly Ed slammed his window shut and before Klaymen realized it, Ed ran out his front door, right over to Klaymen and hugged him.
"Friend?" Ed whimpered?
Klaymen nodded. "Perhaps, we should tell Hoborg about you, yes?"
"Hoborg? Who Hoborg?"
"Hoborg, creator and king of all this. . ." Klaymen stretched out his arm, and pointed to the klay world below, and around them.
"Hoborg like Ed?"
Klaymen nodded, "He will."
Hoborg was pacing about in his throne room, when he heard a suddle knock at the door.
Come in, come in!"
The door opened. First, Klaymen walked in.
"Oh, hello Klaymen! And how might you be today?"
"Great!" Klaymen replied to the Neverhood king. A head, shyly, peaked into the throne room from behind the door.
"I. . ." Klaymen looked at the door, then back to Hoborg, "I found someone new today."
"Someone new?" Hoborg looked puzzled.
Klaymen nodded, "Yeah!" Then, Klaymen grabbed Ed's arm and pulled him into
the room. Hoborg looked and the new person. Ed smiled nervously and fidgeting he said, "Hi," looking at the ground.
"Hello, answered Hoborg, "and what is your name?"
"Ed."
"Ed? Hmm. . ." Hoborg glanced at Ed. He noticed the hoop head, and knew at once where Ed had come from. Hoborg then lifted his crown to scratch his head. Replacing the crown, he spoke, "Your are welcome to live here as long as you like, Ed. Make yourself at home, and if you have any questions, you need not
hesitate to ask."
Ed looked up at Hoborg and smiled.
"Tanks, Hoborg! Ed grateful!"
Hoborg nodded happily, "Welcome. Now, go and explore you new home, if you would like."
"Okay!" Ed nodded wildly, grinning. "Bye bye!"
Ed left the throne room to go look about the Neverhood. Klaymen watched Ed leave, then looked back to Hoborg.
"He. . . .Ottoborg. . . .Hall of Records. . .son?" Klaymen stuttered in confusion.
Hoborg simply nodded, "Yep. . ."
Ed strolled through the different areas of the Neverhood. And each time he passed a klay being he would waves and say, "Hello! Me Ed!"
Ed chased a few Fwasheep, learned how to work a klaywall car and ate apples. He found the Neverhood to be a very enjoyable place to live.
While walking up the stairs after visiting the Radio Room, Ed heard someone singing a familiar song. Ed looked around curiously, but saw no one. He shrugged and continued up the steps. After examining the canon, Ed changed the stairway into a bridge, and crossed to the other side.
Later he found his way into the Hall of Records. Feeling energetic, Ed raced down the hall. Echoes of stomping feet could be heard outside the hall. All at once, he stopped running. A drawing on the wall of his dad caught his eye.
"Ottoborg?" Ed said, to no one special. Ed then backed up and started reading a little.
Ed skimed over the stories of his six brothers. The more he read on, the more worried he became that he could likely be the last of Ottoborg's sons. But wait! One story did end with one other brother still living.
"Ed's chunk just spun in place. . ." Ed read out loud, completeing the story of Ottoborg.
Ed wondered out of the Hall of Records thinking about the tales he had just read about his brothers. Then he suddenly heard the singing again. Ed raised his head and looked around madly.
"Who dere?!" Ed hollered.
Ed paced around the area in front of the nursery for a while looking for the person singing. Ed started humming the tune, then hurried down the cave, leading to the bridge when. . . .
"Ow!"
Ed had accidentally ran into someone. Not being able to see very well, because of the darkness in the cave pass, Ed helped pull the person to his feet.
"Ed sorry."
"Dats okay, Ed. . . .Ed? Who Ed?" The being walked out of the cave passage into the light, and Ed followed.
"Mebbe you new, yes? Me Willie. . .Willie Trombone," said the stranger, just before turning around to get a first real glance of Ed.
"You hoop-head!" Willie said, in surprise.
"Hoborg no really make hoop-heads. . .who you be from?"
"Ottoborg," Ed answered.
"Brother Ed!" Willie Trombone rushed over to Ed and hugged him.
"Willie happy to see he still have brother! Yeesss!" Ed hugged back.
"Me happy too!"
Willie finally let go of Ed, smiling, "Welcome home little brother."
