The Story
| On one Mid-Autumn Festival
night, "Five Oldsters of Wan's" intrude into Ha's residence; they rape,
kill and rob. The little Ha Suet-Yee (not yet played by KW) is hiding at
a corner and sees the whole incident. He then becomes eccentric and swears
to take revenge.
After Ha (now played by KW)
grows up, he meets someone who passes him the Golden Snake Secret Book
and Golden Snake Swordmanship. He then decides to get the Golden Snake
Sabre and Golden Snake Awl from the Cave of Spiritual Snake. One must be
naked and put sulfur all over the body before going in there. Ho Hung-Yerk
(played by Kwan Po-Wai) who will become the master soon falls for Ha at
first sight. Ha then uses his charm towards Ho to help him to go into the
cave. He makes love to her in order to get the two precious weapons and
runs away after he gets them.
Ha never forgets about his
plan of revenge. But he first brings Yuan Tsing-Chi, the son of his benefactor
to a Kung Fu master before he starts his revenge.
Ha kills members of Wan's
family on every Mid-Autumn Festival with the nickname "Golden Snake Gentleman".
One year, he even gets into Wan's house to kill. However, he is injured
by "Five Oldsters of Wan's" and has to capture Wan Yee (played by Melissa
Ng) in order to runaway successfully. Wan Yee helps to heal his wounds
on the road because she always dislikes the behavior of "Five Oldsters"
and she finds Ha a man with characters. The two gradually fall in love
and Wan Yee gets pregnant. She asks him to retreat to a secluded place
and he agrees. Unfortunately "Five Oldsters" find them, she tells them
what has happened and "Five Oldsters" pretend to become friends with Ha
and let the two get married. On the wedding day, "Five Oldsters" damage
the tendons at Ha's hands. At this time, Ho suddenly appears and saves
Ha. She forces him to marry her and breaks the tendons at his fee too.
She then brings him back to the cave and lives there as a couple.
Meanwhile, Wan Yee committed
suicide under the pressure of "Five Oldsters".
Some years later, Yuan Tsing-Chi
(played by Lam Ka-Tung) meets Ha and they have recognized each other. Yuan
then takes Ha away from Ho. Wan Ching-Ching (played by Au Tze-Yan) who
is the daughter of Wan Yee, tries to kill Ha. It is because "Five Oldsters"
has lied to her that Ha rapes and kills her mother who then gives birth
to her. Luckily Wan Sin (also played by Melissa Ng), the youngest sister
of Wan Yee shows up and tells Ching Ching the truth. The misunderstanding
between father and daughter is then solved. Wan Sin has been admiring Ha
for a long time and is willing to stay with him for the rest of her life.

The
above is mainly the part with KW but not the whole story of the series.

a brief
comment by mKWp
I
have already watched eight episodes of the series and I just love it! It
is definitely worth the wait. Ha Suet-Yee is such a perfect role for KW
and I think Crimson Sabre has become my most favorite KW series eversince
he joined TVB in 1996. Why? Just think about the type of characters that
he played in Secret Battle Of The Majesty and A Cruel Lover, then it won't
be hard to understand what I meant. He is always so stunning in playing
those good + evil characters, his gestures, his facial expressions, his
tone of voice and the emotions shown through his eyes... his pride, his
passion, his hatred, his sadness etc...... and his image in the series
is so handsome and manly. Although he didn't do most of the stunts himself
in the fighting scenes (as he doesn't know Kung-Fu in real life), he is
still able to kill (the audience, including me ^^) by just standing there
holding the sabre, with his head down a bit and his eyes looking up.....
wooooow..... he is super cool.....
So
far the song Ultimate Passion (熱 愛終極)
from his earlier released EP is only used once as the ending song for episode
#2. I just hope that it will appear more often in the rest episodes.
On
the poster of the series, there are two images of KW but only one of Lam
Ka-Dung. I think it is so ironical. During the production of the series,
most of those TVB publications just talked about Lam Ka-Dung and KW was
rarely mentioned. But now, what does that poster indicate? Well, I guess
either KW is more popular than Lam in the overseas video rental market, or KW's performance as Ha Suet-Yee is so brilliant that he has become the
most dominant character in the series. ^^

a little
update by mKWp
a
I have finished watching episode #12 and would like
to do a little update. KW appears shortly in the beginning of episode #9,
in a scene which Ho Hung-Yerk
(played by Kwan Po-Wai) tries to force him to marry her. He firmly refuses
her and claims that Wan Yee (played by Melissa Ng) is the only woman he
has ever loved. In Ho's great anger, she wants to kill him so he will not
be able to see Wan Yee again (actually by that time, Wan Yee is already
dead but both of them don't know yet). The last shot of the scene is a
big close up of KW, who already falls to the ground, with his eyes
closed to welcome the sword of Ho with a grin, showing no regret and not
afraid of dying.... cool! After that scene, the story starts to concentrate
on Yuan Tsing-Chi (played by Lam Ka-Dung). And then KW only appears in
the scenes of memories, one in episode # 11 and one in episode #12. Although
each scene just last for a few seconds, his appearance immediately brightens
up the TV screen, and that is simply how his charisma works. ^^
The
series will come in total 17 tapes so it should have 35 episodes.

a little
update by mKWp
KW
finally reappears in episode #19. Yuan Tsing-Chi accidentally falls into
a cave and finds Ha Suet Yee still alive. Ha is now not even able to stand
on his feet because Ho Hung-Yerk cut the bones of his knees, and she has
kept him as her prisoner for 16 years, during which she continues to ask
him to marry her. In episode #20, Ha meets with his daughter Ching Ching
(played by Au Chi-Yan) who wants to kill him because she thinks that he
has raped and killed her mother. Ha asks Yuan to go back to the home of
Wan with him to find out what has actually happened to Wan Yee.....
KW
brings life to the series again. I found the scene which Ha and Yuan meet
each other very touching. Ha cannot recognize Yuan at first because he
only remembers him as a kid. So, Yuan has to recall some incidents that
they went through together to prove that he is the kid 16 years ago. KW
doesn't talk too much in this scene but his face and eyes simply radiate
the acting energy he needs for his part. Personally I like that kind of
father/son relationship (Yuan calls Ha as "Uncle Ha") between the two,
which originally does not exist in the novel. It has made Ha Suet Yee a
more human and loving character.
The
song "Ultimate Passion" is used as the ending song again for episode #
19, but only for the second time in the 20 episodes I have watched so far!
Why can't they just use it more often?

a little
update by mKWp
Yuan
has eventually rejoined the knee bones of Ha Suet Yee who can now walk
slowly. Then they go back to the home of Wan's where Ha finally finds out from
Wan Sin, the younger sister of Wan Yee (also played by Melissa), that Wan
Yee is really dead. Meanwhile, Ho Hung-Yerk is searching everywhere for
Ha and wants to get him back....
From
episode #21 to #28, KW only appears till the beginning of episode #23,
and the rest again concentrates on the storyline of Yuan Shing-Chi.
"Ultimate
Passion" is only used for the third time at the end of episode # 22, but
there is a delightful surprise at the end of episode #25 with a one-minute interview
of KW.

A
Happy Ending ~
Ha
Suet-Yee has planned a "Kiss of Death" with Ho Hung-Yerk as he realizes
that the love and hatred between them would never end unless they both
die. Ha puts poison on his lips so when Ho kisses him, she gets poisoned
too. After Ho is dead, Wan Sin reveals her ultimate love towards Ha by
suddenly kissing his lips so she can die with him. Her move touches his
heart deeply and makes him recognize his special feeling towards her. At
this critical moment, Yuan Tsing-Chi appears in time and saves both of
them from death.
So,
at the end of the series, Ha and Wan Sin do end up together and live happily
ever after. Although in the heart of Ha Suet-Yee, Wan Yee is still the
love of his life.... always and forever....
