KW
plays the character of Miao Lian-Xian (Á[½¬¥P), a
Chinese opera musician. He is extremely talented but he is full of conceit
as well. One day he comes across a rich girl Mai Qiu-Juan (³Á¬î®S)
(played by Anne Heung) and the two naturally fall in love. Later the opera
business is beginning to ebb so Miao has to go to Guangzhou in order to
make a living. Unfortunately the couple is forced to separate by Mai's
father who even gets Miao seriously beaten up. Then Miao and Mai decide
to committed suicide together, but Miao suddenly doesn't want to die and
backs out himself. After that, his life has been in straits. Luckily Huang
Shu-Zhen (¶À²Q¬Ã) (played by Florence Kwok),
the daughter of the owner of a medicated oil company, likes him and offers
him a good job, later even marries him. Miao is then running Huang's family
business which has become the most famous in Hong Kong and Malaysia, and
he also becomes a brilliant business man himself. He later has to take
a concubine (played by Hong Wah) as Huang doesn't give birth to any child.
One the other hand, the ghost of Mai comes to look for Miao after twelve
years. Huang tries to stop Mai and gets a Taoist priest to deal with her.
However, Miao is touched by the persistent love of Mai so the two get back
together again at the end. In this series, there is another major character
played by Lo Ka-Leung. He is a postman who has helped the ghost of Mai in finding Miao.

| The video tapes are
finally out, and I am so excited to see KW play a more serious role in
a modern drama again, it has been a long wait!
In the first two episodes,
he only appears in a few flash-back scenes when Anne Heung, who is already
dead for 15 years as the story begins, recalls their time together in the
past. KW shows up a bit more in episode #2 that has a scene in which he
is composing a new Cantonese Opera. He sings out the tunes and lyrics while
some people (in that scene they are the seven sisters, including Heung
of course) have to write everything down. The scene is pretty hilarious,
and the way he sings those songs are very cute too.
KW probably occupies
less than 15 minutes screen time in these 2 episodes, but the way he acts,
talks and his facial expressions simply remind me of him in his ATV series
such as Silver Tycoon, Movie Tycoon
and A Cruel Lover etc., an arrogant but passionate
guy.
Somehow he looks a bit
skinny in this series, (maybe due to the short hair style and the costumes,
especially when he is wearing those silky 2-pcs Chinese outfits), but he
is still handsome as ever, and his onscreen charisma just won't let my
eyes off him for even a second!
Last but not least,
KW has a new song that is used at the end of episode #2! (the theme song
is a duet by Lo Ka-Leung and Bondy Chiu, and Lo has another song being
used at the end of episode #1) Although only part of the song is played,
I really like it, even more than the ones in his "Without You" EP.

| KW only appears in
flash-back scenes on and off throughout the first 11 episodes, and finally
he makes his entrance into the current story line at the later half of
episode #12. Instead of wearing those Chinese 2-pcs outfits in his previous
scenes, he now wears western suits, I think he looks great!
In episode #13, KW and
Heung eventually come across each other. However, he does not recognize
her at all because he has lost his memory after an accident - he is knocked
down by the car driving Florence Kwok, who has become his wife now. He
only knows about Heung's name from an old song («È³~¬î«ë)
written by him 15 years ago basing on their love affair. Since he cannot
recall a bit of their past, now he has no love feeling towards Heung at
all. He is even scared of her after he realizes that she is a ghost.
KW plays his role different
from the previous episodes. As years pass by, his character obviously has
changed from an arrogant young man to a modest and mature businessman.
There are total 16 tapes
for this series, so there should be approximately 32 episodes.
The song that KW sings
for the series is called Affair Of Half A Life Time (¥b¥Í½t),
which has been used at the end of some episodes. Click here
for the lyrics in Chinese. |

- The conclusion -
| There are 32 episodes
on video for this series but KW only shows up a bit in the last 4 episodes.
His story line actually ends in Episode #28.
When I was watching
the series, I kept wondering what the ending would be. Is he going to die
in order to be with Heung again in another dimension? If so, then it is
not very fair to his wife. He and his wife (played by Florence Kwok) has
been a loving couple before Heung re-enters into his life, and Kwok has
gone through a lot in order to marry him. In a scene when Kwok asks Heung
to let go her husband, she says, "I was by his side through his most difficult
times in life and helped him to be on his feet again, but where were you
at that time?"
Well... I must say I
am quite happy with the ending.
KW eventually gets back
all his memories, including his love towards Anne Heung, and his passion
in writing Cantonese opera as well. He almost gets killed in a fire but
Heung saves him, makes him promise to stay alive and be well. Kwok is deeply
touched by what Heung has done to her husband, so she finally accepts Heung
as KW's first wife. Heung, with her wish being fulfilled, willingly goes
for reincarnation. KW reconciles with Kwok, the couple then leave Hong
Kong for Guangzhou where he resumes his career
in opera writing. |
