Authors note: Hello, my name is Michael Gammell/Emerald the Hedgehog. I’ve been writing fan fiction for a few years now, so I thought I should go back and re-write my Chronicles fan fiction, since it was one of the first ideas for a fic I had. I thought I should put a little background for this fic and how it came to be, so here goes.
Back in the year...umm... well, I can’t remember the year. But in this year, I went to a website called Sonic Verse Team. It was a website that hosted many different comics about Sonic. Unfortunately, some of the comics had to be downloaded to read, and the files were too large for me to download. Such was the case for one comic there, Other M.
From what I gathered by reading part of a not very in depth summary, I found out that sonic had somehow gotten in another zone and found a duck named bean. The bean took him back to that worlds base, and pretty much that’s all I found out about the comic at that time. I thought this was a good set up. I wanted to read the comic. But I couldn’t. All the “read online” issues were error page after error page for me.
So, one night, I got an idea into my head.
“Hey,” I thought, though not exactly in these words, “If I can’t read that comic, why don’t I make my own fan fiction like it!” So, I started working on my initial rough draft for Sonic: Chronicles of another dimension.
I don’t exactly remember, but it started out something like this. Sonic was running, found a hole, climbed into the hole, people in knothole were looking for sonic, bright light in hole, goes to bright light, big flash, outside, different world, meets bean, blah. Sorry for the run-on sentence, but I’m just trying to give you a basic idea of my original draft. Looking back on it now, I admit it was terrible.
Later, I had to go to Chicago with my Grandpa for two weeks. I brought what I had written with me, and tried writing more of it. I eventually stopped though and just read Water Ship Down and played Metroid: Fusion for the two weeks (I was able to score a Sonic paperback Archie special while I was there, though).
When I got back home, I was set to type what I had written. I don’t know if I ever got around to typing any of it, because I soon thought. “Hey, wait a minute, this stinks!” so, starting anew, I came up with a better opening chapter, this time involving a battle scene. I though this was a much better Idea and got to work. And I continued to write the story, for a long time. Then I got started on other side projects, like Blazing Sun, a failed Samurai Sonic fic I never finished, Yoshi Stadium Grudge Matches, which I still write, a mega man fic that never made it past chapter one, and Newcomer, my newest fic.
My writing has defiantly improved since I started way back when with Chaos Force and the original chapters of Chronicles, as evidenced by my writing in Newcomer, and I’ve been reading many good authors stories, and I believe it is now time for me to go back and re-write my first some-what ok Sonic fic. So here it is.
Sonic:
Chronicles of another Dimension 2.0
Chapter 1
“Attack at Knothole Castle.”
---
Peace.
An uncommon word for the citizens of Knothole, but one that uncommonly fit at the time. In the past, the kingdom had constantly at war with Robotnick, now called Dr. Egg man. Not that they weren’t anymore, but currently, for the last 3 months, they had not faced each other, neither making a move against the other.
Some had thought that it was the perfect time to strike. Others, like King Maximilian of the house of Acorn however, thought that it would be better to keep up guard and not make any moves until activity in Megalopolis, the new Robotroplis, was noted. But no evidence of secret scheming or projects had been seen by the numerous spies that now lay in Megalopolis, and nothing out of the ordinary was happening. Little was even seen of Egg man himself.
So, when on Autumn day, King Max declared that no one was aloud to go near Megalopolis in the time of peace, except for the spies, no one was surprised.
---
“Man, this is really lame!” Sonic said to himself as he walked around the ring well, guarding it from whoever might try to get the magical ring that came out of it daily.
“Not to mention that nobody has tried to steal a ring this past year. And if the king thinks everything's okay enough to disband the freedom fighter permanently, that why does someone have to guard this dumb ol’ well anyways?” Sonic grumbled. Sonic was bored and, for the second time in his life, feeling useless. He had almost nothing to do with Robotnick staying inside his city and all the criminals in the devil’s gulag. Pretty much, no enemies - no action - no freedom fighting. Heck, not even Zonic had shown up in a while, and Sonic was (almost) starting to wish he would.
One day, when sonic was walking around the forest, announcing to no one and everyone at the same time(and annoying them) that he wanted some action, Princess Sally got up in his face.
“Sonic, what is your problem?” She had asked him. “You’ve been walking around all day doing nothing and complaining about it.”
“It’s just that there’s nothing to do.” Sonic had replied.
“Nothing to do? There’s plenty for you to do!” She said, sounding like Sonic’s mother. “You could read a book, do something with Tails, or...” She noted sarcastically and with a smile, “You could go to school for a change.”
“Okay Sal, one, Tails is too busy helping Roter protect that force feild thingy for the castle. And second of all, I can’t read because I’m too darn un-smart because I dun go ta school.” he said, adding a hillbilly voice to his last sentence. Sally rolled her eyes.
“Then what is it that you want to do?” Sally asked.
“I wanna do something to help the kingdom that doesn’t involve politics and cleaning gutters.” Sonic replied.
“Well, normally I would suggest becoming a spy, but I don’t think you would be able to contain yourself. But I know something you could do..” Sally said.
“What?” Sonic asked.
“Are you sure you want to help the kingdom?” She asked.
“Yes already!” He replied, anxious to receive his assignment, shaking with anticipation.
“Okay then, you can guard the ring well.” She replied coolly. “I’ll inform Daddy that you will be taking Antoine’s place tonight.” Sonic tried to talk, stunned as he was, but words wouldn’t come of his mouth. Admitting defeat, he trudged over the ring well, were he relieved Antoine, who was overjoyed. Apparently he had been jumping at the sound of every broken twig, despite that fact that it was morning.
And that’s were Sonic was now. Milling around the ring well, even more board than before. As sonic thought about it he said aloud. “I should just learn to keep my big mouth shut.”
“Why do I have to guard you anyways, well? It’s not like anyone’s tried to steal a ring from you in like forever.” Sonic talked to the well as if it were a person. “Having to guard you is like guarding dental floss. It’s pointless!. As far as I know Egg man doesn’t even know about you.” Sonic started to say something again, but was cut off by a faint rumbling. Then the earth started to shake, ever so slightly, vibrating under his red and white striped sneakers. Sonic strained his ears and heard a humming noise that was being underpowered by the quake. Sonic recognized it as the sound a Zone portal would make, only he could tell, despite the tremor, that it was much deeper than any portal he had seen.
Sonic heard another noise. This one a laser blast. Sonic looked up and caught sight of the trail end of a fluorescent light streaking towards the forest city. “What in Mobius?” he yelled as he saw an explosion eradicate a small section of the town. Sonic could here the screaming , far away from the city as he was.
“Forget this!” Sonic said as he revved up his legs. “Time for some city saving action!” and he sped off into the city. As soon as he got there he knew what was wrong. Out from the foliage, in the direction the humming was coming from, louder now, were the strangest robots Sonic had ever seen. They looked like Swat Bots, only the were metallic black instead of the dull coal colors Sonic had seen on the old Robotnick bots. The new Swat-bots were also sleeker, their right arm was a blaster, their left had a knife on the top of the wrist, and some had jetpacks on which they used to patrol the city from the air, shooting anything and anyone they saw.
“Time to do it to it!” Sonic said. He curled into a ball and slammed into the nearest of the robots, sending it down with a crash. The battle was on.
---
“Roter, he could really use that force feild now!” King Max shouted as he looked out of the window and saw what was happening outside.
“I’m working on it!” Roter said as he hurriedly moved lever and pushed buttons on a large console. In a moment of desperation he smacked it hard on the side. Suddenly, a clear blue bubble shield was projected over Knothole castle. It had specially been built to keep out anything other than Mobians, although robians could still get in because they had a special code built inside of them that made them different than regular drone robots, so the force feild was made to let them in. The shield had been in production for a long time, but they hadn't gotten much done before the three month peace, in which time it was completed. There were still bugs though, and they were all afraid it might succumb to extreme force.
Princess Sally came bursting through the door. “Where the heck did they come from?” she shouted as she ran up to the King.
“I’ve sent out all the palace guards and all our other fighters. We just have to hope we can beat them back.” King max said, ignoring her question.
“But where did they come from? I thought we had all these spies out there watching Megalopolis? Why didn’t they inform us about this?” Sally asked.
“We’ve called them, they say nothing is even happening there.” he replied.
“Then were are they coming from?!” she asked again.
“I don’t know!” the King said as he slammed his fist down on a table. “Darn! I thought we were prepared for something like this!”
“With all due respect, how? They seem to have appeared out of nowhere.” Sally said, trying to calm down here father.
“Not exactly nowhere, princess.” Geoffrey St. John said as he too burst through the door. He walked up to the king. “Your majesty, the ‘bots seem to be coming out o’ a portal in the thick of the woods. Me’n the Secret service are gonna go out there and try to get rid o it somehow. It’ll be hard though, it’s guarded by these two bigga bots. They look like the otha’ ones but they’s got four arms, two o’ them, the top ones, got big rectangular blasters. The otha’ ones ‘ave big claws.”
“Proceed, but be careful!” the King said as he put his hand on Geoffrey's shoulder. Geoffrey saluted, then charged through the door and started to exit the castle.
“Sally,” King Max said after Geoffrey had left. “ Have Nicole scan the battle feild to determine our chances of winning if Geoffrey and his crew can’t complete their job.” Sally nodded. She walked over to the window, holding the small personal computer out to scan the area. As she did she saw Sonic fighting off five robots who were trying to grab him. She sincerely wished he had came with her to the castle when she had asked him when the robots came. Suddenly Nicole beeped and said “Analysis complete.” she watched sonic for another second, then tore her gave of him and ran back to the king.
“Nicole, display data.” Sally asked, her voice shaking.
“Chances of victory as it now stands is 12%” Nicole said, showing no emotion. King Max slowly sat down in his chair, stunned.
“Roter?” the King said. Roter looked at him and nodded. “Ready the speaker phone. We’re calling back all troops.”
---
Meanwhile, Sonic was still on the battle ground. At one point five robots ganged up on him from all sides. He was able to escape from their grasp by spin-dashing up into the air so that when they robots reached for him they smashed into each other instead. Sonic looked to his left and saw Bunnie Rabbot holding her own against a Swat.
“Hey Bunnie?” Sonic shouted. “How ya holding up?”
“Ah’m fine fo’ now, Suga hog, but I can’t keep this up fo’eva.” Bunnie said after she had punched a gaping hole in the robot using her robot arm. Suddenly the Kings Voice, loud, but shaken, exploded over the castle loud speaker.
“Citizens of Knothole! Retreat! Come back to Knothole Castle immediately! Repeat! Immediately!” he shouted.
“You heard the King, Suga, lets fall back.” Bunnie called as she fired up the jets on her robotic legs fired up.
“In a minute!” Sonic said over his shoulder. Bunnie jetted away. Sonic looked back to make sure she got away safely. That was his mistake. The robot he had been facing knocked him backwards with a hard punch from the blaster arm. Suddenly, another robot grabbed him from behind. He held him with his right arm around his waist and his left hand on his chest. Sonic looked at the hand and noticed the knife on the wrist move and curve so that it was just touching Sonic's neck.
“Don’t move,” the robot said, his metallic voice not covering his malice. “Or I puncture your neck.” Sonic gulped. Trying to think of something, anything he could do. But he was out of ideas. The robot fired up his jetpack and flew off into the woods. In a small clearing, Sonic saw the biggest zone portal he had ever seen. It was blue and circular, yet it was also flat, two-dimensional. It was guarded by two large Swat-bots with four arms. Sonic noticed with a sick feeling in his stomach that Geoffrey's limp form was in the arms of one of the robots, with many more bodies near their feet. As Sonic neared closer to the portal, he thought.
“Well, I wanted action. I guess I got my wish...”
