When it comes to simpletons you cannot go past Lance. He even speaks like one. But Lance, despite his stupidness is a thinker. Him and his mate Martin Dibble are bad for each other but are the only ones who will stand each other.
Lance is a kind hearted person, who is who eight year old Sally always plays with. Lance and Sally swap comics, watch t.v together, and Sally hangs out in Sally's caravan. Everyone use to treat Sally like a baby, except Lance who used to treat her as his mental equal, which perhaps she was.

When Lance won half a million dollars in the lottery his stupidity cost him a lot of it.
First he bought a car for 100,000 which Martin got stolen. When Martin said he would leave to get the money back to him, Lance put 100,000 in cash, on Martin's bench, hoping he would pay him back with this money, ask no question about it, and then stay.
Lance's mum somehow got hold of the money, and then invested it in Macklins company.
An example of Lance's stupidity was the contract of agreements he wanted Brett Macklin to sign. Instead of a yearly return on his investment, he wanted chairs by the pool, and first chance at "chatting up classy chicks". He then lost 50,000 to Gary Samuels' con job where he gave him 50 grand without a receit.

Lance was then fed up with everyone treating him as a mate because they want money, not because of him, so he gave the rest away to charity. After which he had left 8 dollars, the grand total of his winnings.

In Lance's mobile home he had a thong collection, mounted to the wall, and a hubcap collection. Lance is also kind, which was showed when, even though he felt his life was being ruined by his mum living with him, he didn't have the heart to tell her to leave, also when he read letters from little children whose parents didn't have any money for christmas presents, he started crying and was so moved he wrote a song called "Santa never stops in Summer Bay". It was an unlikely hit which earnt Lance more money, which what he didn't want.

When Lance realized people like Alison were using him for his money he went on a short lived "no more mister nice guy" spree and insulted Celia, Don and others, but that didn't last long and before long he was good  old simple Lance Smart.

The last we heard on Lance was at Maz and Don's wedding, when a telegraph from Lance was read out. He is now a sargeant in the army, and lives in Queensland. He seems to be rich still ,so his investment with the Sands Resourt must have paid off.
