TV Guide: It's the 100th episode of Touched by an Angel. Did you ever think it would last this long?
Roma Downey: Many magazines, and God knows yours was one of them, wrote that "by the time you read this, they will be gone." And we were. We were put on hiatus early, which, of course, means the kiss of death. We packed up and went home. It is not just that
it is the 100th, but it's the 100th and we're in the top 10. To have reached this juncture is very satisfying.
TVG: It has been a very good year for you professionally. You were nominated for an Emmy.
RD: I felt especially proud of that nomination because I came through a really tough year. And to be able to step up to the plate professionally and still turn in the work and the performances-for that to be acknowledged by the Emmy group was very gratifying.
TVG: I can't help noticing how much weight you've lost. I know thin is the rage in Hollywood, but what about this?
RD: It's stress. I've had to go through so much publicly [with my divorce]. And I am such a private person. The tabloids turned up at the house, parked at the gate. There was money being offered to the crew. I am so proud of these guys. They really just stood firm.
TVG: Now you're a single mom.
RD: From Monday to Friday I am a TV star, and on weekends
I am a mom.…It's hard work. And my social life
is nonexistent.
TVG: You're not dating?
RD: Where would I meet anybody?
TVG: How about on the set? There have been reports that you're dating John Dye.
RD: [laughing] It's not true. But we're getting a lot of mileage out of it on the set. They tease us terribly when we are talking together. Like, I heard that he got me a ring, so I asked him, "Where's the ring?" And we have been getting mail from fans approving of our "union."
